I have sat one one (mt09) and just by sitting on it  seems lighter than my FZS 600. Isnt the mt 09 called a FZ 09 in the states and as it sounds like the perfect all rounder like our beloved fzs 600 shouldnt we have a section on the forum for it

think its a FJ 09 in the states ? bloody septics carnt help themselves from changing bloody names of things- football/soccer,boot/trunk, rugby/american football, rounders/baseball etc  Wink

and im in the process of organishing myself a test ride on the Tracer from Fowlers in brizzle.lack of time before march is reigning things in for me which is truly annoying as im keen to get my leg over the beastie  :b

where did you get the test ride from mate? Fowlers bike isnt even in store yet,let alone built and up for test riding  :wall

I saw the front end of one in Pheonix today as i passed in Trowbridge.

Re: mt-09 tracer - Dave48 - 03-02-15

Can see where Yamaha are going with the Tracer since the MT09 is a naked bike with small (14 Litre ) tank.
The Tracer should "reel in" customers wanting some wind/weather protection and ability to tour without constantly worrying about fuel light coming on.
All the Fazers & FZ models of thou & 800 are missing from the new Yamaha catalogue so presumably discontinued ?

Good timing, as next year the FZS1000 will be a classic by VJMC rules  Big Grin

Re: mt-09 tracer - lew600fazer - 03-02-15

I reckon Yamaha have read the market right. They have been there and done that with the Gen 1 & 2 then along came the Z1000SX in late 2010, the SX is a belting bike no doubt about it. FZ1 lost it's market share so what do Yamaha need to do. Build something that is around £1800 cheaper, make it into a lower powered do it all adventure/sports/tourer. The big Versy is a belter, the new Mk2 SX is a belter. The MT-09 Tracer is well priced and should catch some of those who are replacing the early SX models. I know a couple from the SX forum have gone down this route. Also honda are not replacing the CBF 1000 Mk2 so will catch some from that group as well.

Re: mt-09 tracer - Fazafou - 04-02-15

I test rode a Z1000SX before buying the FZ1.

Was a nice bike, but the one I rode had vibration through the bars and didn't give me the thrill the fax did.

Re: mt-09 tracer - FuZzBoM - 04-02-15

How tall are you guys who have ridden the Tracer? I am 6'3 and when I sat on it at the NEC I thought it was a bit cramped..
Could I consider parting with my Gen 1? lol

I had an sx for nearly 3 years loved it and changing the front sprocket helped the vibs. No centre stand peed me off and it just seemed to be getting to heavy for me. The longer I have the FZ1 the more I like it and the fazer is a more comfortable bike, it handles better and the fuelling is better, fuel consumption is poor on the FZ1 compared to the SX

Re: mt-09 tracer - Shiny_ShoesYZF - 05-02-15

Maybe,  but that's just a good excuse to your partner as to why you NEED the optional Akrapovič....

Yep, the seat height is dropped by 32mm with the low seat (2PP247C01000) and the suspension link (2PPF538P0000) drops it a further 15mm .

Re: mt-09 tracer - Billy Balthorpe - 05-02-15

I really like this bike. Having recently had my first TDM 850 (post 96 with the 270 degree crank) last year, and then selling it last October because it was a little underpowered, the Tracer with its healthy output and similar stance rang my "I want it" bell.

Its just a shame I cant justify spending £8K on a bike, just to watch it shed value by the minute. I'd rather wait till the cash moulting effect has been suffered by another owner and the price has come down to a point where, if the wife found out how much I paid, I wouldn't have to answer the question "What the bloody hell did you think you were doing spending £8K of our money on a bloody bike? You dickhead!".

Re: mt-09 tracer - acid drop - 06-02-15

Ok, this morning my Yammy dealer phoned and said I have a low seat for the 09 tracer, do you want a test ride yes says I so I took the tracer out for a 10 mile jaunt and did not like it at all it did not feel as if I was in control , told the dealer I thought the bike was crap, oh dear he said would you like to try the 09 naked version ok says I, well a mile up the road this bike felt great so I continued for 20 miles and returned to the dealer with a big smile on my face , after a bit of a haggle I have ordered a new MT 09 naked and got a good part ex for my 08 Fazer which I've had from new , so in march I will have a 15 plate 09 in time for some summer fun.

Re: mt-09 tracer - stevierst - 09-02-15

Just had a go on the tracer, and it really is a good bike!

However.........

That screen is absolutely useless! What were Yamaha thinking? An £8k bike with a £10 screen.
The chassis is good, the engine is an absolute gem, and its oddly comfortable with the sculptured seat.
It's a bit like a cross between a Fazer 600 and a Tdm. Bags of instant torque, but it revs like a 600/4!!! It feels like it's definately more powerful than 115bhp.

If it was my 'only bike' then I'd probably have one. If I was after a pure fun machine, then I'd have the naked MT-09.

Is it poor compared to Fazer 600? I wonder if there are / will be bigger / wider versions!

Re: mt-09 tracer - stevierst - 09-02-15

Spoke to the sales bloke, and Thee is a Yamaha taller screen, but tbh, it needs a lower one for clean air.

I'm sure it won't be long before aftermarket stuff comes out.

Re: mt-09 tracer - pilgo - 09-02-15

went to Fowlers in Bristol yesterday to view the Tracer,im seriously tempted to get one,my only concern is the width of the handlebars as its bloody tight enough getting the Fazer 600 round the back of my place to my flat through 2 gates. even if i had the gimmicky handgaurds removed it'll be tight  so might have to 'relocate' both sets of gates to make more room, which is a bit cheeky cos i rent but my landlord is pretty chilled so i dont see him worrying to much if i pay to re jig the gates a tad.

does anyone know the width of the standard bars on my 01 Fazer ?
