Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - robbo - 10-03-21 Reinstalled the shock and made a new bracket for the remote preload. Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - Stormbringer - 11-03-21 A lot has happened in the last year. I have totally rebuilt the Fazer 8.I fitted a new clutch ,new exhaust studs ,new Yamaha bodywork (Blue) anda Baglux blue tank cover ,Yamaha soft paniers, Yamaha Centre stand kit ,Ram mount for Garmin Zumo, Michelin tyres ,Yamaha chain and sprockets, uprated headlight bulbs , done the valve clearances (needed 12 shims) overhauled the brakes including new fluid and pads .Fitted a new Black front Mud guard and Pyramid fender extender, lots of othger minor jobs . Today I rode it to work (School). [Edited to stop the text appearing in a tiny font! GrahamM - Moderator] Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - robbo - 12-03-21 Booked my Fazer a holiday today. It’s taking me to Aragon for MotoGP in September, travel/COVID restrictions permitting. Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - fazerscotty - 13-03-21 Fitted new Throttle cables. Along with the new Clutch cable and the ultrasonically cleaned carbs, oil & filter change. Carbs going back together this week, ready to be fitted next weekend. Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - robbo - 14-03-21 Are you changing the throttle cables just as a precaution, or have you had a problem with them. One had started to fray, so, both are being changed. Not sure of the history of the cables - I've had the bike 7 years and 40,000 miles, so to be on the safe side.......... The last thing I want is to be stuck somewhere waiting for recovery, when I could be riding. ![]() Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - robbo - 14-03-21 Getting stuck, abroad is a big worry. Mine are coming up for 38k, and might do them for peace of mind, although don't relish all the work necessary to gain access. I suppose it's impossible to change them without removing the carbs?. Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - fazerscotty - 15-03-21 So, last night, started to put the carbs back together. All was going well until I went to put the top and bottom through bolts in. One was shorter than the other! I took a look in carb #4, to see the remaining bit of snapped off bolt seized. Simple fix - drill out the snapped bolt (carefully), drill out the good thread in the lower bolt hole with a clearance drill and fit some M6 threaded rod with dome nuts on. I have placed some thin wall silicone tubing over the threaded portion which is in the carbs and spacers - this will reduce or eliminate any resonance (if there is any) caused by an unsupported rod in an enclosed tube. These long bolts are no longer available, either from Fowlers or CMSNL in Holland. My fix came to £3.50 (ish!). Next job, at the weekend, will be to start polishing the footrest hangers and heel guards - nearside first. Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - robbo - 15-03-21 Very inventive, well done :thumbup . Collected my powder coating up today. They made a good job of the pegs, hangers and gearlever, brake lever. Got them back together and on the bike this afternoon. However the clutch cover didn't get done as they were unable to match the colour well enough. Will try an alternative firm tomorrow. Anyone in the Sussex/Surrey area that needs any bike related powder coating, bear Kirdford Shot Blasting in mind. Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - Gaz66 - 15-03-21 Fazer 1000's been stood 4yrs :'( life & lack of funds to complete the renovation, dug out the Exup valve & associated parts, Conical spring has been robbed by the "Spring Fairies" FFS Anyone have any pics with dimensions of said spring? I may have summat knocking about I can mod to fit. Thanks guys :thumbup Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - Gaz66 - 15-03-21 ![]() Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - b1k3rdude - 15-03-21 (15-03-21, 09:45 PM)Gaz66 link Wrote: Anyone have any pics with dimensions of said spring? Fairly common that on a lot of carb bikes. They mostly have never been removed since the day they were assembled and crab bikes are getting on now. Another simple fix is to cut two stainless (SS) rods to correct length, thread each end and like you use domed SS nuts with a dab of nut lock. No issues with them coming undone or vibrating, cost little more but won't corrode, done it that way a good few times. Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - agricola - 17-03-21 Nipped out on the bike to renew my licence, 3 miles there, 3 back. All went smoothly at the local post office. When i eventually found it. I pulled up in front of the building, got off the bike and walked towards the door, big sign on it belonging to an accountancy firm. Embarrassing. Had to ask a passer by where the post office had moved too. Turns it it moved 15 years ago, she looked puzzled cos its where its always been for her. Better ride than the one yesterday to the filling station and back (the very long way around), first ride out since the mot several weeks ago, co-ordination between throttle/clutch/ gearbox out of timing, very rusty riding. Need to get out more Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - b1k3rdude - 17-03-21 Nice. Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - robbo - 26-03-21 Had a visit from the mobile tyre fitting guy, so with a new rear Metzeler fitted, I should hopefully be set for another year of fun and frolics. Still waiting for the clutch cover to come back from powder coat, so haven't been able to progress much since installing the black finished footpegs, other than a general brake clean and rubber grease. Can't say I'm looking forward to pressing in the new clutch rod bearing though. Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - Grahamm - 31-03-21 Gave it a wash and brush-up (lots of dust, cobwebs and cats' paw prints on it from sitting in the shed for a few months). Then gave it a check over for the MOT tomorrow (well, it was due last June 25th, so I figured it was about time... ![]() |
