Ditto! Pretty funky, mad, never seen it flyby before.

So how come it started off really bright in the West, but as it went over to the East, it just faded away and seemingly disappeared mid way over?!

There is no lights on it , its just the angle of the sun shining on it, ask Noggy , he knows everything

I see, that makes sense. I guess in the West it catches the sun, but as it goes round it must sink behind the Earth's shadow.

Re: International Spacestation flyover - Wade90 - 14-04-14

I saw it too!  Certainly very bright and very fast!

Re: International Spacestation flyover - taylor - 14-04-14

Yes, it went into the shadow of the earth. Smile
The moon will be doing the same later (unfortunately after it's set from the UK's point of view, those in the Americas will get the show this time).

In the same sky huh? foccin hope so, don't want to have to travel to Mars to see it  :rolleyes

Re: International Spacestation flyover - VNA - 15-04-14

Yup I saw it.  Popped outside at 21:02.  Shot across the sky and was out of sight five minutes later.

I gave em a wave, hope they saw me.

Re: International Spacestation flyover - VNA - 15-04-14

You should be able to see it again at 22:38 but for only up to 3 minutes.

Above the Black Sea as I type this - http://iss.astroviewer.net/

They wanna slow down a bit.  Current speed 17138mph!

Re: International Spacestation flyover - Exupnut - 15-04-14

Saw it. Very cool.

Re: International Spacestation flyover - Phil - 15-04-14

Dorset Safety Camera team wanted to give a ticket for speeding. Guess it has to go that fast to keep up momentum to stop it falling out of the sky?

Re: International Spacestation flyover - Kosmic Kartman - 15-04-14

Me the Mrs and my Little-un where out satellite and space station gazing tonight. We spotted four satellites and one space station. My daughter asked why there were so many satellites in the sky... Mostly for communication but I also explained about all the space junk out there as well and showed her this before she went to bed.

http://spectrevision.net/2014/02/07/trawling-for-space-junk/

She was horrified at, not only, all the rubbish that is left in the overflow carpark at Legoland but at all the shite we've left in space.

A pic of this evening's 9pm pass:

It's only a 15 second exposure, hence the short track... and I wasn't that confident of my aim, hence the wide angle.

If you can't make it out, here's the full resolution of the relevant bit...

Re: International Spacestation flyover - Fazerider - 15-04-14

45 minutes later there was an Iridium flare which I shot from the satellite platform you can see in the above photo.
It only lasts a few seconds and I had a two second delay on the camera to stop wobble so missed the start, but they're impressively bright if you're close to the centre of the track.
