Re: Help me choose new gloves - fazersharp - 24-08-13 Thank you for your crash test Nog, that is very good info --- could you do another one for me in alpinestars gp pro please-- and a bit faster Cant see the palms tho in your pic Re: Help me choose new gloves - mickvp - 24-08-13 (24-08-13, 01:31 PM)noggythenog link Wrote: These above £50 Richa gloves took a 40mph test on Tuesday, the knuckles took a scrape but i dont have any pain from that part, did the trick.Just. thats why knox handroids are good, they have "sliders" on the palms to help stop with that automatic reaction of sticking your hands down in an off (at least thats what the blurb says) - I just like the fact that they were designedby guys who ride bikes and not some designer sat at a computer trying to think what will bring good protection. shame I cant afford them (but they are well within the OP's criteria at ~£140-150 :lol Re: Help me choose new gloves - fazersharp - 24-08-13 I have seen a review although from the mk 1 handroid version where the cobra dial got pushed through the glove and into the riders fore arm and another one where one of the finger bars snaped and sliced into the finger. Re: Help me choose new gloves - Phil - 24-08-13 The August edition of Ride magazine had a test on summer gloves. They did abrasion and impact testing which its difficult to do yourself in the shop without them getting a little miffed. Their comfort/ease of use/can you pull them off results are all personel results as peoples hand size/shape varies so much. I bought Bering Gant RX19 which scored top marks for abrasion and impact but poorly elsewhere in their test. Their tester could pull them off when done up. I find them very comfortable, no issues with internal seems being uncomfortable like they had or being able to pull them off. They have vents on the top of the first 2 fingers which lets air gush in when I straighten my fingers. The following gloves scored 5/5 for abrasion & impact testing: Arc-on Competizione £140 www.arc-on.co.uk Held Titan £230 www.held.de Held RS1000 £165 Ixon RS Moto £90 www.ixon.com Ixon RS ProHP £160 Racer High racer £150 www.tranam.co.uk Bering Gant RX19 £110 www.bering.fr These had slightly lesser scores for abrasion & impact testing Alpinestars GP Pro £150 4 & 5 Knox Handroid £160 5 & 4 Weise WDG Daytone £70 4 & 5 Weise Vortex WVG £90 4 & 5 Rev-it Jerez £200 4 & 5 Re: Help me choose new gloves - noggythenog - 24-08-13 Nice on phil, Handy little guide there. Im gonna take at look at the £70 quid ones now. Cheers Re: Help me choose new gloves - noggythenog - 25-08-13 Ive got a bit of a question about winter gloves.ive only ever had summer gloves. Do winter gloves tend to offer a bit more abrasion resistance??? I liked my summer gloves & i don't really ride in the crap winter weather but there was still some nice weather in october that proved too cold for the gloves, especially with the air vents. But if theres a warmer glove out there that also offers better protection than a summer glove then i dont care if i get sweaty hands in the summer. Any ideas? Re: Help me choose new gloves - fazersharp - 26-08-13 I dont think that winter gloves as a whole have better protection at all, as do they not spend all their time adding insulation and there dosent seem that there is any room left for protection. My winter gloves (pic) I liked as they look like they offer some protection and I would say that they give an extra 1/2 hour before I start to feel the cold. They are thicker and I do not like riding in them and long for the wether to wear my summers again Re: Help me choose new gloves - Tmation - 26-08-13 If you have that amount to spend, get some made to measure. You could get venting, armour cuff type to suit. Loads of firms make them, google is your friend. Re: Help me choose new gloves - noggythenog - 26-08-13 Well i just got a set of brand new Furygan Jet Evo summer gloves for 30 quid delivered via ebay, at least theyll go with my furygan leathers which have proved very tough so far. ![]() Re: Help me choose new gloves - fazersharp - 26-08-13 Now I have been doing a lot of reading up and reading reviews I think I will be finding somwhere to try on the Alpinestars gp pro -1st choice and the handroid. Phil - thank you for the ride results, i am now trying to find the full ride review of all the gloves, I wonder it the gp pros were the new 2013 version. On reading up on gloves I can now see how rubbish mine are, if you look at my pic and see the black palm double layer leather over the white, with yellow triangle sticthing----- WRONG it is not a double layer as it is designed to make you think, the white ends and then the black starts - it is only 1 layer W.T.F . So what else is going to be crap on these gloves, ive been risking my hands in these Re: Help me choose new gloves - Frosties - 27-08-13 (26-08-13, 08:39 PM)noggythenog link Wrote: Well i just got a set of brand new Furygan Jet Evo summer gloves for 30 quid delivered via ebay, at least theyll go with my furygan leathers which have proved very tough so far. I have gone for the GP pros 2013 model. I went to MCA Leicester and they were great I tried on the med then the Large about 10 times - sat on my bike with them everything and convinced myself that I should go for the tighter M so they can bed in. And I think it was astep too far my palms are not big but my fingers are long and were stuffed to the ends, my thumb got pins and needles, the armour in the pinky dug in to my knuckles and the wrist strap was more on the bottom of the hand rather than around the wrist. The issue was that the large felt perfect from the start but everything I read said get a tighter fit and they will stretch. The good news is that I got them exchanged at MCA and cannot thank them enough, I now have the large and they fit perfect, still need bedding in here and there. I'm thinking that yes leather will stretch but only if it is being stretched by hands too big for them. I did not quite know how I would get on with the last 2 fingers being stitched together but I 100% do not notice it as they are separated by 1/2 inch of leather and just upto the knuckle. I never thought about it before but I actually only use 1 finger to brake, all four are on the leaver but im only using the middle one most of the time unless I really need extra and then the others join in. Yes, leather will stretch, but only by a limited amount. If the gloves aren't at least reasonably comfortable without stretching, they're probably too tight. Provided the large gloves aren't baggy when they're on, they should be fine. |
