Re: Dirt bike/motocross - sinto607276 - 27-12-15 Righto, thinking caps on guys..... The thing I really need help with is with the wiring from the ignition, see pics but basically 4 wires and I can connect the black and red and the bike turns over. The other two wires don't seem to do anything when connected but there's a kill switch on the bike and I'm wondering if these could be anything to do with that as I'm not getting a spark although the plug looks good. It's an electronic sealed coil so I can't really check that as no tester. So if you guys have any ideas to help that would be great. Appreciate you might not want to say how to hot wire a bike on here so just pm me any of your ideas, cheers. First pic is from the ignition switch of which I don't have a key, 2nd pic is what's in the wiring loom of the bike. Re: Dirt bike/motocross - unfazed - 27-12-15 What colour wires come from the Ignition Coil? What colour wires come from the stator: (left side of engine) What colour wire/s come from the kill switch. Is there a black wire with a doulbe connector on it? Most Chinese pit bike use green as earth. Does it have a key ignition switch??? Re: Dirt bike/motocross - unfazed - 27-12-15 2, 3 or 4 wires from the ignition switch and what colour? If it has a battery it will have a small rectifier/regulator. There should be a pick up wire or 2 from the engine, what colour are they. Post as many pictures as possible of any connectors. there are a number of pit bikes which are wired differently, it is just trying to figure out which one you have. Re: Dirt bike/motocross - sinto607276 - 27-12-15 More Re: Dirt bike/motocross - sinto607276 - 27-12-15 More Re: Dirt bike/motocross - sinto607276 - 27-12-15 Sorry I can't write what I think they are as my pics only go in at end of post but hopefully you'll see what you need? Re: Dirt bike/motocross - unfazed - 27-12-15 Colin email them to me patj_duggan@yahoo.co.uk Re: Dirt bike/motocross - sinto607276 - 27-12-15 (27-12-15, 09:17 PM)unfazed link Wrote: ColinHave sent a few, cheers. Re: Dirt bike/motocross - unfazed - 27-12-15 Got them, give me a while to go through them and I should be able to sort something out on it. It has a working starter and need to bypass the Key switch I presume. It has petrol in it ?? :lol Re: Dirt bike/motocross - sinto607276 - 28-12-15 (27-12-15, 10:55 PM)unfazed link Wrote: Got them, give me a while to go through them and I should be able to sort something out on it.Cheers but there's no rush tbh it's a project so I can work with my boy and he can learn about bikes (I'm learning to ![]() The starter is turning over, the piston is going up and down, there is compression but there was no spark at the original time of writing but there is now. The carburettor is off the bike as I wanted to see how bad/good it was as I knew the bike had been lying for a few years. Since looking at it in detail I'll need to order another one. So there is no petrol in the system, originally I wanted to know if I could bypass the ignition switch and kill switch as I didn't have a key. Re: Dirt bike/motocross - unfazed - 28-12-15 Can you check the wires from the ignition switch with a meter? is there a short across the green and one other wire with the switch in its present state? If you do not have a meter a battery and bulb will do the trick Re: Dirt bike/motocross - sinto607276 - 28-12-15 (28-12-15, 07:17 PM)unfazed link Wrote: Can you check the wires from the ignition switch with a meter? I think I'll put the carburettor back on, put some fuel in it and try it as above and see if it goes into action. I found a wire in one of the connectors not inserted properly so that might be the reason it didn't start for previous owner. In the note of the carburettor, does anyone think it's worth cleaning or just replace, it has been sitting idle for a few years and it doesn't look clean inside. What would you clean it with? It's approximately £20 for a new one. Re: Dirt bike/motocross - unfazed - 28-12-15 I usually use Cellulose thinners, but take out any rubbers like seals and O Rings first. The cellulose will damage rubber and some gasket types. Then with everything out soak all the jets and the carb body in the Thinners over night. Then wash it out with the thinners and reverse blow through all the orifices, but at £20 for a new one is it worth the trouble. On some 4 wire ignition switches when on it connects 2 wiree together and when off connects the second pair of wires together, which is why I need to know if there is a short circuit between two wires in the off position Re: Dirt bike/motocross - sinto607276 - 03-01-16 Wee update..... Cleaned and sorted the wiring loom, ![]() Split and cleaned the carburettor (temp job as need a new one me thinks) ![]() Checked spark plug ![]() Checked all other engine parts ![]() Put some fuel in the tank Used my bike battery to give it a try bit it won't fire up ![]() Don't know if easy start will help and also need to get a new carburettor as I think old petrol has goosed the jets etc But apart from that, my boy is learning loads and enjoying working on the bike :thumbup So once I order the parts that's needed hopefully it'll fire up. Anyone any idea what size of carburettor I should get? I think it's a 22mm that's on it but been told I can get a 24mm for extra ooomph but can only seem to get them from USA or either a 26mm from UK, as far as I know I can only fit a MIKUNA one on it but I'm not sure. ![]() Re: Dirt bike/motocross - sinto607276 - 03-02-16 Well, eventually got all the parts and got them fitted and with all the other stuff happening to me I got the thing started :thumbup Not running sweet but it's a start, a wee fine adjustment here or there and it'll be good to go me thinks ![]() My boy's delighted and that's the main thing in my book. https://youtu.be/jbIMvkkKISY |
