Re: H.U.D. - fazersharp - 23-01-14 You are right on the 30 -34 thing I'm not trying to say I know my speed to the exact 1mph but close enough, and yes that 30-34 can be too close to call solely with spidersense alone. So I have a small strip of red insulating tape on the 30 mark which makes it easy to see in your peripheral. Most of us don't need one -that's why they aren't a standard part of a bikes equipment -unless you own a (1978 GSX400) In fact, all of us don't really need one I reckon. I can perhaps imagine a need for a light to indicate when you are in top gear -if you really must wring top speed out of your sportsbike and are very worried you arn't in the highest gear, but i can't see why anyone really needs to know what gear they are in otherwise. Re: H.U.D. - Mattsplat - 23-01-14 Im constantly going for 7th... Re: H.U.D. - Dead Eye - 23-01-14 That's usually how I know I'm in 6th :lol In reality though I know that 4k rpm in 6th is 60mph on the thou so that's my basis. If I'm not looking then I will usually try for 7th ![]() Re: H.U.D. - richfzs - 23-01-14 Try riding a pan European - in their wisdom, Honda blessed the thing with only 5 gears! If I am in town I check my speedo. If I am on open roads I ride the bike. Knowing if I am in 4th or 5th is irrelevant and knowing if I am going 50 or 90 isn't important. Knowing that I am going at the right speed for the corner is what I am looking for and that the engine is spinning enough to get the rush out is important. Neither of these involve speedos or gear indictor, just feel. Ask me how fast I have been down the Chelveston bends or what gear I was I wouldn't know cos there are a lot more important things to think about, or watch out for, than a set of gauges Re: H.U.D. - Dead Eye - 23-01-14 I agree with all of the above |
