Re: petrol stations and lids - ddtwelve - 26-07-12 this is Esso's reply Dear Mr. Wildman Thank you for your recent enquiry regarding the requirement for motorcyclists to remove their helmets on certain occasions whilst on Esso forecourts. We value our motorcyclist customers and should like to assure you that any complaint received by Esso is taken extremely seriously and followed up appropriately. It is a legal requirement that our Sales Advisors supervise our forecourts to ensure the safety and security of our customers and staff onsite. We are also required to check that anyone using a fuel pump is at least 16 years of age - the minimum age for buying fuel. Consequently, our Sales Advisors visually check our customers before authorising the pump to dispense fuel. Whilst we do not insist as a rule that all motorcyclists remove their helmets before dispensing fuel, we may do so if the Sales Advisor is unable to see the individual clearly. In addition, in the past there have been a number of robberies at our service stations where those responsible have worn motorcycle helmets for the sole purpose of hiding their faces to avoid being identified. It is also, therefore, our standard policy to ask anyone wearing a motorcycle helmet to remove it before entering our stores. We do this with the best intention of trying to ensure the safety and security of our customers and staff. I regret if the request for you to remove your helmet caused you any offence, and hope that you understand the reasons for our policy. Try going to some countries like Belgium where at a lot of stations everyone has to pay in advance, then go back in and get your change if you dont use all the €20 you have given them. Re: petrol stations and lids - MissB - 18-03-14 I only go to Sainsbury's now as they don't make me take my lid off... Mickey Re: petrol stations and lids - darrsi - 18-03-14 One of the garages I use is normally full of police where they stop to get a coffee and probably several doughnuts. I've never removed my lid in there but they do all tend to give me dirty looks. :lol Re: petrol stations and lids - Lawrence - 18-03-14 (18-03-14, 12:06 PM)midden link Wrote:
Why under helmet, ride in to station with one over the helmet, that would cause a dilemma.
Lol that'd be an interesting one ![]() Personally, if I get asked to remove my lid I'll just stick the pump back and buy my fuel elsewhere. I'd have to be on fumes to take it off and should that happen I'll just take my time putting my balaclava back on, then sorting my jacket out, then my lid, then gloves all standing at the counter holding the queue up. Re: petrol stations and lids - Offtheclockuk - 23-03-14 I only ever fill up at morrisons, mainly because it's less than a quarter of a mile from work, Never once been asked to remove my lid, I did once have a jokey telling off from one of the girls for filling up while sat on the bike but never mentioned the lid, even with the camera on the side not even a second glance. However, the tesco directly across the road refuse point blank to even turn the pump on, once while a guy from the group was stood inside with no lid on waving a £20 note under their noses! I wear glasses too and it's just a bit of a ball ache really. Re: petrol stations and lids - Andy FZS - 23-03-14 Just use tesco and pay at the pump..simples. Re: petrol stations and lids - midden - 23-03-14 Petrol stations and lids Could become a tony christie hit Re: petrol stations and lids - pilgo - 23-03-14 i always try to use the Esso garage in Glastonbury as the manager and 2 of the other blokes who work there are all bikers, but as and when i start getting out on the bike more i'll no doubt end up with the hassel of taking me lid off,so as stated above,i'll just really take my time with the whole process and hold the queue up for as long as possible-not really the cagers fault, but just to piss the attendant off :lol went to Germany on my old cbx750 way back in 1988 for the football, filtering passed loads of cars waiting to cross into herman land, got stopped by a very polite border gaurd/dibble,checked my passport, casualy asked if i was going to the football, when i said i was,his whole attitude changed, had all the panniers off the bike, checked me,the bike, all my gear all over the fucking road in front of all these cars that id smuggly filtered passed earlier.of course he didnt find nothing of any note (id sent my flick knife/knuckle dusters cs gas out by post, you know what scum us England fans used to be in the 80's!! :evil ) and told me to go.so of course,i took as long as i could, and i mean focing ages,re packing my kit into the panniers, then strapping the panniers to the bike, then getting kitted up again before bimbling off, much to the annoyance to the car that the blond aryion anti English twat had pulled over as his next victim and the guard who kept hassling me to get on with it,not sure he enjoyed being told that it was his collegue that had strewn my well packed gear all over the floor, and that he'd have to wait while i packed it properly. and they carry guns on the border over there.well, they did back then anyway. happy days!! Re: petrol stations and lids - fazersharp - 24-03-14 Dont like taking off me lid -- its a faf I also have to take off my glasses - put them down some place, put my helmet down - usually the best place is where my glasses are, so put glasses on face and put lid in place of glasses. oh yeh and pick up ear plugs that removing the helmet has just ripped out. Then pay, then swap lid for glasses (remember glasses are on face lid is on the counter ) put glasses back on - walk out seeing que is now longer than when I went in. And all that in case I ride off with £5 worth of fuel. Re: petrol stations and lids - midden - 24-03-14 I suppose there is the other option. Buy a car ![]() Re: petrol stations and lids - NorthWestern - 24-03-14 I have started to use a new Morrisons station thats opened near me as they have the pay at pump ... pumps and you can use em with the lid on.
