Re-waterproofing gear - DryRob - 10-11-11 Looks like my jacket is beginning to absorb more water than it repells, has anyone had any joy with this stuff: http://www.nikwax.com/en-gb/products/productdetail.php?productid=16 or should I give in and get a new jacket? Re: Re-waterproofing gear - daveph - 11-11-11 I've used the wash-in version to revive my breathable waterproof kit in the past. It seems to do a decent job. Worth a try. http://www.nikwax.com/en-gb/products/productdetail.php?productid=3 Dave Re: Re-waterproofing gear - Looney tune - 11-11-11 Nikwax is good stuff. If your gear is goretex give it a wash then tumble dry it, this will 'sort out' the goretex fibres. Failing that, you may want to change your name !!!! Re: Re-waterproofing gear - bigralphie - 11-11-11 Yep good stuff but dont be a bit git like me and try to wash to much stuff at once in it , as it wont work as well Re: Re-waterproofing gear - Captain Haddock - 11-11-11 Some of the breathable fabrics are better washed with soap flakes instead of detergent, I think detergents tend to mess up the waterproofing. Re: Re-waterproofing gear - dickturpin - 11-11-11 Oh great...a clothes washing thread....lets have an ironing one next! ![]() Re: Re-waterproofing gear - DryRob - 13-11-11 http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php/topic,863.0.html ![]() Re: Re-waterproofing gear - Looney tune - 13-11-11 :thumbup Re: Re-waterproofing gear - moffmeister - 15-11-11 Drybob I've used the Nikwax washin stuff seemed to work - dry bollocks was the result Re: Re-waterproofing gear - Just Anne - 15-11-11 The stuff I used, which I can't now remember the name of, you had to iron it to finish the sealing process.....so yes I guess this counts as an ironing thread afterall :b Anne Re: Re-waterproofing gear - dolau - 17-11-11 Had some spray on stuff I brought in an outdoors hiking place. washed my Weisse jacket, sprayed it all over until the can was finished and didnt work and leaked like a seive so brought the £40 fluorescent jacket from Aldi- brilliant! Re: Re-waterproofing gear - Fergwad - 17-11-11 Detergents will break down the durable Water repellent (dwr) coating so don't wash with normal washing powder. Nikwax tech wash is the right stuff to clean it with and then Nikwax tx direct puts on a new dwr coating to get the beading of water on the surface back. Saying all that I used a bottle of scotch guard on my jacket last time it lost its beading effect - which seems to have lasted loads longer, but I don't think it's very breathable!! The other make that's worth a try is grangers. See here: http://www.grangers.co.uk/ or here: http://www.nikwax.com/en-gb/index.php for info. Any of the aforementioned should revive your waterproof kit. Hope you remain dry, Rob :-) |
