Ok - I'll go for the good gear. The Clarke tap required so much force i knew it would break if I went any further,

Wise decision to stop. Too many before you have pressed on regardless and learned a whole lot more engineering techniques that they didn't intend to as a result.

Yep. Been there! Snapped off a few taps and easy-outs in my time. Always ends in tears!
