Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - Fazerider - 11-11-18 Hmm, while half of us on here will have had the CG125 as their first bike I think things have moved on a bit in the last 40-odd years. I know they updated it from the 6V electrics and front drum, but even so. Can't see the point of storing a bike you're not going to use, I’d get shot of it and when the time comes consider something like a KTM Duke for example… at least you can use the ABS as a selling point to a worried mum. Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - ogri48 - 11-11-18 if his mum don't want him on a bike mate, id go with that, and flog the cg. I promised my son his bike test for his 21st, but only on agreement that he stuck to a car for the four years leading up to it. his mum was the same, didn't want him on two wheels, but once he had that experience of raod hazards etc behind him she was a lot more relaxed. He passed his test and by then had a missus and a kid, went on to have more, he was thirty before he finally got himself a bike. we both loved "sons of anarchy" so I bought a black dyna fatboy, to leave to him when I die/stop riding. then he was seriously ill, big lump of cancer cut out of his chest (he never smoked, drank, fit as buggery black belt karate and cage fighter so Christ knows huh)nearly died, and once he was well again, I gave him the Harley, to make up for all the years he had waited to get a bike, and so he could enjoy it every precious day of the life he got back. hes nearly forty now, got four kids and a granddaughter, still got it and will leave it to his son one day too. four generations and one bike is kinda cool ![]() Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - nick crisp - 11-11-18 Hell of a story Paul, glad to hear he came through it. I hope he loves every minute on that bike. It's often only when you nearly lose everything that you learn to appreciate anything properly (although it sounds like your son wasn't wasting his life before his illness), which is sad. I don't think anyone should ever 'push' bikes on their children, but once over 18, let it be their decision. Then just encourage the safety aspect as much as you can, gear, training, riding sensibly. That doesn't mean they'll always heed advice, but you have to let them live their own life. My own parents bought me my first bike, a little 50, as I needed some transport - they never said anything much to me about what they thought about it all, just left me to get on with it - think they knew I wouldn't have listened anyway :rolleyes . My dad rode for a while, hurt his back in an accident (like father, like son :rolleyes ), but still neither he nor my mum said anything about me riding them. Both my brothers rode bikes too (it was my eldest brother that passed the bug onto me). On topic, my own Fazer is now laid up for the foreseeable, which grieves me greatly ![]() Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - ogri48 - 11-11-18 ah thats a bummer mate, but at least you aint missing much with the weather. ![]() Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - red98 - 11-11-18 Touching story OGRI and what a generous thing to do :thumbup .........nothing worse than seeing your son / daughter going through a rough time , Illness , money worries , job , partner problem or what ever , great that you were there for him when he needed you most......hope hes enjoying the harley..... the CG will most probably be sold in the spring , its costing nothing to store and hopefully will fetch more money then , got it for a bargain price so might even make a bit of profit.... FAZERIDER.......the plan was to get a cheap 125 just too pass his test on then sell it on and buy something like a MT3 or simular , make all the mistakes on the cheap bike thats easy to repair my own mum didnt like my brother or me having bikes , shes 85 now and still reminds me to "be carefull".... always gets the same answer "yes mum" :lol .........funny how things turn out ......... Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - Dynspud - 11-11-18 Jeez Paul, must have been a really tough time for both your son and for you. Really glad to hear he's all OK now mate. Goes to show you never know what might be around the corner. As Muhammad Ali once said, "Don't count the days, make the days count". That's something we should all try to do 8) Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - robbo - 18-11-18 Went for a breakfast whizz down to the Airport caff on the A20. Should have chosen Loomies which is west of me as the super bright low sun coupled with drying B roads made riding east fairly slow progress. Plenty of good roads on the way home, which was spoilt by the bikes refusal to rev past 6k, so having a trawl through similar past problems encountered by this forum's members, to give me some ideas for a garage session tomorrow. Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - HarryHornby - 18-11-18 Finally got back out on her for a fair while (2 months) :o Damp country lanes along with several horse riders, and lack of recent riding by me made for a slow ride (even slow for me, Captain Slow) but it was still fab to be back out on the bike. The wife is finally working more hours so fingers crossed, 2019 will see new suspension front and rear :-) Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - Anquetil - 19-11-18 A ride to Rhos on Sea for a coffee and teacake on the prom. Around 8 degrees, quiet roads. Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - Dynspud - 25-11-18 Bled the rear brake caliper on my Gen 1 thou. A real pain to get it right with the two separate bleed nipples but got it nice and firm after many, many brake pedal presses and half a bottle of fluid :'( Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - agricola - 27-11-18 Balanced up the injectors. Been a little rough at idle, and not smooth when throttling up from low speed. Sounds much smoother now, runout this pm. Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - Fazerider - 03-12-18 I took the bike to Chilworth in Surrey yesterday (for a look round the gunpowder mills and a sweaty climb up to St Martha's church). The bike fired up instantly, despite not having been used in a couple of weeks, but only on two cylinders. The others chimed in increasingly often as the miles went by, but even at the end of the run it was rough as hell at low rpm. :'( Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - agricola - 03-12-18 Removed the forks, left them draining for a few hours, them ill wash em out with a little white spirit, let them drain again. Hopefully find the time to pop them back in tomorrow. Ive gone for Silkolene 5wt as my understanding is that this is a little heavier than the standard Yam01 oil. I do find the front end dive on the track a bit sharp for my liking Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - tommyardin - 03-12-18 (10-11-18, 08:54 PM)red98 link Wrote:
MOT today and iam pleased to say it passed with flying colours .only comment from the tester was how clean it was ![]() Left the brake lever tied down all week and is now hard , had a littls ride after the test and the rear brake is now as it was , but iam am now on the lookout for a thou rear caliper....... confession time......ive let all you foccers down and am truly sorry........... total mileage for the last 12 months........... 1017 miles :o
Hi Red, Much the same I am afraid, since last March (2018) I have only done 1,120 miles on the Fazer. I will not be doing anymore now until next March when it comes out of hibernation. I recently bought a new air filter, sparkers and NGK sparker caps, 4Lts Of Shell Performance semi synth 4T oil and filter. I got in the shed this afternoon and did the deed on the bike and to be honest the oil that came out was so clean I wondered if I should even of changed it as there was only a slightly dark-ish tinge to it, but mostly still orange/brown. air filter was clean also. Anyway I did them all, the plugs were changed the year before last so had only done 3,000 mile so have kept them as spares plus the filter that came out. The old Semi Synth oil I will use in the mowers when I service them as it is so clean. I think next Spring/Summer it will be time for the old Fazer to move on, I have loved owning it for the last 5 years, but to be honest it has been a project as much as a ride, I have spent a shed load on it and I am feeling its time to stop. I did not sell my Honda C90-G, as an eBay wanker bid for it, won the auction then didn't have the money, but to be honest I am not sorry it did not sell, Plus the auction ended much, much lower than I was hoping it would. But being realistic November is not the time to be selling a fully restored motorcycle. I can ride the Honda about if I want a bit of fun next summer. I am spending more and more time on the boat now rather than the bikes anyway. Red, I fitted a Fazer 1K Blue Spot to the rear of my 2003 FZS600 earlier in the year and serviced the front calipers at the same time, just a caution be careful the first few times you use the rear brake if you fit the Blue Sport as I locked the back wheel up by being over enthusiastic on the brake pedal. It is a great upgrade and also aesthetically it is good move to. The pic below is the kit that I purchased from a foccer in here. I gave it a good clean up and red rubber greased the pots before fitting and put new pads in plus new R clips Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - agricola - 08-12-18 Having balanced the injectors, I've also replaced the fork oil, gone for Silkolene 5wt rather than the Yam 01, after a bit of research on weights. Took it out for a 20 mile spin, just got back in the garage, and spotted that I forgot to tighten up the caliper bolts. Twat, I must be getting senile. One bottom bolt on its last thread, the other three half out. At least the throttle snatch at low revs has gone, and the forks feel better for the swap Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - Fazerider - 13-12-18 It’s misfiring horribly below 4000 rpm, the plugs are seized in the head and 2nd gear is worse than useless… so I’ve bought it a replacement engine. Hopefully arriving tomorrow. Unfortunately one of the less accessible exhaust studs is sheared so I’ll have to figure out how to extract that before I find out if the engine is good. :'( Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - Northern Biker - 14-12-18 Changed plugs, oil & filter, air filter and new coolant ready for the colder weather setting in. Runs a bit better but has always been lumpy on idle and hesitates a bit sometimes when setting off so took carbs off for a strip and clean. Pilot jets were a little blocked so decided to go through them with a fine toothed comb and then chuck them in my mates sonic cleaner..... until I came to remove the idle air screws! One has snapped on me and the other 3 are seized solid. Bike is now off the road for the foreseeable future being so close to Christmas I don't have the cash to buy some 2nd hand carbs to refurbish. Ah Bugger :'( Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - coffee - 15-12-18 (14-12-18, 01:01 AM)Northern Biker link Wrote: Changed plugs, oil & filter, air filter and new coolant ready for the colder weather setting in. Sat on the prom for a teacake and coffee at the Cayley. Back via St Asaph, Denbigh, Ruthin. 110 miles in very mild conditions, some sunshine, quiet roads. Even had to clean flies off the visor. A very enjoyable ride. |
