Not all self employed people work with VAT you have a choice to or not- until a certain turnover limit is reached and then you have to.

Unfortunately I cannot assist as I live in the republic of Ireland and not overly familiar with the UK social services. but believe me if I could I most certainly would. I know some on here will vouch for that.
However I do believe that anyone who pays vat and taxes should be entitled to something if they are sick. There are enough free loaders out there

My Ltd VAt registered company only pays me £12k, the Mrs £9.5k AND we have to pay N.I so luckily can claim when out of work. It's feckin tough living on £12k I can tell you (tight arse directors) :lol .

I have a separate business premises so claim fa vat back for anything at home.
Yet I have to pay (sorry collect) hmrc a shed load of £'s every quarter. And if I dont give it to them on time I get fined!
I also pay NI :b

I think I touched a bit of a nerve there with someone, he must be taking the full range of benefits on offer and jealous someone else is trying to get a look in, quick hide you family allowance books. follow follow the yellow brick road please master can I have a brain. :rollin

Yes but its on things that go towards the final end product in the end, as I am buying something with VAT added and turning it into something more valuable that the customer then pays the VAT on and I pay that (minus my VAT ) to the taxman. = unpaid tax collector
I buy a sheet of steel for £50 + VAT = an extra £10, which I will be claiming back I then bash it into the shape of a fazer mud guard and sell it to you for £200 + Vat = an extra £40. So at the end of the Quarter or whatever it is, I will be sending the tax man £30 = the £40 I got off you minus the £10 I had to pay for the sheet of steel.
