Sorry, you're right, I believe it's just the gearbox that's based on the xr125 box.

I have a wee CBF 125 that I bough new in 2009. I have done around 15,000 miles on it. Mostly work and back, but I did do the coast of Scotland in 5 days (nearly 1000 miles). It nips through traffic and pulls away from the lights fast enough. A top box takes all my stuff. The MPG is amazing, I put fuel in it 2 days ago for the third time this year! I actually forget to check the gauge. It looks ok (did a few mod's) and its not tiny. Decent used ones are around your £1500 budget. And its the most popular bike in the UK, so parts will never be an issue.

I see most Aprilla's for sale say they have had engine rebiulds,,,this says alot !!!! he will have to learn.

isn't this a case of the heart ruling the head? - if I was a youngster I know I would be looking at the sporty 125s but they come at a horrendous price-from memory the Yamaha is over £4k OTR! The performance of the Aprilia comes dear-not only in terms of the expensive fully synthetic 2-stroke oil it demands but also it is a very high revving motor requiring frequent top-end rebuilds. Can remember thrashing everything I rode to within an inch of its life-they loved me at the parts dept! :eek But most of us don't buy bikes like a lot of people buy cars!

Hey slim,just to give you an idea rather than your nephew then check out this little cbr for £1300.
Look quite sporty to me & will be bulletproof but i can sympathise with him wanting what he likes the look of, on the flip side though for a while i thought i wanted something sportier looking than the fazer & felt like i was just reluctantly taking my old mans advice & short changing myself but foc am i glad i did as it is sporty without needing to look it.

Best piece of advice I had was: Take your budget, slash it, spend the rest on training, because you're far better off riding a cheap piece of junk properly than buying a shiny expensive bike and stacking it into a hedge.
With this in mind, I spent £300 on a 30 year old GS125 which I can sell for the same cash, and freed up more for better training. And it really has paid off.
