Re: Buyapowa heated gloves sale now live... - positron - 05-11-12 ..still waiting for mine! :*( Not surprised because I am routing it thru a delivery service via Newry as BuyaPowa won't deliver to the Republic of Ireland. Ah well...! Arfa, wouldn't it be easier to route it to the front, plugging unplugging near the crotch / left-thigh area? Re: Buyapowa heated gloves sale now live... - Lawrence - 05-11-12 Don't know about the pocket, my old Oxfords had that too. At the moment mine is just threaded in, need to find some way of securing it. I run the cable out the front, to the right of the zip. As you say it's a bit of a pain in the arse plugging in but definitely worth it :thumbup Re: Buyapowa heated gloves sale now live... - Arfa - 05-11-12 (05-11-12, 03:02 PM)positron link Wrote: Arfa, wouldn't it be easier to route it to the front, plugging unplugging near the crotch / left-thigh area? To route the cable across my front would be a pain when taking jacket off - unzip, then pull cable out of way/over head. I'd be threading the cable down my right arm everytime I put the jacket on. ![]() I was thinking by routing around my back, I can leave the cabling in place in my jacket, thus just stick arms in, zip up, plugs gloves in, then plug control box in. However, going round back, the cable from my right hand to control box near left thigh is only just long enough. The weight of the control box often tugs the right hand cable up my sleeve (when glove not plugged in) and the control box falls to the middle of my back. I guess if I tack it all in (safety pins etc) it should be fine. I was thinking routing the cable between the thermal lining and the jacket like you did, and say if the wires from both arms come up and meet near your neck / center of the shoulders etc, I was hoping the a single cable from there could get routed, say over the shoulder, down the front and right down to the bottom of the front zipper (all of this between the winter lining and jacket, not touching the skin), and the junior controller and the male plug can stick a few centimeters from the bottom of the front of the jacket. This was my plan - but I could be way off - hopefully I will know tomorrow...! PS: I think I saw a Gerbings review somewhere, but that might have been in conjunction with the heated vest, and in that case the setup was like I am (poorly) explaining above - I think. Re: Buyapowa heated gloves sale now live... - karlo - 05-11-12 Pocket is likely to be for a battery pack. Re: Buyapowa heated gloves sale now live... - karlo - 05-11-12 "These 12V gloves utilize Gerbing's Hybrid Heating System™. This system allows you the option of powering from your vehicle's 12V electrical system, or from Gerbing's 12 volt lithium-ion battery pack (not included, available separately from Gerbing Heated Clothing Ltd)." Re: Buyapowa heated gloves sale now live... - Lawrence - 05-11-12 If you want the battery pack on the left make sure you have the longer wire going to the right sleeve. Re: Buyapowa heated gloves sale now live... - positron - 06-11-12 Got the gloves, finally! ![]() Quick question. I don't see a receipt or invoice or proof of purchase anything of that sort in the pack. Any idea how we are supposed to claim warranty etc, if we had to? Is this norm with Parcel motel, or would they or their supplier (Wild And Wicked Ltd?) provide this by email etc? Re: Buyapowa heated gloves sale now live... - Lawrence - 10-01-13 My controller is dead :rolleyes Got to do a bit of testing but I'm pretty sure it's the wiring going into the controller that's at fault. If so I'll be contacting Gerbing about a replacement since they're only 2 months old. -Edit- When I say dead, it's not completely buggered. They do warm up but not fully and half way to work today the left one went off :'( Re: Buyapowa heated gloves sale now live... - positron - 10-01-13 Crap! That's not good after paying top quid. I have been using mine daily for last two months too and it's okay so far. Keep us posted how it goes with contacting Gerbings - I am not sure how it would work because I didn't get a 'proof of purchase' or anything from buyapowa. How did you pay them? If it was credit or debit card or PayPal etc that will give proof of purchase. Before you contact Gerbing you should get in touch with Buyapower because that's who your contract is with under the Sale of Goods Act. You can point out that the goods are not of satisfactory quality and also as they have failed within 6 months of purchase it's down to them under the Sale and Supply of Goods to Consumers Regulations 2002 to prove that the fault was not present at time of purchase (which they can't unless they can prove you've mis-used the controller) so you can choose repair, replacement or refund at your option ![]() Re: Buyapowa heated gloves sale now live... - Lawrence - 11-01-13 Thanks for the advice. I won't get a chance to check them out til the weekend so I'll contact them early next week. Re: Buyapowa heated gloves sale now live... - Lawrence - 13-01-13 Stuck a meter on the connectors on the ends of the controller and I'm getting ~12.5v on each with the bike idling. Plugged the gloves into a 13.5v mains adapter and the right one is warm-ish (should be hot! on full power) and the left one is cold :rolleyes -1C tomorrow morning too :'( Re: Buyapowa heated gloves sale now live... - Lawrence - 24-01-13 Posted Friday 18th, received a replacement set (same wiring but brand new gloves) Wednesday 23rd. Bit better than the 4-6 weeks they quote on the returns form ![]() Re: Buyapowa heated gloves sale now live... - fireblake - 24-01-13 Hopefully sorted now mate. At least you'll get plenty of times to try them before putting them away? Mickey Re: Buyapowa heated gloves sale now live... - Lawrence - 25-01-13 Working now, good thing too since it was freezing this morning :eek Strange that they both died at the same time but pleased with the service from Gerbings. Re: Buyapowa heated gloves sale now live... - Arfa - 25-01-13 Recently had some trouble with my controller too. One hand totally cut out. However it was a bit intermittent, as it started working again for half my ride home. Next day though, both hands stopped working... Reckon it was a loose connection, maybe even a short (hence stopping both working). Anyway, gone and brought a new controller, gloves working again now and have sent old one back. Just sods law, it plays up on the coldest day of the year... I contacted Buyapowa and they put Gerbing themselves intouch with me. But yeah, their return form says 4-6 weeks turn around! Hence why I just brought a new controller - it'll be spring in 6 weeks! Re: Buyapowa heated gloves sale now live... - Lawrence - 25-01-13 You getting a refund on the controller? Or getting it swapped out as a spare? It has a 3 year warranty... My controller was fine in the end, just both gloves died at the same time. I got the old controller/wiring back with new gloves and they were fine this morning. Re: Buyapowa heated gloves sale now live... - Arfa - 25-01-13 Going to get duff controller swapped. Then at least I've got two, in case one dies again. With weather like this, can't afford to be without the heated gloves at all. 3 year warranty is good. |
