Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - ChristoT - 27-02-13

Went for a little spin, trying to get knee down. Failed miserably, so headed to the bike shop for a chin-wag. Saw a couple of friends (non foccers, sadly), and had a go on an Aprilia! Also saw a Thundercat there. Lazy day but a fun day...

Oh, and scared drivers in the Hatfield tunnel again.  :lol

Fitted rubber gaiters on the forks.
[smg id=621]

Not to everybodys taste, but I like the look. Kind of reminds me of the BSA Rocket Gold Star look, except the Fazer does everything better  Smile .  More important they serve a useful purpose in keeping all the road crap off the working surfaces of the forks.

good idea Wink what's that between your header pipes?

Mine hasn't done much of late (bloody cold here, cars covered in frost on way out of work).
MoT and insurance will be renewed shortly, a new back tyre is due (not worn out totally, but badly squared off), will get a set of crash bungs after being damaged in the works car park (twice...), and currently deciding whether to put fairing lowers on it.

That's an aluminium shield, (with a bit of graphics on it), which stops water and road grit thrown up by the front wheel spraying the front of the engine.
It extends under the pipes and also protects the pipe junction area from being shot blasted by grit.
Even with a fender extender on it's surprising how high spray from the front wheel gets up the engine.
Now it's just the graphics that takes a battering  Wink .
On the old site I posted drawings of the shield and brackets needed to fit it, but I don't think anyone else bothered.

Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - FazerRuss - 28-02-13

Today I replaced 90% of the standard "cheese" bolts with stainless  8) , adjusted the EXUP valve cables (as it seems they were waaaay out)  :eek , replaced the hideously expensive adjustable pegs with 'normal' black anodised ones so not I can operate things much better  Smile , and confused myself with why the chain seems to slap about despite being set to the handbook specified slackness. :\

Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - limax2 - 28-02-13

Having fitted the rubber gaiters yesterday and a good weather forecast for today I thought I had better take the bike out for a test ride  Smile . The difficult decision was should I do the Shap-Penrith-Alson-Teesdale loop or should I thrill the good peaple of Cumbria with my visit. The view of the snow capped mountains of the Lake District on the way up decided it. It was one of those days when it seems a waste to stop for lunch rather than just to carry on riding. Warm, dry and very little traffic. The Kirkstone Pass had a road closed sign at the Windermere end but I figured I would give it a go anyway. Result, even less traffic and no sign of any road closed, it doesn't get much better  8) .  I stood in the road to take this photo with the Langdale Pikes in the distance.

Happy days.

rode to work like my hair was no fire, rode home from work like my hair was on fire  :evil

Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - Liroka - 01-03-13

Replaced fork seals/oil. Cleaned the front caliper pistons and replaced the pads (figured it was the best thing to do seeing as on one side both of the pads fell off the backing plates when I removed the caliper  :eek ). Replaced the pistons and seals on the rear caliper and gave it a bloody good clean. Discovered there's no coolant in the reservoir and now hoping there's not a massive leak. Ordered a new rear tyre and rear brake disc. The wife thinks this is 'becoming' an expensive hobby.  :lol

Looking at the posts above - where did you get the gaiters if you don't mind me asking?

Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - robby boy - 01-03-13

Took it to work and blew up the tyres, first time its been out since November, wish I'd cleaned it when I parked it up, lots of cleaning and greasing to be done over the weekend.

I got those direct from www.pyramidparts.co.uk . They cost £19.99 plus £2.50 postage. I have had gaiters from them before for other bikes and they seem decent quality and always fast delivery. The nearest size I could see for the FZS600 was 42x60x250, which are actualy too long as they would have become coil bound on fork compression. The solution to that is to cut about three of the convolutions out near the top and then overlapping a couple of convolutions from the top part into the bottom part. These are quite flexible and it makes a good seal. If you cut neatly at the bottom of the convolution you can't see the joint. Now with the forks fully extended the gaiters are in a natural position and still allow for full fork compression.
Places like M & P and Wemoto and on Ebay have plenty of gaiters but again I couldn't find any that were the exact size in all dimensions.

Fitted a new rubber bung over the o/s swing arm bolt where it goes thru the frame. Mine had gone awol on a ride recently :-\

Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - Skippernick - 02-03-13

Put the new tax disc in its holder.
Got my IAM check ride tomorrow (test soon maybe), so using mind persuasion techniques to increase the thread depth in my front tyre.
