Nice one! Interesting look with the leading calipers

Yeah, looks pretty different but I like it. You'll get loads of people saying you've got them the wrong way around though. haha

I do like the look of the front end but why fit them with calipers out front?.. Or am i missin somethin? (not too hard these days btw)  Smile

Fu¥k sake

Looks like I got more work to do tomorrow

I call it a school boy error

A bit off topic but I see you have the k&n individual air filters fitted, was thinking of doing it myself but did you have to dynojet her after and put her on the rolling road to get her running smoothly? Also the forks look badass, but I reckon put the calipers the other way round... Looks a bit weird in my opinion :-P

Still no wiser.. I figure you would say they are fitted that way because you can..

It was put on a dyno but that was done before I got her

The filters and stuby (cut down can) have a great howl to them

Would love to get mine on the rolling road and get the Rev range smoothed out! You reckon it would make alot of difference fitting them in ridability?

Re: Front end swap to USD forks (Almost done and now with picks) - Geordi Sussex - 17-04-14

I've not ridden another fazer so I can't compare

Bit I have to say riding mine is fun  :b

Heh, they're all good to ride  Big Grin

Very slick mate!

Could you let me know the diameter of the axle when you get a chance please?

Cheers,
Rob

On the leading / trailing caliper thing, I think most bikes have them trailing as a safety feature.

As we all known, aluminium is a pretty weak metal. And braking forces are considerable. With trailing calipers, the calipers (and/or their brackets) push against the entire fork when they grip the disc. If the calipers are leading, they only pull against that little aluminum mounting point. Hello, fatigue and catastrophic failure!

If you want an example of a caliper that pulls against its mount, check out the torque arm on the rear brake. That's a substantial lump.

What a mission of a day
But got it done. Looks a lot better
Also bumped into another fazer
Side by side I can't believe how chunky the bike looks

Re: Front end swap to USD forks (Almost done and now with picks) - Geordi Sussex - 18-04-14

Ok. A quick wrote up how the how to

Fitting a yzf750 from end is a relatively simple swap
The from end I got didn't have a stem in it so I'm not sure if it is direct bolt on job
But I bought a lower fzs600 yoke and stem off eBay
I had it pressed out and pressed into the yzf bottom yokes
Both arms are the same size so unlike R1 conversions no additional fabrication is required
It's also a great time to change your head bearings
If you have never changed head bearings it's a "fun" thing to do

The yzf dose not have risers so the yokes needs to be drilled
But as the ignition is off set you need to make sure that the holes are far enough away from the ignition housing that you can get the nut on

There is also a little tab that fouls on the left lock
So it needs to be ground off (prob best to do this then the front end is off

That's pritty much it

Good luck with your USD conversion.

Re: Front end swap to USD forks (done and now with pics and write up) - Geordi Sussex - 18-04-14

I had the lower parts of the forks milled out so I can use the blue do calipers
This also allowed me to use the standard fazer brake system

Apparently the blue dots are better than the 6 pots from the yzf

Re: Front end swap to USD forks (done and now with pics and write up) - Flak - 19-04-14

Aside from the looks, how does the handling compare with standard?

Re: Front end swap to USD forks (done and now with pics and write up) - Geordi Sussex - 19-04-14

It feels a little heavier

But going out for a long ride today so will see what it's like after that
