I might get mine powder coated -- but how much better is powder coating than smooth hamerite UNLESS you can send them your crabby old stand and THEY do all the cleaning too. Do they or do you have to clean it up (to a certain extent first ).
Do they do some sort of acid bath or shot blast first -- if so then sounds good

Re: Center Stand clean up... - anutz - 15-05-15

The only downside to the hammerie i find is that it takes the brushes you use to the grave.....never been able to clean them up

Re: Center Stand clean up... - anutz - 15-05-15

See my pic above of the underside of the bike and the mount points for the stand, should i put some hammerite on any bits there???

It would stop any more ingress of crap into any areas already flaking...?

Re: Center Stand clean up... - darrsi - 16-05-15

The centre stand just sits there and gets shit thrown at it constantly (if you ride in all weathers), so personally i'd stick with a good thick layer of Hammerite over powder coating any day.

Took mine off the bike and wiped the grease off, thats all, took it down to Stockton and picked it up two days later.
Romax have a great reputation in the North East, do a superb job on car alloys too. A friend is restoring a KR1S and had Romax do the frame, it's better than new.

Got the stand back on - was simple ONCE i figured out get one bolt in and then use that and a little force to line up the second against the spring tension

Looking good, starting to look like a bike again, a clean one at that too :thumbup

Re: Center Stand clean up... - mickvp - 16-05-15

Looks good Smile

I'll need to do both my stands soon too, they are getting some surface rust. I'll be going down the hammerite route as well, powder coating is a nicer finish, but hammerite is a bit more durable imo, and I can touch it up quickly if it chips or anything.

Re: Center Stand clean up... - anutz - 16-05-15

yep!

Regards touch up - yes!!!

I already took a few chips out of it when re-fitting - i defy anyone not to!

So for me now i can just re-touch those bits up as needed, i also applied some hammerite to the lugs on the frame so they don't rust.....

Smile

Re: Center Stand clean up... - anutz - 16-05-15

oh also i stuck the screws and bolts and the spring in some cherry coke to help clean them up a little bit........then copper greased the threads

I would do it if your taking your fairing off as you are doing as it'll be exposed more to the elements Sad
But save yourself buying a brush (just being Scottish here :lol) and just undo that bolt in the middle and the top bit comes off, then you'll get right into it with your bigger brush Smile

Re: Center Stand clean up... - anutz - 16-05-15

good point - i need to get a little brush for that so will see what i can find....
