Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - Grahamm - 30-07-15

Got halfway through changing my sprockets and chain, but it turned out to be a hell of a lot more difficult than I'd expected!

Firstly it's a bugger of a job loosening the front sprocket nut with the tool Yamaha give you in the underseat kit, as there's barely enough clearance to get it in place, so you need to do a bit at the top between the frame and the gear linkage, then a bit underneath, then back to the top... (next time I'm going to buy a 32mm socket and a breaker bar!)

Then breaking the chain was a PITA as, for some reason the tool wouldn't push the pin right through, so eventually some wiggling with a flat-head screwdriver got it apart.

After that, getting the rear wheel off was also a bugger of a job as the axle wouldn't slide out easily (eventually I used the rubber mallet I normally use for tent pegs to bang it out!)

Then I had to look up a video on how to rejoin a chain because the instructions which came with the chain tool were incomprehensible and it took a long time before I was sure the joining link rivets were peened over enough so I kept checking with a set of calipers until the link was the same width as the other ones in the chain.

Finally I had to use the mallet again on the socket wrench to get the bolts on the rear sprocket to come loose, but then (as detailed elsewhere) I didn't know how to tighten the new ones sufficiently, and it was getting dark so I decided to call it a day at that point and finish off tomorrow!

Totally forgot to post this up the other day

My 600 has been off the road pending various amounts of work to get it back to a half-decent running state. Nearly 2 years after taking it off the road, I finally got the engine running again after stripping the carbs down again and using the thou to jump it to get enough power to run the starter long enough to get the bike started.

It was rather reluctant, but eventually started with no choke and no throttle - it seemed to really not like either of these when starting (can anyone elaborate as to why?)

In the spirit of the forums, here are a few photos and videos Big Grin

It's a lot more fun taking a chain apart wth an angle grinder you know  :lol

Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - Jazoli - 30-07-15

Serviced the exup valve, which meant drilling out the old snapped bolts, tapping new threads and removing the cable ties that had been used to take up the slack in the cables instead of the perfectly good adjusters, I hate buying used bikes at times. I have had to do this on nearly every Yamaha I have bought, at least I've got it down to a couple of hours now.

I don't doubt, alas I don't have one, only a Dremel which is ok for grinding the head of a rivet, but trying to cut the chain with it wasn't really going to happen Sad

Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - slappy - 30-07-15

Finally got around to fited the 2nd hand led rear light and clear indicator lenses.

Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - noggythenog - 30-07-15

Very nice Slappy

Are the indicators also i tegrated into th rear light then?

Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - slappy - 30-07-15

The led light does have indicators built in but as yet I have not wired them in, cannot decide whether to or not as they can only be seen from behind and not from the side which I understand is a possible mot fail.
I might do it and still keep the other indicators on as well but another thought that crossed my mind was the flash rate might alter with the led indicators plus the originals working through the same circuit.

126 mile round trip to Castlewood cafe, Uttoxeter, and back, from Wrexham, via Audlem, Eccleshall, Stone, to meet some friends for dinner. Velocette arrived as I was leaving.

Hairnet arre you saying 216kph =151mph or that was what the speedo was saying? 216 kph = 134 mph. looks as if you had a decent trip mind, shame you did not get decent weather all the way.

Then off down to Caerphilly:

Had a bit of a play around the Brecons:

And then stopped at Raglan Castle on the way back:

Weather was kind all day, not much traffic about (are you listening Skippernick?  :pokefun  :lol ), about 320 miles covered. Booked in for new Pilot Road 2s tomorrow afternoon - ancient, crappy BT021s ( :eek) that came on the bike will soon be nothing but a bad memory  Big Grin

Oh, and destroyed a Merc SL in a traffic light GP on the way home - think it's time I grew up  :b
