Fz-09 2014 3 cylinder model.  Or maybe I'd get bugatti to design a one off for me.

Really a custom bike would be a no brainer, you'd be daft to go for something off the peg if you had an infinite budget and could get Ducati to design you something.

You've got a point there Simon. It'd be ace to walk into a bike shop with a big wad of cash and say "build me a bike".

sod that !
if i had a wad of cash, i'd buy the gear and do it myself !

Re: What Else Would You Have? - nick crisp - 16-07-13

But what kind of bike would you build? Let's stick to the rules I imposed on this thread for the moment, and say it's going to be your only bike - would you go sports/sports-tourer, adventure style, all-rounder?

Re: What Else Would You Have? - stevierst - 16-07-13

We all do that on here anyway, it just takes a while! Id get them to build me one from scratch just because I'm filthy rich. (we can only dream....)

would have to be a sports tourer type for me.
maybe something with a (slightly) lower seat height than the fazer and a nice big engine in it !
hmmmm......
wonder if i could put a jet engine in a fazer type frame  Wink

Re: What Else Would You Have? - red98 - 16-07-13

mmmmmmmm...tough one that.....always wanted to try a v twin for the torque....so only one choice....a ducati in RED  :lol

Pure sports bike, but with a 24L endurance tank, and some kind of brackety allowing hard luggage to be fitted!
I won't ever be going off road, and want the best from a bike in terms of it's engine, handling and brakes. To be honest, something like a K5 GSX-R1000 would probably suit me down to the ground, as I'd be after a bit of a midrange. That, combined with a bigger tank and hard luggage, and I'd have the perfect bike, able to do long distances with luggage and then hammer round the twisties when you get there. Until I hit about 40 at least, and can no longer ride one comfortably  :lol

Re: What Else Would You Have? - simonm - 16-07-13

Most people seem to be heading off in to highly predictable red Ducati territory :lol

I'd say it has to be a sports tourer of some sort if you have to use it every day.  I like Punkstig's direction, take a bike you like and bastardise (forgive the profanity, I think it's justified) it until it's what you want it to be.

The things you can't really change easily I suppose are engine size, fuel tank apart from that most of the aficionados seem to change the front forks/disc/suspension, the rear swing arms/suspension, the full monty.

I think that 600's are a nice sweet spot with fuel economy, speed and lightness, so a lightweight 2 or 3 cylinder 600cc sports tourer (I'm guessing 2-3 cylinders will be lighter than 4) with, beyond that, a shack of parts you can swap over will make it how you want, when you want.  With regard to tank size, 22 litres seems to be a nice compromise between size and capacity.

No one bike is perfect until you've changed it to how you want it :-P

Re: What Else Would You Have? - jon - 16-07-13

Recently found myself in this situation. My fazer is an ongoing project so I fancied a bike on the road for this weather. My commute is 8 miles of backroads, I am surrounded by fields and potholed roads and there are some nice sandy byways not far from me.... so I went out and bought a new crf250l!

It ticked all the boxes... light, fun, 90mpg, and 8k service intervals.not as highly strung as a mx based road bike, more of a dual sport. Probably the best bike I have owned overall, sure, no good for motorways (although it will do 90), but perfect for my needs and always gives me a big grin.

Me being me though, in its 700 miles of life it has been treated to a full yoshi system, 13/43 sprockets, airbox mods, braided hoses and an electronic jet kit!

What im saying is, there is probably no 'perfect' off the shelf bike. You have to take the best bike for your needs and make it your own.... now, big bore kit anyone? Lol

Finally, Super Mario enters conversation  :lol

Re: What Else Would You Have? - Loz - 16-07-13

Diaval or ZX1000SX If i win the lottery  :lol but then again if i do win i can have both  Wink

Re: What Else Would You Have? - FuZzBoM - 16-07-13

Always wanted  Ducati Monster. Diavel looks very nice but if I was spending my money it would probably be a Multistrada..

That being said the rumours of a naked BMW S1000RR would be worth a look. All that BHP in a nicer riding position for the more ample gentlemen  :lol

Re: What Else Would You Have? - Jacko - 16-07-13

BMW F800GT or a Versys

everyday usable bikes.  arrghh I want to shopping now..

Re: What Else Would You Have? - peterjca - 16-07-13

I'm lucky to have built up a pot of money, enough to clear off the mortgage (only got 2 years to run, so not much saving by early payoff). I have a strong urge to splash out on something bikey next Spring.

Current FZ1 could do with some TLC, suspension revamp, and possibly a bit of bling. All my bike gear needs renewing.

Thinking of another bike such as a Speed Triple (too similar to FZ1 I suspect) or Street Triple or perhaps something different such as a Tiger or KTM. Don't particularly want a sportsbike again other than as a "toy". Never ridden an adventure-type bike or supermoto. Tempted by something fun, usable, powerful and different for everyday use. Any suggestions?

Re: What Else Would You Have? - jon - 16-07-13

Supermoto every time! Had 'adventure' bikes and they aint that adventurous really, unless you want to keep dropping them in the sand and gravel. Too top heavy to pick up again. Go for a dual sport or supermoto for fun factor!

Re: What Else Would You Have? - notoriusb.e.n - 16-07-13

Blackbird - if I could find a mint example.

Re: What Else Would You Have? - chaz - 16-07-13

If there was a bike that was better than all others...................there would be only one bike

Re: What Else Would You Have? - nick crisp - 16-07-13

And that would be an FZS1000 gen 1.  Big Grin
