I was planning on getting it done after I got hold of a replacement fairing that was damaged when someone took me out on a roundabout last year. I phoned the workshop today and they said they would still be doing MOTs during Lockdown, but you'd have to drop it off and stand 2m away whilst they took it in, then mooch around for half an hour or more until they called you to pick it up again, at which point they would bring it back outside. However they also said that, if it wasn't urgent, call them again in December which is what I'll do. Re: Down the pub - the thread about nothing and everything - VNA - 03-11-20 Christ, a half wasted day. Having tried a couple of testers I’ve decided on the paint for the walls. I was in B&Q a week ago, there was plenty of paint and a 3 for 2 offer on Dulux – magic. Rather than drive to Paisley, which doesn’t take much longer than driving to my nearest B&Q, cos of COVID restrictions I drive to my nearest but smaller store in Port Glasgow. They don’t have my paint, out of stock. Two for three offer has ended. The assistant checks and says there is loads in Paisley. I drive to Paisley. None. Check the assistant, the stock figures ain’t reliable he says, I’ll check and phone for you. Naw says I, there’s a Dulux trade centre a couple of miles away I’ll get it there. Now I know unless you have an account they ain’t cheap. But I figure, with the retail stuff being 26 quid in B&Q, hey maybe I’ll get hit for 40 quid, but no more messing about I’ll have my paint. First my Tom Tom decides to go mad, takes me 5 to 10 minutes to get it to accept the post code – I was close to killing the thing. I get to the trade centre. 50 quid – are you kidding? 10 quid a litre? What? I try some charm – take it or leave it I’m told. Bet it is half the price with an account – so on principle I leave it. Maybe I am mad. So where now? The B&Q on Great Western Road is the biggest I know. Very little paint stock, but bingo I get what I’m after – 26 quid. But now I’m bustin for a pee. Customer toilets are closed for Covid19 they tell me – what do they want me to do – piss in their bathroom display? Which is a thought, all these big stores that had toilets but have now closed them, are just pushing customers into other stores purely to use the toilet, which really just helps increase the risk of spreading Covid. Doh! Should have been 20 miles for a tin of paint. 80 miles later I have my tin. Aaaaagh. Foc foc foc. Decorating slips even further behind schedule. Sorry head to get that off my chest. Jinxed by YamFazFan. :evil Re: Down the pub - the thread about nothing and everything - VNA - 03-11-20 Trump has repeatedly attacked the postal vote – but he offers no evidence of issues. Record numbers of people are registering to vote – for young voters it is often up by 500 to 1000% per state, compared to four years ago. Voting at the ballot box is a pain in the arse in the USA. If you wanna vote that way you might need to take the day off work. Americans get foc all annual leave. So postal ballot is now more popular than ever. By attacking the postal vote Trump is instructing his voters to go to the ballot box. So this is how it goes. Trump will win at the ballot box – just. Sleepy Joe will win on the postal ballot by a country mile. Trump will declare victory cos he says the postal vote is rigged. Ever wonder why Trump was so keen and in a big hurry to buy more influence at the supreme court? If I am right, it is gonna get wild. Could get scary wild. Trump is keen to be the first dictator of the USA. That’s me said my bit. No more. Re: Down the pub - the thread about nothing and everything - YamFazFan - 03-11-20 . I usually by my years supply of rubber gloves/cable ties etc at the Stafford bike shows, bit of banter and get a bit knocked off for cash. The gloves I normally buy I pay £4 a box. On sale now at £15 foccin quid. I will remember when the time comes around, all those who have exploited the situation, and trade accordingly Re: Down the pub - the thread about nothing and everything - robbo - 03-11-20 Dulux trade centres are the last place to go to buy Dulux paint ironically. A bloke in my local drives for Dulux. Someone in the pub asked him to get a gallon of paint, without asking the price, just imagining he’d save some money. Should of seen his face when the Dulux driver brought the paint into the pub and said the price was £62 :eek Priceless. Re: Down the pub - the thread about nothing and everything - VNA - 03-11-20 Quote:There's been some blatant profiteering.I know the trade paint is better stuff, but that is just their retail price. Bascially those trade centres, are trade centres, they don't want retail customers. I don't get it. That the sales assistent wouldn't tell me the trade price was kinda telling. I just don't get it, you'd think the store manager would have a wee fudge to drop a few quid off for retail punters. Cash flow is cash flow - a sale is a sale. 40 quid and I'd have taken it. Couldn't get my head round 10 quid a litre though. I remember building some heavy duty wood stores. And I wanted them to look good in the garden. Went into the new hardware supplier that had moved into town. Asked for a quote for my job lot. I almost fell over. I asked - is that the trade price? Are you trade they asked. Hey, OK but I'm not here for a tube of silcone or a paint brush, I'm after shit load of wood - I'd like the trade price please. They weren't interested. So I told em, I'm off to Jewson (they moved into the town to eat into the Jewson monopoly) and I'll egt the trade price there. So went to Jewson. They quoted me like 35% less. I asked is that trade price? Yup he said. Wow I said, looking shocked (and thinking yeah!) No messing about there, they threw in free delivery too to soften the blow. Not been back to the new place since. Don't like being taken for a mug. Re: Down the pub - the thread about nothing and everything - VNA - 03-11-20 Quote:Dulux trade centres are the last place to go to buy Dulux paint ironically. There's an independant paint retailer ten miles up the road from me. They are like an Indy Dulux Trade centre. I'll maybe try them next time. No idea what their prices will be like - can't be worse than Dulux. Re: Down the pub - the thread about nothing and everything - fazersharp - 03-11-20 I too can confirm that Dulux trade centres are the most expensive for paint. But (actual trade paint ) is more expensive because it has more pigment with the idea that it covers in one coat and as time is money it works out more economical for a painter and decorators to pay more for the trade paint. It also can be watered down very well when time is not an issue or watered down for the job at hand. Whenever I have been in the dulux trade centre they have always given me a trade price - maybe because I am not an argumentative arsehole. They gave me an empty - but plenty left for my use - a black pigment bottle that they use in the mixer machine so I was able to darken my own paint. Cheers I'll bear that in mind. Second time I've been in that one, last time I really was stuck and paid, but it was just for 2.5ltrs. I did wonder if I'm in the wrong Dulux Trade centre. Will try another, and phone before I roll up. Re: Down the pub - the thread about nothing and everything - VNA - 03-11-20 Talking of decorating. Remember those quality 3- or 4-inch heavy duty decorating brushes that were about half an inch thick that you used to get. Where do you get them these days? VNA’s mansion has tall ceilings and heavy 1930’s coving – I need a brush that holds loads of paint. The brush I’m using is over ten years old, but really, I need a new one. Everything in Screwfix, Toolstation and B&Q is kind of light weight. Won’t hold much paint. For the ceiling, get yourself a roller and extending handle. I did my girlfriend's room with one of those and it was dead easy! There was also a paint brush that would go on the extending handle, but I found it was easier to get up on a step ladder to do the coving than try to use the brush to do it. Most are now water based, dry too quickly, and despite claims regarding coverage, require two and sometines three coats to cover and leave a good even finish. For brushes, try Wilkos, ive found them good to use, and not expensive Re: Down the pub - the thread about nothing and everything - YamFazFan - 04-11-20 . |
