Try a 400 fazer? Same size as the 600 but surely cheaper to insure etc.

Re: Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! What have I done to fucking deserve THIS?! - Fuzzy - 01-01-14

Similar to the ER5, the GPZ500 is a cracker too. Couldn't have cost much to insure as I had a black '01 in my teens. Don't recall it being a physically small bike either

Edit: Just saw Fizzy suggested the same, great minds think a like or summat like that

Just to set the record straight Hyosung are actually a Korean make and not Chinese.

I've had one of these for the last four years. It's been used nearly every day since I bought it and the only things I've replaced have been a clutch cable and a battery.

The parent company actually make a lot of bike parts for Suzuki.

Looks good Kosmic, looking very clean!

Hyosung are highly regarded as a mid-range brand in some other markets, I remember people were raving about them when I visited the Middle East.

What cc is it Kosmic? Do they do something around 4/500 cc like that?

That ad sayswould benefit with a couple of tyres
I've read a thread somewhere about a crashed bike with crap tyres............I actually had a TTR250 for a few years for green laning, a very good bike for that until the start motor clutch went and knackered the crankcase, I should have fixed it at the first sign of something going wrong. The non Japanese Asians wont be making crap bikes for years to come, at some point they will start improving, its just a case of when.

Re: Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! What have I done to fucking deserve THIS?! - Yamazer-92 - 01-01-14

I had a Chinese 50cc supermoto that I owned from new for about 20 months. I really liked it because it was my first ever bike and I was finally on the road which I had been waiting for for years but looking back it wasn't well built at all. I really really looked after it too. Main problems I had were :
Spark plug very cheap quality, very exposed and HT leads and cap were extremely poor so wouldn't run in the rain.
Serious pitting on forks, luckily not in travel area even though I cleaned it very often.
Lots of rust, finish was very poor on swing arm and shock. I hadn't discovered ACF 50 then though.
Suspension looked beefy but was all for show and rear shock linkages weren't greased.
Can't remember seeing any grease anywhere in fact
Throttle Cable Snapped
Nylon tyres were finished after a couple of thousand miles
Exhaust was rotting to pieces before my eyes even worse than OEM fazer headers.
Indicators would play up although electrics were mostly reliable.
Gear Selector fell off, luckily in my driveway just as I was leaving
Chain was stretched and worn and rear sprocket was finished in about 5000 miles even with maintenance.
Speedo cable snapped.
Front disc rusted and warped somehow which made front end judder during braking.

There were probably more issues, to be fair though I rode it to 6th form, about 5 miles from my house, almost every day in all weather for nearly 2 years and it only broke down properly once when the throttle cable snapped. I did honestly love it, things like the awful HT leads etc can be swapped for decent Japanese ones and sprayed in stuff to keep water off. The thing is, I would hate to put it through its MOT after the 3 year exemplary period because I doubt it would pass and I think the deterioration from the time I sold it to it reaching 3 years old would have been really bad. If you are getting it bought for you though, definitely worth consideration. Definitely get a skilled mechanically able mate to thoroughly check everything over for you though, and treat it very gently especially the run in period because my engine was sound even after a fair few miles whereas a mate who bought the same bike ragged his everywhere and de-restricted his and it sounded terrible and was barely quicker than mine. You will need patience though because they are SLOW.

Then again, wouldn't it just be better to repair your Kawasaki and put some decent tyres on it? Think everyone is getting a bit off topic suggesting 500 twins and trialies etc that he has already stated he isn't interested in, don't fit him physically or can be insured on the cheap.

Re: Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! What have I done to fucking deserve THIS?! - JoeRock - 01-01-14

If he's going to have to get the engine sorted and new tyres, it'd probably just be cheaper to pick up something like a GS500 though!
Cheap insurance, bulletproof engine (which he'll need I think!) and to be honest fit wise he might have to just lump it - I can't see a 400CC sports bike as having been that good anyway for a tall chap, as most as too small for me and I'm 5 10 and about 10 stone!

Hi Nick

The bike pictured is a 125cc. They used to be imported by EP Barrus who we are gardening machinery dealers for where I work.

They are now imported by these people.

Re: Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! What have I done to fucking deserve THIS?! - ChristoT - 01-01-14

Just to set the record straight...

The Kwaka is at a garage, hopefully being looked at tomorrow.

I wanted a Fazer 4, but couldn't find one in time.

I am skint. As in zero money.

My parents have offered to lend me money for a new bike, BUT, it must be new, have a warranty, and be under £1500.

My hands are tied... Sad

Re: Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! What have I done to fucking deserve THIS?! - mickvp - 01-01-14

Seems a pretty obtuse attitude to demand it be new. Why not even buy something second hand with a third party warranty on it? Admittedly this would be a struggle for £1500 but the choice of new bikes for £1500 is very limited (to Chinese bikes basically).

Surely if they are agreeing to loan you money, its wrong of them to place demands on how you use it. Different if they are giving you money IMO?

Not a good predicament to be in at any rate, as driving a new Chinese bike is not something I would like to entertain, I've had a go on a lifan bike before and it was woeful quality Sad

Re: Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! What have I done to fucking deserve THIS?! - midden - 01-01-14

Perhaps his parents are worried about him buying dangerous tat with poor tyres and worn out engines and they feel if they lend him the money to buy something new they can rest a little easier.
I think it is good of them to offer and I imagine the lend part of the offer is given knowing he probably wont pay it all back.
At the end of the day Christo if it were me I would attempt to discuss the options of secondhand (decent) and see if they can be persuaded. If not and they are adamant on you having a chinese bike, then go for it
1. It gets you on the road (hopefully trouble free)
2. If it falls apart and turns out to be that pile of shyte, they can't put the blame on you Wink

Re: Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! What have I done to fucking deserve THIS?! - nick crisp - 01-01-14

Christo, if you absolutely have to buy Chinese, DO NOT BUY OFF THE INTERNET!!!! Go to a dealer with a workshop - at least that way you'll get some warranty/comeback if things go wrong, and spares back-up. On the internet, there are too many people who think they can make a quick buck from importing cheap crap; you buy the bike, and then there's no help when it all goes tits up.

If I were your parents I'd buy you a bus pass Smile

I'm not that thick!

The bike shop in Chatteris is a Lexmoto dealer, gonna see if I can test ride an Arrow 125.

Anyone know of a 200 to 400cc cheap new bike?

It's bad enough already, don't give them ideas!

Busses aren't very practical in Fenland, pubic transport, on the whole, sucks.

Fenland? You didn't used to have a scooter did you?!

Nope. Unless you count the 1971 Honda Amigo I rode round fields in France yonks ago!

I'm working in Cambridge for the year on internship, and living in Chatteris for the time being. That's the Fens link.
