Well done for getting out, and Happy New Year Mr.Red.  I’m still battling with project bathroom, and haven’t been able to get out since early December. Too old for this diy lark, especially as everything so far has been problematic. Would much rather be riding my bike.
Some nice pics you’ve posted, especially the proper rods :thumbup

Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - red98 - 02-01-23

Hi Robbo...In the same boat. Too much DIY..living room,Hall,Landing,Bathroom and then a new kitchen. On top of that the roof needs replacing and we need new windows. need to get these done before i retire  :thumbup ..Important to get out when we can. New years day ride was the first ride since November loved every mile of it, The meet was good not only for the cars but also the people. Lots of chatting  :rolleyes

Have to get the LOFO`s back together again  Wink

Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - red98 - 15-01-23

Took advantage of the un-seasonal weather and went on a 82 mile breakfast run on the mighty thou to the "shack cafe" on the A30 at Hook.bit run down but its clean and the foods good. A good ride especially at this time of year  :thumbup

Nice day to be out Mr.Red. The Shack must be one of the most difficult cafes to ride past, as the ever present aroma of bacon being cooked, is very hard to dismiss. Mighty thou’s :thumbup  looking good.

Your thoughts MR ROBBO. looking at a 03 VFR 800 on Saturday. low mileage at 8000. £3000....ever riden one ? good replacement for the mighty thou ?

VFR800 pre vtec are a nice machine but expect it to feel a little asthmatic compared with the thou. Low mileage so likely not had the exhaust sorted (rotting collector boxes although I have a feeling they may have changed to stainless on later ones). Also reg / rec charging issues are common. More weight on the wrists than with a Fazer for sure.

Santa Claus dropped off a late present today. I'm not a great photographer but they're anodized, not painted and look very nice.

Don’t have any personal experience of viffers. Pals have had them, sound good, smooth but a bit unexciting, has always been the general consensus. One point to possibly consider is ULEZ compliancy. The mighty thou does comply providing you get a CoC from Yamaha. Wouldn’t know about the Honda though.

Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - red98 - 24-01-23

Looked at the VFR on Saturday...Trebus and Robbo thanks for your replies. both spot on. At 8000 miles i was expecting an as new bike with only summer use.No...lots of pitting on the swing arm and heel plates. downpipes needed a bit of attention and guessing the collector box the same. ASs Trebus mentioned bars are lower and further away putting more weight on your wrists. Did feel reasonbly comfortable though but dont think i could do big mileage days on it though. nice Honda paniers on it bit wide but great for touring...Bit undecided. Wont match the mighty thou in a lot of ways.Think i`ll go and have another look.

Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - Trebus - 25-01-23

I’ve had a few VFRs, probably preferred the later 750 over the 800 but not much in it. The bars can be sorted, I had small risers which helped but helibars and LSL straight var conversions were also available https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/195540016309?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=tWTqQr6SSOO&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=6r2EIYEFTdS&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

They’re definitely a well put together bike, mileage isn’t really a problem for them so I’d go for the best cosmetic condition with fairings etc. Suspension is better as standard than a thou so no huge money to spend there assuming shock is OK. Brakes are a bit more complicated to service with the linked system but no major drama. Just remembered, some had issues with the clocks internal PCB due to corrosion. Normally fixable with a  wire track and some lacquer.

Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - robbo - 25-01-23

Mr.Red, you have a real dilemma in trying to choose a Fazer replacement that will tick all the boxes that the Yamaha does, without starting to spend serious money.  A Tracer 900GT no doubt comes close but is in a different price point. If it was me, I’d look out for another thou with low mileage. Admittedly it might be a bit expensive for a 17+ year old bike, as they are desirable, but you’d know exactly what you’re getting, and have a world of experience and knowledge of them.
Personally I’ll have to start thinking of something lighter, as dread it going over with all my camping gear, when pushing it about. When my diy project is finished I’ll start looking, maybe something like a T7 Tenere, but have never ridden one.

Hi Trebus. Thanks for the feedback especially the link to the bar risers that was my bigest gripe with the bike. Bike is for sale at a local dealer so probably less room for a bit of haggling.to pay for the risers. Not been back yet but maybe this saturday.

Morning Mr Robbo...Been looking for a while and indeed its hard to match let alone improve on the FAZER THOU. Not sure if i will sell the thou when the new bike comes along so not looking for another. I thought the VFR would be a good solution as iam looking for something that fits between the thou and my 600. Looked at the FZ8 but just not for me and probably no better than my Boxeye 600...Thou`s going extreamly well at the moment running super smooth and fitting new tyres late last year has inproved it further so iam in no rush but as the season gets closer i can see prices rising so need to get a wriggle on if iam to get a bargain...
Sat here typing this in my eastly facing front room i can see blue sky and sun...time to stop typing and start riding  Smile

Excellent Mr.Red. Was out for a whizz today on the Triumph. Fazers still hibernating, no doubt until April. Smile

Took a ride too" Suunday biker afternoon at Amici coffee" at Sandy Bedfordshire. A cup of tea and a wander round the car park. 120 miles for the day all in bright sunshine.
