And to all those that think a loud pipe keeps you safer are wrong- as it points out the back. I have solved this problem like this.

Re: Put your baffles in - VNA - 12-06-19

It’s nice to have a bike, that well sounds like a bike.  But neither do I want to be seriously annoying anybody with my bike.  I’ve got retired neighbours too, who are usually still in their scratcher when I start the bike in the morning, but it’s not a problem, the EXUP valve keeps things sensible.  Yup towns and villages I keep to 30mph and keep it in 5[sup]th[/sup] or 6[sup]th[/sup].

I live in a seaside town, and there’s a regular bike meet down the front.  Basically any sunny day from spring to autumn.  But there’s all these dudes with Harleys now.  Loads of them are so loud they shake the buildings.  Oh and the de-catted superbikes – they seem to be pretty anti-social too noise wise.  I’ve talked to guys whose attitude is “the louder the better”.

I just think noise enforcement is now inevitable – too many people ripping the pish right oot it.

I just hope it’s not so tight it catches us all.

Noise enforcement won't be straightforward and simple to enforce. Different legal noise limits apply depending on the age of the motorcycle in question.

I'm pretty sure there isn't a specific limit at all for a lot of the older vintage/classic bikes, just a vague stipulation that it shouldn't be 'excessive', or some such term.

I can see this being contentious :rolleyes

....I guess the ANPR tech should in theory reference the allowable limit for individual bikes, but what happens if you're riding a standard 2019 bike amongst a load of Gold Star owners? :lol

That is a good point on the anpr tech.
When in the car depending on where the anpr cameras are in carparks I try to hang back if there is a big van infront that may obscure my plate when I leave because the next time I use the carpark I have had it ignore the "new " entry and then add the exit it has just seen to my original entry and log my car as being there for days rather than the 90min allowed.

Would you ride around with your thumb stuck on the horn button all the time?

No? Why not? If loud pipes make you safer, surely sounding a loud horn constantly will make you safer too...

Sounds stupid? You're right, it is. Maybe now you'll see the point.

The jobless, trackie wearing chavs with the baffle-less 125's do :rolleyes

Re: Put your baffles in - robbo - 13-06-19

I like my bikes to sound like bikes for my enjoyment, not from a "loud pipes saves lives" point of view. It's easy enough to roll through a village in a high gear so as not to piss off the locals.

Should this thread not read "Put your Baffy's on"

[/quote]What has gone wrong here is that robbo has fallen victim to the dreaded "quote bracket" mess up. I belive all robo posted was this
Blimey I've heard it all now, the Loud Pipes Police.
In responce to grahamm saying loud pipes do not make you safer. As far as I can see Grahamm is actually the only person to mention any reference to pipes and safety. (apart from me who used it as an excuse to repost a photoshop image that I made some time ago )
But in responce to this Blimey I've heard it all now, the Loud Pipes Police. This whole thread was started precisely because police are looking at introducing "acoustic cameras" to catch loud exhausts aka - Loud Pipes Police

It's either that or he's fallen victim to a misplaced condescending lecture Wink

Re: Put your baffles in - robbo - 13-06-19

Told you I was crap at technology :rollin :rollin . Just never thought I'd hear someone on a bike forum moan about the loudness of exhausts. I expect it's an age thing as I got into bikes when the Gold Star ruled the roost. A few of them would make Loomies sound like the local womens knitting circle's weekly get together. :lol

Re: Put your baffles in - Dudeofrude - 13-06-19

What I'd like to know is how these cameras would work on say a group ride when there are 10-12 bikes all grouped together and maybe 2 of them are running straight pipes... how would they narrow that down?
Also what DB would they be set to as (using cars as an example) a Ford focus is very quiet where as a Subaru Impreza is stupidly loud even though they if they are stock

My bike made 98db when it was last tested on a track day and that was at 4000rpm with the baffle in on a street legal pipe ?
