Re: Just taken an mt09 for a spin. - stevierst - 12-10-13 Ride magazine think it's the best bike to come out of Japan since the R1 !! Re: Just taken an mt09 for a spin. - nick crisp - 12-10-13 But did they try it in all different scenarios? The biking press seem to have this habit of taking everything to their favourite areas and just ragging the arse off them, whilst Joe Public is going to have to live with them day in, day out, in all situations. Like I said before, I think it'd be great, as long as it doesn't have to be your only bike. I would wait until someone publishes a long term test and really uses the thing before deciding to buy. Re: Just taken an mt09 for a spin. - locksmith - 12-10-13 My mates got a MV Agusta Brutale 800 (wow that's a mouthful) and that has FBY throttle issues. He was having trouble in corners. Sometimes I'd catch him up very quickly mid corner. On it's first service it was given a factory ordered remap which has improved things and he's now got more used to it. So even loads of dosh bikes have these issues! Re: Just taken an mt09 for a spin. - nick crisp - 12-10-13 And yet there'll probably be a Power Commander that'll sort it before very long. So if the manufacturers of PCs can do it, why not Yamaha in the first place? I...........just.........don't.............understand............. :lol Re: Just taken an mt09 for a spin. - JoeRock - 12-10-13 Christ knows why they've put a mode selector on a 800cc bike that only makes 110hp, if you can't cope with that much then why buy the bike in the first place? I don't really get the point of them at all to be honest, even when I'm on a powerful bike in the rain i want the power to come in exactly as i tell it to with my wrist, not how some computer feels it should! That said, traction control I'm entirely in favour of :lol Re: Just taken an mt09 for a spin. - stevierst - 12-10-13 (12-10-13, 04:29 PM)JoeRock link Wrote: Christ knows why they've put a mode selector on a 800cc bike that only makes 110hp, if you can't cope with that much then why buy the bike in the first place? If you aint ridden it, dont knock it! The torque delivery in A mode is incredibly sharp power delivery no matter how careful you are! Not exactly what I would call safe if you ride in all weathers. B mode is very different, and ideal for wet/slippery conditions. And it's not really about the horsepower on this bike, it's all about the torque. Why are the Brits so obsessed with horsepower??? : ![]() Re: Just taken an mt09 for a spin. - Dead Eye - 12-10-13 Doesn't necessarily have to be all to do with horsepower - I'm sure at least one of the modes is designed for fuel economy... Re: Just taken an mt09 for a spin. - Phil - 13-10-13 The 3 modes give the same horsepower so I've read. It will be interesting to see the dyno charts for the 3 modes. Feedback from market research to Yamaha said riders wanted instant throttle response so they did just that. They even gave another 2 modes which isn't quite as instant. And what do some people do? Moan :lol Ride magazine has a 40 mile test route for MPG. The KTM 1200 Adventure bike did 55.8 mpg in sports mode, 48.5 mpg in rain mode. [/quote] That's the one! (age has crept upon me and stolen some of the rapidly depleting marbles):o:o:o:o Re: Just taken an mt09 for a spin. - nick crisp - 14-10-13 I guess overall, Yamaha have come up trumps with this bike, and as a bit of a Yamaha fan (think I've owned more Yams than any other make), I'm pleased for them. Reading back over all the posts (and threads!) on this, it's hardly surprising that we all look at it from the point of view of what we as individuals want from a bike. But I think if you can step back from that, read all the reports and write-ups so far, you'd have to admit they seem to have produced a top class machine. Another one for the dream garage - garage? I think by now I'd need an aircraft hangar! BUT NOT AS MY ONLY BIKE!! :lol Re: Just taken an mt09 for a spin. - JoeRock - 15-10-13 (12-10-13, 10:19 AM)nick crisp link Wrote: And yet there'll probably be a Power Commander that'll sort it before very long. So if the manufacturers of PCs can do it, why not Yamaha in the first place? It's emissions basically. Manfucturers have to run bikes both lean and with a huge amount of ignition advance as standard to get them through emissions tests, which makes bikes very jerky on and off throttle. Power commanders of course can ignore those tests and just get the bikes to run as they should do! Re: Just taken an mt09 for a spin. - locksmith - 15-10-13 Don't forget the full Akrapovic system for it ! Re: Just taken an mt09 for a spin. - nick crisp - 16-10-13 Interesting, and may help those who are seriously thinking about it..... http://www.cycleworld.com/2013/10/10/yamaha-fz-09-vs-triumph-street-triple-r-vs-mv-agusta-brutale-800-comparison-test-review-specs-photos/ Re: Just taken an mt09 for a spin. - stevierst - 16-10-13 If only I had a spare 6 1/2 grand spare! :-\ Re: Just taken an mt09 for a spin. - locksmith - 16-10-13 Thanks for that Nick, now I can't wait till next year I must buy one now.:lol Re: Just taken an mt09 for a spin. - nick crisp - 16-10-13 TBH, that write-up just makes me want all three..... :lol Re: Just taken an mt09 for a spin. - locksmith - 16-10-13 Well I've one mate with the Brutale and another with the Triumph so it's inevitable I HAVE to have the MT! Re: Just taken an mt09 for a spin. - nick crisp - 16-10-13 What a cracking idea! All I gotta do is find myself some friends each of whom owns a bike I'd like to have! Er, I'll start with finding myself some friends.............. :\ Re: Just taken an mt09 for a spin. - locksmith - 17-10-13 MCN have tested it against the same bikes. They say the yam and the mv are shit basically. How can two reviews from different sides of the Atlantic be so different. I've seen one private review on a YouTube test ride (British) and he said ignore what MCN say about the MT-09, they're lying :eek |
