[/quote]I would of done the same, I have access to a slight but short hill in the street outside Sharp hall but the risk is far too great of the bump start not working and my looking a right twat pushing the dead lump back up the hill. Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - Don71uk - 23-02-21 Gen 1, Passed MOT, only 1400 miles since last year. Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - Streetbudgie - 23-02-21 I ride all year (no choice as I can't afford the car parking at work) so apart from a few days with packed snow on the local roads, I have ridden through all the salt and crap. Every Monday I've had to force it off the centre stand and crack the front brake off before I can go anywhere, so today I had a day off and decided to wash it, then found I had a loose bolt and spent about 2 hours trying to work out how to get it back in, so I posted on here and got an answer in 10 minutes and had it fixed in another 15 minutes. Ordinarily I'd be off to the pub for a celebratory pint but that's not gonna happen so I'll settle for a curry tonight! Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - coffee - 25-02-21 I'm the complete opposite,a proper fair weather rider :lol just ordered oil and filter for the start of "my" season,I don't do that many miles, normally 1000 a year but they reckon the oil contaminates using it like that then laying it up for 5/6 mths so I change it and give the oil to any of the local young bods to use because it can't be that bad and them boys are out in all weathers day and night just like we used to :thumbup Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - fazerscotty - 25-02-21 Touched up the frame rails on each side. Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - robbo - 25-02-21 Nice job :thumbup Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - Dudeofrude - 25-02-21 Well never seems to be good news for me and my Fz1 thses days ? thought seeing as the weather is good I'd finally go out for the first ride of the year. Started this time so got all geared up and out I went. While riding I started to notice another noise coming from the engine (similar to the one I had just sorted out) but wasn't sure if I was just hearing things as I hadn't been on it for a while. Anyway it was causing concern in the back of my mind so I decided to come back after only 20 miles.... well let's just say I must have either a 6th sense or a guardian angel because as I pulled up outside my house my wife asked whats leaking out on my bike. To my shock and horror there is shit loads of oil on the floor, all down the lower left side on the engine and up the side of the rear tyre!! Upon closer inspection I see that 3 bolts are missing from the oil pump cover and the 4th is halfway out! What's really confusing is the fact that I have never undone that in my life (I didn't even know what cover it was until I googled it) so my only other theory is that when I took it into the garage to find out what the noise problem was, they must of removed that cover and either not torqued it properly or maybe even missed a couple of bolts?!? Now I trust my mech whole heartily and he is one of the best in the area (he even does dyno work for Guy Martin) so I'm positive it isn't down to poor mechanics but I can't think of any other way it would have come loose for no reason? I've spoke to him and he says he doesn't think that cover was removed but he isn't 100%. There are also 2 other mechanics that work there so could possibly have even been one of those ?♂️ Then to add insult to injury I tried to start it (to get it up the drive into the garage, didn't even think about the oil leak ?) and the fucking battery is dead again..... so there is also a problem with the charging system again ?? Im having it collected later so the garage can have a look at it. I'll have to speak to the mechanic a bit more to decide what's going to happen with regards to the cover/leak Either way I'm happy to have made it home without incident Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - coffee - 25-02-21 'kin hell!! there's no way I'd have took it back to that garage,it's so obvious someone there has made a balls up,whether it's Guy Martins mech or Fred Bloggs. That could have been bad news in the wrong situation and if you'd had an accident and had to be taken to hospital the filth would have been all over the bike and put it down to your neglect ! I'd make some excuse and get it back you'll be wondering everytime you go out on it if they've done the jobs right! :eek Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - Dudeofrude - 25-02-21 (25-02-21, 04:33 PM)coffee link Wrote: 'kin hell!! there's no way I'd have took it back to that garage,it's so obvious someone there has made a balls up,whether it's Guy Martins mech or Fred Bloggs. That could have been bad news in the wrong situation and if you'd had an accident and had to be taken to hospital the filth would have been all over the bike and put it down to your neglect ! Hes always gone above and beyond for me in the past and I have no reason to distrust him. If it is a problem that's come from his place (which it likely is) then he will no doubt be mortified and will do everything in his power to make it right. My only other assumption is that there has been a 3rd mechanic helping out during lockdown due to demand so its possible he may have made a mistake? Or at the end of the day its a possibility my guy made a mistake.... we're all human. Either way I'm confident in him enough to know it will be sorted and sorted properly ? Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - fazersharp - 25-02-21 Hope I am not tempting fate here but its one advantage of being anal about cleaning your bike and you get very personal and intimate :eek with every nut and bolt and hopefully you spot things like that straight away. Good that you heard it though. If I do some major work on my bike I like to ride for a while without my earplugs in so I can hear if anything if not right. If the shop mech was the last person to touch the bike, it needs to go back there ASAP for a full check (and they can fucking collect it). They need to make sure there are no other fucking loose bolts that they cant be sure they did or didnt touch, FFS. That simple ride could have ended extremely badly for you, and with the emergency services stretched as they the police would have then enquired as to why you were out on your bike...!!! Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - robbo - 26-02-21 Dropped off the front pegs, gear and brake pedals and footrest hangers together with the clutch cover, at the powder coaters. Nice day to be out. ![]() Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - albuquerqueturkey - 26-02-21 (25-02-21, 05:44 PM)fazersharp link Wrote: Hope I am not tempting fate here but its one advantage of being anal about cleaning your bike and you get very personal and intimate :eek with every nut and bolt and hopefully you spot things like that straight away. Took my gen 2 for the first time since autumn and when cleaning it down noticed my RHS upper engine bolt was loose and the crash bung flapping about. Never been off in my ownership. All engine bolts were then retorqued to spec (the rest seemed fine) Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - coffee - 26-02-21 Seen it all now,I ordered oil & filter on line and it came today in a fucking cardboard box! it's called a lube cube and you push a perforated part of the box and pull this moody top out which is attached to a polythene bag of oil then pour it out.To be fair it did work ok with my lovely wife holding the funnel but it all seemed a bit cheap and cheerful to me,it's supposed to be good for the environment so I suppose we'd better get used to it. ![]() Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - Dudeofrude - 26-02-21 (26-02-21, 07:01 PM)coffee link Wrote: Seen it all now,I ordered oil & filter on line and it came today in a fucking cardboard box! it's called a lube cube and you push a perforated part of the box and pull this moody top out which is attached to a polythene bag of oil then pour it out.To be fair it did work ok with my lovely wife holding the funnel but it all seemed a bit cheap and cheerful to me,it's supposed to be good for the environment so I suppose we'd better get used to it. Yeah my last lot of oil came like that. Found it a bit of a faff doing it on my own as you have to either keep the spout out of the box or just take the full bag out.. neither way works well with 1 hand while your holding a funnel ? Tickles me anyway.... better for the planet, yeah unlike the 4litres of dead dinosaur inside of it ? Anyway a continuation of my saga. The bike was collected last night and taken to the garage. I received a call from my mechanic this morning. He didn't go as far as admitting it was a fault from his end but I think he's happy to agree with my logic that they were the last people to touch it and it hasn't been ridden since. So anyway he has taken the cover off, fitted a new gasket, 3 new bolts then topped up the oil. He has then cleaned and degreased the whole bike for me (including some special tyre degreaser on the rear?♂️) Now as a gesture of good will he is looking into the charging issue for me for free and if its something he can sort without parts then he's not going to charge me (although it's not in me to accept work for free so I will still pay him for collecting and dropping of the bike at least) So fingers crossed its something simple but seeing as the stator, rotor and battery are less than 9 months old and have only been used for probably 4 hrs max I can see it being something else expensive ? Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - Dudeofrude - 26-02-21 Well some good news at last! Turned out to be a bent connector pin in the stator plug. It's been straightened out and now the bike is charging spot on... what a relief ? Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - fazersharp - 27-02-21 Today I rode past a Co-op and a sainsburys and an Asda and an Aldi and a lidle and a waitrose also a tescos just to get to my nearest farm shop -- I was shopping and not testing my bike or taking parts to get painted or going for a first run of the year. ![]() Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - darrsi - 27-02-21 (27-02-21, 12:05 AM)fazersharp link Wrote: Today I rode past a Co-op and a sainsburys and an Asda and an Aldi and a lidle and a waitrose also a tescos just to get to my nearest farm shop -- I was shopping and not testing my bike or taking parts to get painted or going for a first run of the year. First run, it's nearly March? Do you not ever use it to travel to work on? Were you trying to find a Morrisons? Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - robbo - 02-03-21 My rear Ohlins is due for a service. Darren at MCT would be my first choice, but obviously the current situation prevents riding that far. A pal put me on to a suspension guy fairly near me. Took it over this morning. The guy turned out to be Jake Dixons crew chief. Top man. My shock service will be one of his last jobs before flying out next week to Qatar for the start of this seasons MotoGp. |
