Present Fazer has disc holder attached to front brake hose guide bracket. Have never come across a waterproof holder yet-every tax disc becomes wet then dries out gradually losing legibility until its time to buy a new one-don't get me started on the cost of bike tax!!! :'(

Why, what's wrong with the cost of bike tax? :pokefun :evil

Well my tax disc got inspected today.  Plod wasn't that keen on the holder.  Can you pop it out.  Sure I replied if you have an allen key.  I pointed out that the date, the bar code and the bike details were all on display and he seemed happy.

Had popped up to Falkirk to get my valve clearances checked.  29,000 miles and all in tolerance.
Killed 4 hours in Falkirk, then picked up the bike and decided to head to Callander for a fish supper (Mhor Fish do a top notch fish supper).

So missed a turn somewhere and ended up heading through, instead of past, Stirling.  Slipped past a police van with a bit of late braking at the traffic lights, made sure it was a neat move, plenty of room and that he wouldn't have to brake hard or anything.  You know as you do, and I don't like sitting behind vans, any van.

So a few hundred yards up the road, I fluff the roundabout, I'm a bit lost and make a late lunge for an exit after a good look over my shoulder at following plod.  So he pulled me.  Fair enougth I thought.  I apologised profusely for the late move on the roundabout, though pointing out that I did have a good look before moving over, but really I should have gone round again.  Sorry officer .

But he wasn't bothered about that, he wasn't happy that I undertook him.  What?  That's not undertaking officer!    So it all got a bit confusing.  Anyway I quickly decided to see things his way, he checked all my details over the radio (no more tickets to hand your docs in?) and I was on my way.

But I figured he wouldn't have been happy if my disc wasn't on display, and that would have actually given him something to give me a ticket for.

And the police?  Well they looked to me as they they should have still been at school!

You never know if you're going to meet a copper who's going to enforce to the letter of the law. DVLA only say that you should display your tax disc on the kerb side (ie l/h side) of the motorcycle. I sympathise with those who say, yeah but it'll get nicked. Unfortunately, Mr. Plod won't necessarily sympathise.

Re: TAX DISC - Where do you put it? - nick crisp - 05-08-13

But where does it say you do not have to display your tax?

Re: TAX DISC - Where do you put it? - Doddsie - 06-08-13

Maximum fine for `FAILING TO DISPLAY`  a current tax disc is £200!!

Re: TAX DISC - Where do you put it? - bludclot - 07-08-13

seriously now, all this worrying about a tax disc being stolen doesn't wash. i bet there's only a tiny number that are actually stolen from motorcycles and should it happen and the bike owner takes the proper steps of reporting and re-applying then there's no monetry cost involved.

there's so many more parts on a motorcycle that have a real market value that are easily stolen, tasty end cans for example. and yet there's no threads on forums saying that owners take their end can with them every time they leave the bike near an inner city shopping centre....

and if the bike is used all year round then wrap the disc in a bit of cling film before placing in the holder and attaching to the bike, simple.

for what it's worth mine is attached to one of the radiator trim bolts on the near side of the bike, all proper like.

The best place to fit tax disc holder on the fazer thou I find is  :rolleyes
On the left hand side inside the cockpit , there are two bolts that hold the subframe for the fairing to the frame in front of headstock. If you remove the top bolt(Allen headed) a flat normal tax disc holder will nestle in there.
Its visible without looking crap on the bike and out the weather, harder to nick. I use an Ali one that has to be bolted together when you change your tax disc. Smile

Re: TAX DISC - Where do you put it? - AdieR - 07-08-13

Mine's mounted on the swingarm / chainguard (one of those screw together with Allen screw types and never had water in yet.

Bludclot: " i bet there's only a tiny number that are actually stolen from motorcycles and should it happen and the bike owner takes the proper steps of reporting and re-applying then there's no monetry cost involved." - I had a tax disc stolen some years ago from a cheap runaround 'ped during my L-plate days (annual tax £15), replacement disc £7 (about 6 months worth of tax, my tax at that point had between 2 and 3 months left on it).

Tax disc thieves aren't your "typical" thieves looking to cash in (hence why they don't nick tasty Yoshi cans), they'll stick it on an untaxed vehicle (so that from a distance, the untaxed vehicle "looks" like it's taxed because it has a disc (and such vehicles are likely uninsured or without MoT).

I just paid my tax for another 12 months, it took DVLA about 5 seconds to verify the bike's insurance / MoT details (those who don't pay tax thus won't know how quickly these details are checked).

Why nick a £15 tax disc to make it look like you have tax? You can print one off the internet for nothing with no risk of getting done for theft if you get caught nicking it!!!

A tax disk is easier to nick than a computer and printer  Wink

If its nickable and sellable for a few quid, they'll nick it!
