Moved it over 3 feet and managed to stall it Big Grin it's coming out for a run tomorrow after being hidden away all week.

No wind up. Honest.

Luke: Very tidy! However, I'm going for something rather more... industrial!!  :lol

2 wheels, max width, max length, steel body and a gas strut supported lid, being built by me with (a lot) of help from a friend.  Smile

Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - nick crisp - 10-08-13

2 wheels, steel body - pulled by 33hp? What exactly is it you need to put in a trailer? (if it's not a personal question of course). Have you really thought this thing through? I have moments of confusion in my life, but this....

Seen me heading for home with panniers?!? The bluddy bags are wider than my bars, and make it handle like a tractor!!

I have thought it through, the max speed I can do is 60mph in the UK, and the same in Europe. So the 33 brake will be more than sufficient. Will lighten the load on the rear wheel too.

Genuine question: Will the Longest/Widest (heaviest?) Trailer available to you ride any less like a tractor? I genuinely dont know - no experience of riding with a trailer in tow.

Possibly, but it'll be more comfy for me!! My reasons:

- The trailer can carry more than my panniers
- Will be waterproof (my panniers aren't)
- The bike will lean better round corners
- There will be less load on the rear wheel ( the mounting bracket for the tow bar will be fitted to the pillion peg mounts, and the trailer load will be 40% rear, 60& front over the trailer axle)

Acceleration will be down (no surprise), but cruising down the motorway should be that little bit nicer. And as I'll be doing 1,000 miles on motorways
on my way home via Holland - that's a good thing. AND it'll help me move out of Uni in 2 years' time.

A future Foccer (FB friend from a group) has a gold Fazer, and tows behind it without drama. And the friend helping me build mine tows a max size trailer... behind a twin cylinder 125!!  :eek And he says he hardle notices it, even when very well loaded.

I think ahead, I do.  :lol :lol

Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - mickvp - 10-08-13

well there you go - learn something new everyday Smile

although, if your mounting to the pillion peg, wont that mean the trailer affects the rear suspension on the bike? if you mounted it to the swingarmlike luke it would be "lighter" as it is unsprung weight?

I look forward to seeing it anyway, sounds like an interesting build (I asume you will have some sort of "swivel" mounting so you can still lean over with it fitted?)

Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - nick crisp - 10-08-13

"The bike will lean better round corners" - are you sure?
Ok, I see it for a one-off trip where you'll be using mostly motorways, but I definitely don't see it improving handling. Plus, you said about your panniers being wider than your bars, yet you're going for a 2 wheel design, "max width"?
Also think Mickvp may be right about where you mount it from, although I also wonder about the strain on the rear wheel spindle with Luke's example. Well, it's all been done before and I guess you'll have researched it thoroughly? I can't say I know a damn thing about it really.

To avoid thread rape, may the trailer discussion continue here!  :lol

Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - Anquetil - 11-08-13

Yesterday I bought a Shoei Qwest helmet to replace my old FM. I rode to the shop wearing the FM and wore the Qwest on the way home. First impression was that it was very noisy. This afternoon I went out on the Fazer for 25 minutes wearing the Qwest,( and earplugs ), and did various speeds, up to 70 mph, very noisy indeed. I came home and immediately did the same thing with the old FM. I am really pissed off as the FM is much quieter.
I then did the same rides on my XJ 600 with the same results.
I had read some negative comments regarding noise on some sites but had also read some glowing tributes, so unfortunately I bought one. I don't know if I can stand the'jet engine' noise on longer rides,so as I am unemployed I will have to carry on with the old helmet. What a bastard ! £270 down the drain.

Met up with Slimwilly and friend at Llandovery, good breakfast and then ride up to Llandrindod Wells following Slim's dodgy cornering lines :lol

Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - nick crisp - 11-08-13

After taking leave of Slim, went for a blat through the Elan Valley, to practice sheep dodging! A very satisfying day, 310 miles clocked up.
