Re: What did you do with whatever else you've got? - Dead Eye - 20-12-14 Evening all, first things first, piccies! [smg id=2384 type=preview caption="Mazda RX-8"] [smg id=2385 type=preview caption="Mazda RX-8"] In other news... the MG LIVES!!! sort of... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V2bFRMYlWYM The reason the pictures were late is that I've spent most of the day reassembling -everything- on the ZS. Finally got to a point of being able to start it. It was pretty rough running and I was concerned for a bit, but after 1/4 mile of its inaugural test drive with the new parts it cleared its throat and we were off ![]() Its very loud at the moment (given that the exhaust is still a problem) and it's a bit vibey - but that could be down to the exhaust. The idle speed is rather fast at the moment - nearly twice as fast as standard so I'll be doing some research and checking that out. The downside however... the radiator is leaking... looks like the engine did some damage when it was being put back in to the engine bay. So, going to need to buy a new one before doing anything long distance. It's good to have it running though, but I've left it parked around the corner to satisfy the evil menace that has been complaining and the estate agents. Re: What did you do with whatever else you've got? - red98 - 20-12-14 A good day then deadeye :thumbup.....like the mazda, and the colour ![]() Re: What did you do with whatever else you've got? - noggythenog - 21-12-14 Yep love the motor deadeye 8) .......one of the new shapes too...very posh Re: What did you do with whatever else you've got? - Dead Eye - 21-12-14 It's not the sort of thing I would usually go for, but I just couldn't say no to the deal - it was somewhat of a steal ![]() The MG will sit still for the next few months until I can get round to replacing the radiator without incurring further wrath ![]() Re: What did you do with whatever else you've got? - slimwilly - 21-12-14 Nice car. you will pull the birds with that !!! :lol :lol Re: What did you do with whatever else you've got? - unfazed - 21-12-14 Nice clean looking RX. MG sure sounds ratty, is the exhaust blowing or is it very rattly hydraulic tappats trying to build up oil pressure Re: What did you do with whatever else you've got? - Dead Eye - 21-12-14 The exhaust has rotten through such that the back box is no longer connected... plus I lost one of the nuts that holds the exhaust to the manifold and didn't renew the gaskets so its probably blowing there as well. It's not ideal, but the car won't be doing mega-mileage and I will be booking it in to have an entirely new stainless steel system as soon as I replace the radiator and fix the idle ![]() Oddly, in that video the idle is at about the right speed, it was only later on that it started to have issues. I've got plenty to check though to make sure. Dealing with the radiator should give me a chance to look in to sorting a cold air feed for the air intake. The existing setup is atrocious Re: What did you do with whatever else you've got? - unfazed - 21-12-14 High idle be cause by the exhaust with the ECU trying to regulate fuel for the lean burning due to the exhaust blowing confusing the O2 sensors. Re: What did you do with whatever else you've got? - Dead Eye - 21-12-14 The major problem is behind any of the O2 sensors but I'll admit the manifold connection could be a problem... I'd like to rule out as many of the other possibilities as I can first though as I'd prefer to get the exhaust changed without this as a problem to ensure any tuning isn't skewed. Also, wouldn't the O2 sensors trigger an engine management light? I guess this is technically at the other end of the spectrum for readings but still... Re: What did you do with whatever else you've got? - unfazed - 21-12-14 It might eventually, but if the O2 sensors are working it will try and compensate. If the O2 sensors were faulty it will show the light immediately. Re: What did you do with whatever else you've got? - noggythenog - 21-12-14 O2 sensors went on my old skoda and i got a dash warning straight away......pain in the arse......first year was faulty temp sensor and second time was faulty pressure sensor. Re: What did you do with whatever else you've got? - Anquetil - 05-01-15 Mild, dry day. 80 miles in total, over to Oswestry down the Tanat valley, over the Berwyns to Bala, back to Wrexham via Llandegla. Traffic free roads, one reason I enjoy riding in the winter. Just hosed the bike down and dried it with the pet drier. Re: What did you do with whatever else you've got? - Dead Eye - 05-01-15 Renewed the insurance on the MG and bought insurance for the Mazda... my bank balance is really not happy :\ Re: What did you do with whatever else you've got? - Aegis Bearing Mel - 12-01-15 Spent the weekend farting around with me Ute. Tub liner off, reversing camera cables routed through bodywork, wire for tub LED lights down the same path, camera connected to reversing light supply, tub liner back on, LED strips for tub wired into cab light, door panels off, new speakers fitted, door liners back on, stereo fitted, cab gubbins re-fitted, bumper off, new headlights fitted, bumper back on and finally oil & air filters changed. Ah, thank fook that's over. I'll get some photos up when it's dark, let me see what the lights actually look like too. ![]() Re: What did you do with whatever else you've got? - nick crisp - 22-01-15 Drove it up to the top of the Kirkstone Pass, Lake District, and generally around the lakes and fells (never driven the car around there before). ![]() ![]() First time I've been up there in the winter too; thoroughly enjoyed a bit of slogging in the snow, though I didn't have the proper footwear for it and was limited for time. Re: What did you do with whatever else you've got? - Exupnut - 22-01-15 Don't u ever go to work? Re: What did you do with whatever else you've got? - taylor - 22-01-15 I will second that.?? Re: What did you do with whatever else you've got? - nick crisp - 22-01-15 Not if I can help it :lol Re: What did you do with whatever else you've got? - red98 - 24-01-15 Bought 2 new pistons for my suzuki X7, re-bore on monday, carbs ultra sonic cleaned yesterday waiting to be picked up all being well back in one bit next weekend :thumbup Re: What did you do with whatever else you've got? - Exupnut - 24-01-15 Don't forget grandpa..... The piston rings are fitted :-)) |
