Re: Speedo Drive Sensor - Dead Eye - 11-08-12

I vaguely mentioned it in the information from the garage I posted (when I quoted darrsi), but that's when I found out Wink Hence the hunt for part 14

Always willing to try the cheap and easy bits first and usually resort to asking for help etc once I get stuck Tongue In this case, having to fork out nearly £100 is getting stuck  Wink

Crikey, is it not just the part that goes into the wheel with the 2 lugs that is broken?

Have you, or anyone, had the wheel off recently? The lugs break easily if not lined up correctly.

Take the front wheel off and look at the inside of the sensor, it'll be obvious if the lugs are broken. If they're not, line them up properly and have a ride to test it again, you may have just jammed them in the wrong position and got away with breaking them?

Have a look at #15 on this:

http://www.yamahascooterspares.co.uk/spares/epc2.asp?modelID=9655&PageiD=41&m=YAMAHA+FZS600+FAZER++++1999+METER&uID=0

Right, a quick update. Took the diagram from the above web address to the garage and they confirmed that although Part 15 is missing one lug and ideally should be replaced, that it is in fact part 14 that is at fault and needs replacing. Although the guy suggested that part 14 usually comes with part 15 as a set (but you can buy part 15 separately if necessary)

Time to go hunting I guess...

Highlighted above ^^ Should have made it clearer though.

In any case, just called the guy from the eBay listing, the speed sensor has gone already  :'(

Re: Speedo Drive Sensor - richfzs - 11-08-12

I take it they did say they'd replaced with a good (part 15) unit then? You're not just taking their word that part 14 is the problem, without any evidence?

Re: Speedo Drive Sensor - Dead Eye - 11-08-12

Correct, they said they tested with a good part 15, I've had no reason not to trust them before.

Gumtree - Already contacted that guy, he said he has it but hasn't replied with a price yet but thanks for the links and research Smile I do appreciate it, thanks ^^

Edit: Success. Found someone selling the part for £25 delivered. Should hopefully receive it within the next week or so... at which point I won't be at home, typical huh

Re: Speedo Drive Sensor - Shaun86 - 27-04-18

Just as a contribution to this conversation, I had the same problem with the speedo stopping after hitting a bad pothole in a national speed limit area: so it was not a fun experience. I just bought the rotor from a local Yamaha dealer for £22 and it should be ok now as apparently the part was known for failing on this model and so the bakelite has been reinforced with a plastic collar for the lugs. I found this post very useful for being sure I got the right part;

Re: Speedo Drive Sensor - Armitage - 16-05-18

Thanks very much for the replies to this post. My 99 Fazer needed the rotor changed this week as last year it failed intermittently until I sprayed a ton of brake cleaner onto the sensor. Finally this week it gave up the ghost so perused the forums for an answer, found this post, bought the rotor, popped it in, jobs a good'un.
