Re: shorten after market end can - red98 - 16-06-19 Back off again..........two lines on the can , shortening either by 140mm or 74mm , 140mm is what I would like ,74mm would give me a can lenght of 380mm , which may be the shortest "road legal" length , so I think the best place to start... Cant find any BS mark on the can or "not for road use" ,only markings are on the "exit cap" but these look like model numbers to me and will be going back on...... Re: shorten after market end can - red98 - 16-06-19 Drilled the rivets using a 4mm drill . No problem , both end caps are an extremely snug fit with a small amount of sealent on them , lots of pulling , twisting and swearing and I managed to ease them out without any damage... was a bit of a struggle getting the end caps out so I might just go the whole hog and chop the 140mm off..... time for tea I think ![]() Re: shorten after market end can - red98 - 16-06-19 Chop, chop :eek Re: shorten after market end can - red98 - 16-06-19 Cut the centre tube down by the same amount and re-assembled , re-bored the end cap rivet holes and dug out my rivet gun only to find it jammed solid :\ ......too late on a sunday to go shopping and with both end caps a very nice snug fit i put it back on the bike......theres not a lot of difference with the baffle out , expected , with the standard length baffle in its a little bit louder but a lot more fruity :thumbup .......i might still shorten the baffle but its not going to need much taking out....happy with the way it looks apart from the colour....anyone wrapped a can before ? Re: shorten after market end can - Dudeofrude - 16-06-19 Looks loads better red, I did wonder why you didnt cut the purple end off though instead of the badged side Haha You would have ended up with a silver can with the scorpion badge still on it? But hindsight and all that Haha Wouldnt say you could vinyl wrap a pipe, it gets too hot? Maybe powder coating could possibly work? Re: shorten after market end can - red98 - 16-06-19 Hey dude , yeh I did umm and ahhhhh...if I cut the other end I would have had a slight discolouring at one end where the colour starts to fade in....might be able to scotch brite it perhaps.....mmmm powder coat might be good , want to get the wheels done soon so could throw the can in as well , still got the two riveted straps to put on , there going to be tight so might not work with the thickness of the powercoat......back to work tomorrow so plenty of thinking time ![]() Re: shorten after market end can - robbo - 16-06-19 You can get carbon sleeves, they had them on a stand at Peterborough last month, but they were circular not oval. Re: shorten after market end can - Dudeofrude - 16-06-19 This could be an option for you https://www.amazon.co.uk/Universal-Motorcycle-Exhaust-Silencer-Protector/dp/B07NVHKX4G I'm sure there are probably others about that are bigger or cheaper etc but just thinking the idea could work Re: shorten after market end can - red98 - 20-06-19 Bought a new rivit gun and fully assembled the can , one rivet pin has broken and jammed in the rivet , will replace that but not before a road test , thanks for the idea's DUDE + ROBBO , I'll leave it at it is for now but wiil go back to it at a later date , hope to have an extended test ride on sunday , but iam already thinking about cutting the baffle down or enlarging the holes... Re: shorten after market end can - Steve3351 - 20-06-19 That looks good...colour is fine :faz ![]() Re: shorten after market end can - Dudeofrude - 20-06-19 Looking good, personally I'd buy a newer scorpion badge for it and just give it a good once over with some metal polish then I'd say you've saved yourself a few hundred quid ? Also make sure your take it on a 30+ mile slog on the motorway before you decide to cut more baffle down. All pipes sound good on the back roads when your on and off the throttle but it's when your at the same rpm for miles on end that a loud can will drive you insane haha My brother in law bought a delkavic pipe for his versys 650 (twin) which was very loud but sounded the bollocks on start up and going round the twistes. After 2 days of riding to work and back on the motorway he took it off and asked me to sell it for him ?? Re: shorten after market end can - red98 - 24-06-19 Had a full day on the bike yesterday , little bit fruity low down without being too loud , thats with the baffle in , before I shortened it with the baffle out it made the idle lumpy / uneven , but then you had a rush at the top end , with it shortened there is just a hint of lumpyness on idle but soon smooths out to a nice even power delivery upto the red line , sorry wiltshire :lol dont think i'll bother playing with the baffle , happy with the way it is......for now ![]() |
