The GSXR1000 K7 in my avatar, gets used pretty much daily for my 13 mile commute, only if it's above 3 degrees though. If not I use the cage, would love an enduro but SWBO will only let me have one bike.

Always fancied an rf 900. Stats are pretty good and gutsy suzuki midrange make it sound like it would be a cracking bike. Don't particularly like the looks when standard, but always thought a scabby one would make good winter wheels.

Winter wheels is going up for sale.... Anyone interested in a rotax v twin 1000 aprilia falco? Bikes in Glasgow. UPDATE - SOLD.

Re: What is everyone using as there winter wheels? - nickodemon - 29-10-14

Thought i would regurgitate an old thread to see what everyone is using this winter for riding.. Last year i was using an Aprilia Falco, which was a fantastic bike, but this year i'm using a Triumph sprint st 1050 (comfiest bike i've ever owned). Fazer and aprilia v4 locked away for winter

Now got myself a 2001 Thundercat as my 365 bike. Great bit of kit. [Image: 41d12ba26fbb5058310e3f0bcdd1b79e.jpg]

bandit 1200, much better suited to wet gritty roads than the fazer...

Why do you think that?

And Suzukis rot away at the first sniff of salt.

Re: What is everyone using as there winter wheels? - stevierst - 30-10-14

My bandit suffered quite badly in the winter, ended up using nearly a whole tin of acf50 just to stop it dissolving.

It was a mark 1 600 though, yours looks quite a bit newer, and probably better built.

Re: What is everyone using as there winter wheels? - b1k3rdude - 30-10-14

The only things that have been effected thus far are the front of the forks (this will be the second winter so will get them painted next year) and engine side covers (keeping an eye out for some good s/h ones.

There were a few reasons for choosing the the b12 over a second fzs for winter -
  • if dropped parts are cheaper than the fazer, for the moment at least.
  • has less power and more torque, so better at filtering.
  • headlight is perfectly suited to being converted to HID due having none moving bulbs.
  • the seat for me at least, is more comfortable once riding goes beyond the hour mark.
  • Far less buzzing at motorcycle and urban speeds, at 40mph in top its a positive joy.
  • better gearbox and clutch (its hydraulic)
  • even more space under the seat.
  • superior electrics, due to better alternator and loom design.

Save your forks with a sheet of clear sticky back plastic such as fablon. Works brilliantly. Had mine covered for about 40k, and two winters. The fork paint was immaculate when I took the plastic off to sell the bike.

I just picked up my new car tonight. Starting to get too wet and cold on the bike for me to enjoy it, so liked the look of this:
