My fellow blood bikers run a charity , or rather support a charity. I'm going to swear now....and be deliberately controversial ... Riding at high speed on the wrong side of the road, causing a head on collision, AND i just read elsewhere they were also going the wrong way round a roundabout beforehand!!! Maybe these "idiots" who treat the road like a "racetrack" need some sort of training...........oh...........wait a minute. :rolleyes http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2752691/Harry-crash-drama-Prince-s-shock-motorobike-outrider-smashes-head-taxi.html Fortunately nobody was seriously injured. Re: Think my engine is going to die :( - Paulfzs - 12-09-14 I wasn't really going to post about the speeds but i might aswell, ive been riding for a fair few years now and ive owned sports bikes up to 1.1 litre, ive had my fun with the throttle and i very rarely do it anymore, as Wednesday was bike night and i was on a dual carriageway i thought heck why not, ive done less than 400 miles since owning this bike and ive not been over 75-80. The conditions where good, the road was clear other than about 5-6 cars which id filtered past and there wasn't a school near by, id say that is fair game for a bit of throttle fun, backed up by the other motorcyclist wanting to race me. i have been on the track on various other bikes but not this one mainly because i can't afford it right now after spending so much on my bike to make it look good. Now this was a fairly straight road with 2 roundabouts on it and no traffic on both of them, not that i was speeding through them anyway, i do indeed go out and get my knee down and pull wheelies, the wheelies are always on private land and the knee downs i do on an old unused roundabout, in terms of being a fool on a bike id say i act a fool when its safe to rather than those ive seen trying to kill themselves. None the less my engine is broken so call it karma and you don't need to say anymore about it. Re: Think my engine is going to die :( - Paul - 12-09-14 I don't whether this is possible, but I wonder if you can get the sump off without taking the engine out. That may allow you to check for crank and big end play. Re: Think my engine is going to die :( - His Dudeness - 12-09-14 Don't think you need to justify yourself to anyone. We're all adults here well most of us Re: Think my engine is going to die :( - Fazerider - 12-09-14 (12-09-14, 12:10 PM)Paul link Wrote: I don't whether this is possible, but I wonder if you can get the sump off without taking the engine out.It is possible to take the sump off with the engine in-situ, but it may not help diagnosis... this is the view you'll have: ![]() ... access to the big ends is pretty limited! Re: Think my engine is going to die :( - Paulfzs - 12-09-14 put old oil back in to start it up, didnt see the point in putting new oil in to find the sound then draining it again after, it appears to of dissapeared.. even up to 8000rpm drained oil put new oil and it sounds tons better, need to get out and give it a propper ride though.. i did notice something odd.. My speedo appears to have tourrettes , turned it on and it went to 40mph then to 0 then whenever i start it it seems to go up between 0 and 40mph.. it stopped doing it on the final 2 tries but it may do it again Any ideas? http://youtu.be/mtl_tiWGFik Re: Think my engine is going to die :( - Paulfzs - 12-09-14 Yeah it does rattle a bit when its cold then pretty much gone when warm, cant ge tthe plugs out as i dont have the right socket Re: Think my engine is going to die :( - Paul - 12-09-14 To PaulFZS Mine rattles when cold and then tends to quieten down. First noticed it when it had done around 50,000 - 60,000 miles. It's still rattling when cold, but now it's done 77,000 miles, but it still pulls and runs well. I reckon it's a bit down on power from new, and it does use some oil, but not that much. Maybe the noise you're hearing isn't a terminal issue. From my experience Fazer motors are quite durable. Re: Think my engine is going to die :( - unfazed - 12-09-14 PaulFZS Are you sure you did not pop a hole in the down pipes, they can make some really funny sounds ![]() Re: Think my engine is going to die :( - Paulfzs - 13-09-14 Dont think its that pretty sure it was inside the engine, sounded like my zxr 750 did when the oil drained itself. Sounded mechanical Re: Think my engine is going to die :( - Paulfzs - 14-09-14 Started my bike up and stuck my ear on the clutch case and it sounds to be coming from the clutch.. although ive just remembered i forgot to try it with the clutch in. Would've thought similar on the 6? Actually, on the thou, it'd be the rev counter giving a code, but still...?
Same as the 600, the rev counter gives the fault codes, mainly for speedo sensor or TPS. All clutches rattle a bit some more than others that's normal. But normally they don't all of a sudden start rattling at certain revs Re: Think my engine is going to die :( - Paulfzs - 15-09-14 Ok so took bike out for a small ride about 5 miles.. was running fine untill it got mid hot then it would rattle at 4k under hard acceleration.. on the way back it was super hot and would struggle to hit 60mph and started to rattle constantly.. Pulled over for a quick video. http://youtu.be/Vw-aHbNLA88 Re: Think my engine is going to die :( - unfazed - 15-09-14 That certainly is not normal and does not sound good. For starters, put bike on the side stand, remove the clutch cover and have a good look inside. Last rattle I heard similar to that was after a fellow replaced the clutch and stripped one of the clutch bolts. I certainly would not be driving it again until I find the problem. Was the bike ever dropped? Re: Think my engine is going to die :( - Paulfzs - 16-09-14 (15-09-14, 09:50 PM)unfazed link Wrote: That certainly is not normal and does not sound good. Bikes not been dropped that i know of and no signs of any damage from being dropped, all engine castings and fairings in good condition, crash bars look fine. not sure how i could strip a clutch bolt whilst riding. and it only happens when warm then hot. Re: Think my engine is going to die :( - unfazed - 16-09-14 Not saying it is, but just a comment on the last time I heard a sound like that something was broken inside the engine. I have seen clutch bolts fall out and strip some time after the work was done because of hamfisted assembly. Was there any work done on the engine recently other than the oil change? If it struggles to get up speed it sounds like something is tighting within the engine and the only thing I have seen to do it was a dodgy shell bearing. I would strip the clutch, remove the sump and cam cover as a first line of checks. Re: Think my engine is going to die :( - Paulfzs - 16-09-14 Damn bikes ![]() |
