Tonight, I have been mostly listening to...

Thin Lizzy, Live & Dangerous.
Brian Robertson & Scott Gorham Q&A solos on "Emerald" - brilliant (still)  Smile

I love his stuff!

Have you got his "Get Lucky" album? That has some great tunes on it, with a lot of folk influence - think Golden Heart gone more folk.  Smile

Actually Mick, that's not his best playing (and the sound quality on that clip isn't great), but I was too tired last night to trawl for anything else - I wanted to find you a piece with a strong Scottish influence! I promise you his albums are well worth buying.
Interesting to note, he gave up a promising career in mathematics to take to guitar playing professionally, everyone told him he was daft, but I wish I could earn what he probably gets for doing what he loves best!

Yes, that was the album I was listening to actually. I particularly like border reiver, and get lucky. Ive only just got his new album "privateering" but not listened to it much yet.

If thats some of his poor(er) playing, Im intrigued to hear what he sounds like when he is on form -  must be class. Certainly someone ill be checking out more of, for sure (my missus' likes music like Avicii, and calvin harris, so she totally doesnt get what i consider "proper" music) Smile

Not as good, IMO. Get Lucky is his best recent work, I think!

Other great tracks on the album are "Hard shoulder" and the finale "Piper till the end".

I think Get Lucky is one of those albums where no one song is phenomenal, but all the songs on it are really good instead.  Smile

Re: Talking Guitars (Again?) - mickvp - 24-08-13

piper till the end, how could i forget that! agreed, very good songs all round really, the finale being one of the top ones! very reminiscent of "brothers in arms" for me, but in a good way Smile

Re: Talking Guitars (Again?) - nick crisp - 26-08-13

On the subject of contemporary rock, with a classic influence, I'd highly recommend Rival Sons.

Re: Talking Guitars (Again?) - mickvp - 01-09-13
