Modern chains are much better than they were when I first started riding back in the 70's.  I rarely have to adjust the chain on my FZS1000 and I use Wurth dry chain lube, which is much cleaner than traditional chain lube and keeps the bike nice and clean.  I used to tour on a '98 VFR800 and the chain on that was a pain.  It would always need adjusting at some point on a trip and the pinch bolt needed to be done up with a torque wrench.  What a pain!  Now I have an R1200RT I don't have to think about it.

Is it the law that you have to park your divvy 900 up in front of a wall or fence before you're allowed to take a piccie of it?  Smile

I too had a divvie , it was a great commuter  touring bike. The shaft drive never intruded, and although only 80 odd bhp it would accelerate OK to 120 . I even rode mine round donnington for a few laps !I did 14k mile sin less than a year it was just so nice to ride almost anywhere on....
Set against modern tackle like the GS its hopelessly outclassed in just about every area...but its still a worthy bike, if a tad expensive at the time in the mid 90s.A great bike to just pootle about on.
Chain drive is a nightmare for cleaning...I have tried both way s- dry lube ,and fling off lube...both have pros and cons. Theres nothing like shaft drive for touring ...its worth its weight in gold tbh. Smile

For 5 years i had a 1100 Virago custom shafty, brilliant, no problems, you did not know there was no chain, seemed the same.

Re: Shafties - fireblake - 20-01-13

That's what gets me, why people get so uptight about shaft drive.
Imagine what a great bike the Fazer would be with a para lever single sider?
