Re: A short message to all the English rugby fans - Pepy27 - 26-02-12

Seems to me the game turned on a dodgy knock on that Wales got away with......... :z

Quote:King Edward built the castles nearly 200 years after the Normans

and Long Shanks spoke which language ??  :rolleyes

Re: A short message to all the English rugby fans - pitternator - 27-02-12

well it was not the run away win some folk predicted. TBH england gave away a crucial penalty and missed kicks. From my angle the last minute try did look as if it had gone down...all in all IMO a very lucky win for wales rather than a victory well won.
For us the spectators...it was  a very enjoyable match.

Re: A short message to all the English rugby fans - BIG MAC - 27-02-12

Edward 1 (Not be confused with the earlier Edward the Confessor)  would have spoken Norman French - Middle English (Possibly) and almost certainly Latin, he would have been catholic hence the latin. Norman French was the Language of court long after Hastings and William the Conqueror's reign...(Brought about in no small part by the death of Edward the Confessor -and arguably a fruitloop - built pretty cathedrals though)
The castles were built as nothing other than a symbol of authority over the Principality and as a bolt hole just in case the Celts 'Did a Wallace' ...The true story of Wallace incidentally couldn't be further from the blue painted Australian if it tried. He was thought to be a 'second son' of gentry...actually a commoner and a beer thief! Impressive how he manipulated people to get to where he did and most assuredly a competent leader of men. Some would argue more lucky than skillful...but Edward was terrified of him...basically when it took 5 'quality soldiers' to one yokel to subdue an uprising and this while many of the Scottish nobles were fighting in Flanders (Although at that time it's debatable what side they would appear on from day to day as evidenced by the infamous treaty of Irvine)....shall I go on?...oh ok then...motorbikes

Re: A short message to all the English rugby fans - ZiggyCol - 27-02-12

An excellent tense game that could have gone either way - England did better than expected so can take something away from the game but losing will still hurt - I think they deserved a draw. Some fantastic try saving tackles on both sides and unfortunate that it was eventually won by a Lawes error - admittedly followed by a bit of individual Welsh brilliance.

One refereeing query - should the game not have gone back to the outstanding England penalty that had been awarded when the Strettle try was not allowed? The penalty had been given within the 80 mins and no advantage had accrued so surely the game should have gone back to it?

One will never know what might have happened then . . .

Re: A short message to all the English rugby fans - Phil - 27-02-12

Glad you said that because I also thought it at the time as well.
As for the knock on, the ref's mike picked up the ref saying he thought it was off his heeeeeed.
With around 10-15 to go, there was also the Welsh player knocking the ball into touch with his hand after a chip towards the corner.
You win some you lose some.

Re: A short message to all the English rugby fans - Bracechenko - 27-02-12

With regards to going back for the penalty, he was playing advantage and advantage would have over as England did get over the try line albeit without scoring so it was either a try or game over.

Watched the France game last night - Jings, if only we could play like that for the whole game! Still some silly mistakes though.
And yet another serious injury - I was sure it was a broken or very badly dislocated ankle when I saw the replay.

Re: A short message to all the English rugby fans - Hodge - 28-02-12

I would just lik eto highlight that England thrashed Wales 33-0 at Twickenham on Saturday. I notice the Welsh keep very quiet about that though. So what if it was the ladies it's still a 6 Nations thrashing which is more than the Welsh men can claim. Big Grin

I think everyone kept quiet about that as ladies rugby is shite. What's the point???....it'll never be as exciting as mainstream rugby as women don't have the spacial awareness needed to show real quality in a field game, aren't as strong or physical so it's just like an under-supported, dumbed down version of proper rugby.

Oh, and they can't park either!  :pokefun

I'll await the abuse from the laaaaaydies  :lurk
