Re: TRANSFORM HEADLIGHTS - darrsi - 25-12-13 Got the most fantastic Xmas tree in our street, huge lights, baubles, tinsel, the full works, shines like a good'un...........i'm not showing it to you though............if you wanna match it then you're more than welcome to give it a go. :lol :lol :lol Re: TRANSFORM HEADLIGHTS - Fazerider - 25-12-13 From the fuzzy images he's provided it looks like the LEDs are mounted next to the existing H4 and H1 bulbs. That suggests his reflectors may have been modified before he got hold of the bike since the standard reflectors don't have these rectangular holes he refers to. It also suggests the mod isn't likely to last very long… LEDs don't cope well with high temperatures. Mount them next to a 55w bulb and they'll be fried in a few hours.
That is most possible, yes, although I would prefer if if we used the official colour name for my bike: Vivid Red Cocktail. Yeah, that's right, I'm well hard! :lol Re: TRANSFORM HEADLIGHTS - limax2 - 25-12-13 (25-12-13, 10:59 AM)Fazerider link Wrote:That suggests his reflectors may have been modified before he got hold of the bike since the standard reflectors don't have these rectangular holes he refers to. I think the holes referred to are just in front of where the bulb retaining wire clips in place. About 9mm high and 7mm wide but with the 9mm sides curved a bit. As previously said the shield on the left hand side bulb partley covers the hole. In keeping with all good descriptions, a couple of photo's to illustrate the point ![]() [smg id=1488] [smg id=1489] Re: TRANSFORM HEADLIGHTS - Fazerider - 26-12-13 (25-12-13, 04:56 PM)limax2 link Wrote:
I think the holes referred to are just in front of where the bulb retaining wire clips in place.
I wondered if that might be it, and dismissed it as the bit that the clip hooks onto would be in the way, but perhaps you could jam a T10 in there. It's still going to get cooked by the incandescent bulb though. This is a forum designed to give people detailed help, and although you've taken the time to show us the end result, most people, especially ones very new to biking or with zero or very minimal hands on experience would've preferred to see some photo's of the fitment instead, but you seem to be avoiding questions by giving daft answers. :wall
Well here's a possible way to make Evolution wonder why why he/she bothered. Re: TRANSFORM HEADLIGHTS - pointer2null - 29-12-13 got bored when the fighting started, BUT interested in the mod. What is the beam pattern like (i.e. what shape is the light beam if pointed at a wall)? Reason for asking is to see if this would pass the MOT. (http://www.motuk.co.uk/mcmanual_160.htm) Re: TRANSFORM HEADLIGHTS - Farjo - 30-12-13 We don't know, the modder has gone leaving sparse details about the mod itself. Re: TRANSFORM HEADLIGHTS - Exupnut - 30-12-13 Well he was a given a bit of a hard time so its no surprise..... Re: TRANSFORM HEADLIGHTS - Farjo - 30-12-13 ...and he was verbally abusive in return, that was one of the posts that I cut. Is it a question of measuring the hole(s) and asking BMW what bulbs they have that fit? If there's a problem with temp then are there other main bulbs available that give off less heat? Re: TRANSFORM HEADLIGHTS - Fuzzy - 30-12-13 This mod is interesting and all, but since we lack more information I would say it's unlikely that a pair of LED bulbs are going to make a huge difference. As running lights they might be great but I don't think the headlight beam can be "transformed" in this way. I have a pair of these LED lights mounted on my bike and they are fantastic, but are substantial standalone units. Ok farjo....didnt see the cut posts. Why do i miss the juicy handbags at dawn posts? Maybee u could PM them. I could do with a laff today ;-) Re: TRANSFORM HEADLIGHTS - darrsi - 30-12-13 (30-12-13, 04:46 PM)Farjo link Wrote: ...and he was verbally abusive in return, that was one of the posts that I cut. I wondered why you stepped in when you did? Did i give him a hard time? That's certainly debatable, but it was like trying to get blood out of a stone. And the most annoying thing is that it probably IS the easiest mod going, but his social skills haven't allowed us to really find out 100%, which is a bit of a shame really. |
