Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - fazersharp - 12-12-20 If that's oil you are looking at through the sight glass then its the cleanest oil ever seen. Side stand - Oil on the other side and none in window with slightly discoloured glass IMO Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - b1k3rdude - 12-12-20 Yep, which is why I dont think its oil, but the lack of it due toi the bike being on the side stand. My FZS did the same thing Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - fazersharp - 12-12-20 Gotta say though the sight glass is nice and big and easy to view unlike tiny crappy one on the fzs 600 Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - darrsi - 13-12-20 (12-12-20, 11:56 PM)fazersharp link Wrote: Gotta say though the sight glass is nice and big and easy to view unlike tiny crappy one on the fzs 600 I vaguely remember the days when i could see oil in my sump through the glass window. Can't see a damn thing now. :\ Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - darrsi - 13-12-20 Tried to figure out why my air horn had reduced in noise and would screech in damp or wet weather? There was some rust on the connections which i cleaned up and that helped a bit, but it still wasn't quite right. But for some unknown reason i'd bought another one, 7 years ago, and i hadn't even unwrapped the jiffy bag? No idea why i bought it, but it was an exact replica of the Stebel Nautilus Compact air horn, made by Ring, and was half the price. So i tried that out and it sounded much more efficient and was more responsive on the horn button so i just did a direct swap and now all is good. I since found an article saying that the compressor part on the Stebel horn may just need a few drops of oil to get it functioning correctly so i might have a look in a bit, plus the 2 main wires that power it are very easily accessible on my bike to test it out again. I asl because I have the same thing on my Bandit and may have to do this work. Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - darrsi - 13-12-20 This is what I found.... Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - darrsi - 13-12-20 My air horn must've been on my bike close to 10 years now, so it would make sense that a moving part might need a drop of oil bearing in mind the amount of different weather conditions it's been through in all that time. Could it be that £1.99 5ltr oil you use :pokefun Or could it be that because of the amount of heavy traffic commuting you do that your oil is running hotter than my "fun use only" riding in the Shires and the hot oil has stained it. [/quote] Nothing wrong with my choice of oil. I won't use anything else now. It happened before I was using it anyway. I've not got an answer to be honest, yes I do shorter runs than some people, but as you mention I change my oil every 4000 miles so I really have no idea why it has blacked itself out? I literally cannot see anything through it at all, so i put 2.8litres of oil in with a new filter then it doesn't get touched aga in until the next change. Obviously if I spotted any kind of oil leak I'd have to deal with it immediately but otherwise it's not really a big deal at all. I tried separating the plastic horn part from the compressor but it seems like it has been put together in a way so that it doesn't come apart easy at all. If it wasn't working well at all I might use a bit more brute force, but because it is working I don't particularly want to break it while dismantling it. It does feel like there could be a seal as well where it joins. Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - darrsi - 13-12-20 Just saw a bloke on YouTube separating the compressor from the plastic horn very easily using a screwdriver for leverage so it can be done. Be careful not to break the plastic clip holding it all in place though. I'm in no hurry at all to do this though due to my new replacement horn so I might give it a go over the Xmas holidays now as I need the bike as a power source to test it out. Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - b1k3rdude - 14-12-20 Make sure you fully tape/seal the fork inner, last thing you need is any of that grit inside your forks or the internal surfaces getting a accidental blast. Good point, I'd not considered that! :eek Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - darrsi - 20-12-20 (13-12-20, 11:50 AM)darrsi link Wrote: This is what I found.... Stebel Nautilus Compact Air horn maintenance (from previous conversation above) The hole towards the right in the photo is the air intake, and the pipe at the top is air out. I haven't done it yet but I'll try brake cleaner first, then either WD40 or oil and keep blipping the horn to get the parts moving inside and lubed. Be aware, when you prise the horn upwards you need to release the little round part of the plastic horn from the air intake beforehand. |
