I forgot to mention Darrsi, even when i had my TPS fault code my bike was running fine, yes a slight flat spot in the rev range but nothing that would slow me down on a Motorway. Its been 3 days since i've replaced my TPS and the bike is running perfectly fine, no fault code, no nothing. I really don't think you have fault clocks buddy.

Does seem a bit of a coincidence about the jet washing though, i did give it a good blast trying to degrease the engine, and as it only showed the 0rpm on the clock this morning it's all a bit random, especially as Yamaha HQ said that 0rpm is not an error code on it's own.
It was my electronics engineer at work that suggested i may have water or condensation in my wiring somewhere that could be causing things to misbehave.
As the bike appears to be running okay at the moment i will try and get the bike up to temperature for a while and see if it helps at all?
It's offputting though as i can't keep my eyes off the rev counter, wondering what it'll do next.
Also i set the TPS to 5000rpm okay so in theory that should be alright.

when i was running my old TPS and it turned faulty when i was riding and rolled off the throttle it would go straight down to 0rpm for 3 seconds but then go back up to 3k. take it for a good ride in dry weather ( a bit hard in the UK at the moment i know) and just see what goes on next mate.

That was the puzzling thing, it doesn't go to the 3000 point, very strange?
Looks like i'm about to get pissed on as well, the sky is very dark outside, so that ain't gonna help matters either!

I just bought a fazer 600 v reg and it didn't have a tps just a smashed casing, found 1 on bike hut for £38!!!! fitted yesterday and guessed how to set it, runs ok I think, shame my carbs are dripping coolant :rolleyes

Tighten all the clips around the thermostat housing underneath the front part of the fuel tank, and top it up with coolant while your there!

I just checked and bikehut have another TPS for sale.
The thermostat on my bike doesnt appear to be the correct one as thew wiring pins dont go anywhere, square male pin and round female :o , so mine might be overheating?? going to try to redirect the water pipes away from the carbs to stop leak.

Took the bike out for a long run to get the engine up to maximum temperature, and as it was also very windy i thought it may also help if there was any condensation in the loom or wiring.
Kept my eye on the rev counter as much as possible and as far as i could tell i never saw it misbehave once.
'Marvellous' i thought, problem sorted!
Then, on the way to work this morning, the rev needle dropped to 0rpm about 12 times, then back up to normal speed again.
It doesn't go to 3000rpm at all, which would indicate TPS problems.
And if i unplug the TPS then plug it back in, it goes straight to 5000rpm, also indicating no TPS issues.
My head hurts now, has anyone got any other ideas at all what could be going on? :'(

Anything else electrical stop at the same time? Headlights would be the main thing I'm thinking of, that and warning lights (wouldn't be the speedo I don't think as that's mechanically driven.

Speedo is still electrical, hence wires, not cogs.
I've ordered a used TPS for starters, got home last night and bike was running slightly jerky at lower revs, and when i did a diagnostic check it went to 10k again, even though i set it to 5k a few days ago.
And just to rub my nose in it, the needle has dropped clockwise again so that it's underneath the stop pin.
Must remember to turn the engine on, rather than switch ignition off when it's at the 10k position!

is it actually affecting your ride? If not.... ignore it? Put on a acoustic tacho?

Yeah it did today, the bike was very jittery to and from work.
I've just sorted the needle in the clock out and reset the TPS to 5k again so hopefully it should ride a little better.
There's no way i could ignore the rev counter needle bouncing all over the place, that would send me mental.
I'll get the other TPS i ordered within a couple of days and give that a go.

UPDATE: I think the new TPS has done the job :woot
After fitting it, i set it to 5k then twisted the throttle, and it went to 10k then back down to 5k on release, which i believe is the way things should happen.
With my old TPS yesterday when i twisted the throttle it went from 10k to 5k to 0..........not correct.
Also i could feel the difference straight away just riding out of my driveway, and after a short ride up the road the needle behaved and the bike generally felt much more at ease with itself.
mokin NOTE: My TPS hadn't failed completely but was obviously on it's way out.
I think it's important for people to know it did affect the general riding of the bike, especially at lower speeds and revs.
I was getting a jittery/hesitation feeling, almost like i was riding with the brakes on, but at higher speeds it wasn't so noticeable.
Also for what it's worth my original TPS had 'A2' stamped on the back but the replacement one has 'A1' on the back, but it works okay.
