Pizza is round because traditionally you "spin" the dough to stretch it.
Boxes are square because they're easier to make that way.
It's cut in triangles because cutting across the diameter of a circle is the easiest way to divide it up evenly.
If you understand this, you'll understand how sexist (and ignorant) the original author of that was being...

It's a mathematical conundrum, involving creating a square that has the same area as a circle.
Since the area of a circle is measured by pi * r^2 and pi is an irrational number (it never ends) it's impossible to precisely measure the area of a circle.
It's a metaphor for other impossible tasks...
