Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - MMCMME - 09-07-17 Finally have her all back together ![]() Valves shimmed, plugs changed, coolant changed, exhaust studs drilled out and replaced with stainless, front of engine painted and a general clean of all areas I cant normally get to. Throttle body sync tomorrow! Before and after pics! Not perfect but much better than before ![]() Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - Grahamm - 10-07-17 I wanted to finally get the clutch cable adjusted, only to find that, to remove the airbox (which you need to do to get to the adjuster after you've taken all the slack out on the one by the clutch lever), you've got to undo an Allen bolt which is about 6" in from the nearest available point, but you've only got a 4" Allen Key to do it! ![]() So I said screw it and went out for a nice ride from Portsmouth, up through World's End, along the A32 and Morestead Road to Winchester, then back along the A272 to Loomies, only to find that I'd arrived about 5 minutes after they closed. Oh well, it was a great ride and, even though I'd not had the chance to do much similar riding for ages, I wasn't too rusty :thumbup Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - tommyardin - 10-07-17 Went for a blast down to the coast Sunday afternoon, spent a couple of hours on the beach reading my kindle, ridiculously busy, I think there were more people there than there were pebbles. Quick thrash back home, engine nice and hot so did an oil drain and new filter. Need to purchase some oil today to refill the old girl. To be honest the oil that came out was pretty clean with about 3.5 to 4K on it. Heard lots on here from different guys about oils, some say that there are some cheaper options out there from lesser known companies, but, I think I will pay premium prices and stick to what I have always used 'Shell Advance' motor cycle oil fully synthetic. Even if it is not any better than cheaper options it gives me confidence knowing it is a premium oil. Monday morning now, shit nights sleep, serves me right it was self inflicted as a group of 8 of us went to the Madhuban Tandoori Restaurant in Liss last night and sampled their delicious fare, well more than sampled pigged out is more accurate, not forgetting their delicious Cobra lager. So the upshot is for me at least is 'Do not over eat on spicy food a few hours before bedtime. Well at least I am up early to put my fly fishing tackle in my van, my Son and I are off to try catch a few trout at Meon Springs Fly Fishery today. Get oil on way home and replenish the old girl. Take a bike ride to Loomies tonight to grab a coffee and chat with some guys about all sorts of shite and look at the bikes. Sounds like a good day to me. Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - Dudeofrude - 12-07-17 Had her back on the dyno. Full custom map this time. Purring like a kitten now. Also booked her in for some new boots next week. Gonna try out the Pirellis this time ? Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - red98 - 17-07-17 Changed the oil and filter and topped up the coolant on the mighty thou , temp warning light came on the other day , first time thats happened , coolant was a little low and a bit discoloured , not been changed since I painted thd engine a while back , think ill drain , flush and refill for peace of mind ![]() Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - robbo - 17-07-17 A 175mile breakfast run for me yesterday taking in Surrey, Sussex and Kent. Breakfast at The Ranch in Wingham, and very nice it was too.All done on one tank,so obviously wasn't going fast enough. :lol Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - red98 - 17-07-17 You got a 600 aswell as the thou ROBBO :lol Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - robbo - 17-07-17 I know, I couldn't believe it 176.5 and the light is not on. Admittedly I did make the effort to squeeze in the last litre or so when I filled up, which I don't normally bother with :lol . Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - red98 - 17-07-17 Yeh . Been doing that myself lately.....just dribbling it in to the brim , makes a big difference to tank range and also upsets the cagers waiting to use the pump :lol Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - red98 - 17-07-17 Riding home from work today on my trusty 600 chains making a bit of a racket , on the centre stand and check adjustment , looked ok but found on hell of a tight spot , slackened it off a bit and is now running smooth......cheap chain , DID next time :thumbup Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - tommyardin - 17-07-17 One 10 mm bolt on gear change and a few allen screws its worth just checking the sprocket nut if the chain set was making a lot of noise, just as a precaution, 20 minutes off and on again, as against engine strip down and a shed full of expense if its gone tits up down there Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - fazersharp - 17-07-17 (17-07-17, 09:59 PM)tommyardin link Wrote: One 10 mm bolt on gear change and a few allen screws its worth just checking the sprocket nut if the chain set was making a lot of noise, just as a precaution, 20 minutes off and on again, as against engine strip down and a shed full of expense if its gone tits up down thereIf its clean enough in there you can actually see the nut if you lay on your back with a torch - or at least you can see if its on- like this Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - red98 - 17-07-17 Thats excatly what I did FAZERSHARP .....not surprisingly mine is nowhere near as clean as yours , doing a bit of maintenance on the mighty thou at the moment , want to finish that before I fit new chain and sprockets to the 600 , hopefully the small adjustment will do for now..... been an expensive few months , new jacket , boots , helmet , tyres and service items for the thou and now I need new c&s for the 600 and the tyres are looking past their best.. :\ .......need to get out more and get my monies worth :thumbup Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - fazersharp - 17-07-17 (17-07-17, 10:33 PM)red98 link Wrote: Thats excatly what I did FAZERSHARP .....not surprisingly mine is nowhere near as clean as yours , doing a bit of maintenance on the mighty thou at the moment , want to finish that before I fit new chain and sprockets to the 600 , hopefully the small adjustment will do for now.....The picture challenge is still waiting -- race you Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - lew600fazer - 18-07-17 New rear tyre being fitted this morning PR4, front still good and that is after 12500 kms/7800miles.There was still a bit of life left in the rear, okay bit flat down the middle but plenty on the important bits. It was just about legal but got pulled by the Gendarmes and was given the choice either €200 fine or new tyre. Tyres are not cheap in France this rear is costing me €180 fitted ouch!!!! Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - Jbizzle - 18-07-17 (24-06-17, 06:36 PM)NorthWestern link Wrote: Replaced It!! Picking a fresh one up tomorrow with just 17k on the clock... Is there a guide to the R1 front end conversion? Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - Grahamm - 18-07-17 I finally got an extension Allen Key long enough to get at that one annoying bolt on the Airbox so I could remove it just to adjust the clutch cable (bloody stupid design!) I had also planned on checking the air filter, only to find that whilst 5 of the 6 bolts would come undone easily enough, number 6 would not move and I ended up stripping the grooves on the bolt head when I tried too hard ![]() I couldn't be bothered to get the Dremel and put a new groove in the head, so I decided to give the adjusted clutch cable a test by going around the block. 70 miles counts as "around the block", doesn't it? ![]() Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - downey - 18-07-17 got a few miles in the sunshine ,,enjoying the renthal bars so far feels very nimble, also dropped it to the shop to have the fork seals replaced on the new forks ,yes thats a crutch strapped to the side of it :lol ![]() Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - Millietant - 19-07-17 Prepped Liz's Thou for its MOT - new Pilot Road 4 for the rear, brake overhaul (all 3 calipers), took apart, cleaned & greased all shock linkages, fitted R6 shock and dog bones (with temp 2.5mm spacers for the too mount), cleaned lubed and adjusted the chain and lubed everything in sight (and out of sight). Then decided to change the oil and filter while I was on with cleaning the engine - and finally gave the whole bike a clean and polish. She looks good for a 16yr old bike. ![]() ![]() ![]() Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - unfazed - 20-07-17 Just back from a trip around Northern France, Belgium, Holland, 12 days 1560 miles later 2 up fully loaded and my trusty 88000 mile Fazer 600 didn't miss a beat even when pushed fully loaded on a few Motorways. :woot Took in Mont St Michel, Beach in Granville, (watching a 12 metre high tide come in was interesting) the Musee Somme 1916 in Albert, wild traffic and blocked roads due to accidents in Belgium (glad I was on the bike, even rode down the wrong way down a slip road when everything was stopped dead due to a second accident on the detour route :eek ) and finally made it to our goal, an Andre Rieu concert in Maastricht. ![]() Yes, Belgium does have the worst signage and road system in europe, but once you know it then it is not an issue. :rolleyes No sat nav used just a map in the tank bag, but did resort to the GPs in my phone to get out of Mons in Belgium after being there for over an hour when 4 exit routes were blocked due to accidents. Saw later in the news it took 4 hours to clear the accidents and another hour to clear the traffic back log. Only rain we got was the crappy drizzle/fog from Cardiff to Carnew when heading for the 2:45am ferry home from in Pembroke,(sorry Fraser, but thought better of calling to your house after midnight ![]() Need to spend more time in Albert to visit the memorials, Museum took nearly 3 hours to walk around. A very emotional experience and we will be returning for the 100 year anniversary. Even more emotional for my wife whose Grandfather died in Salonica just 4 months before the war ended. Pictures are: the bunch of flowers for my wife Ellen :lol Before and after the war pictures of the village of Poziers taken in the museum ![]() The concertin full swing ![]() and finally my trusty steed and Ellen after our 660 mile return journey in 24 hours. ![]() |
