Re: Today's "What Gets My Goat" - NO POLITICS! - mtread - 13-09-20 Archive stuff I think. Blair is a lot greyer now. Almost as grey as Major ![]() Re: Today's "What Gets My Goat" - NO POLITICS! - b1k3rdude - 14-09-20 So yet another misguided waste of public money, lowering speed limits in the name of pollution reduction (NO2) - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-54130862 Just waiting for the other shoe to drop, you know the one where its part of a money making ponzi scheme to fleece the motorist, aka ULEZ. Re: Today's "What Gets My Goat" - NO POLITICS! - darrsi - 14-09-20 (13-09-20, 07:06 PM)fazersharp link Wrote: Not political as they are Ex PM's and one labour and one conservative. But just seen them on the news walking shoulder to shoulder ( unless it was archive footage ) where's the social distancing. Maybe they're a couple now? :lol Re: Today's "What Gets My Goat" - NO POLITICS! - Grahamm - 14-09-20 (14-09-20, 09:43 AM)b1k3rdude link Wrote: So yet another misguided waste of public money, lowering speed limits in the name of pollution reduction (NO2) - If they don't have any cameras, people will ignore the limit. If they have gantry cameras, people will do 80 and then slam on their brakes just before each one. If they have average speed cameras for the whole motorway, people may well start looking for alternative routes instead eg A Roads, just moving the pollution elsewhere Also, for example, the M27 is currently being upgraded to a "Smart" (not really) motorway with long sections being 50mph with average speed cameras. Trying to keep to a constant 50mph or lower on a virtually empty road on my motorbike for mile after mile of straight road is actually very difficult and it's very easy for the concentration to drift. I've seen other vehicles sometimes start to veer across lanes and then suddenly swerve back as the driver's brain catches up with what's happening. Re: Today's "What Gets My Goat" - NO POLITICS! - fazersharp - 14-09-20 Ive been along that section of M6 and would love to go 60mph, its usually going 40. So yes the experiment will show that 60 reduces pollution on that section - cause people have used another route. Re: Today's "What Gets My Goat" - NO POLITICS! - mtread - 14-09-20 It's overnight when the lower limit becomes silly. No traffic and no pollution. Re: Today's "What Gets My Goat" - NO POLITICS! - mtread - 14-09-20 Quote: All these gimmicks are silly unless every country in the world does it's bit too. Don't think that's political :rolleyes Re: Today's "What Gets My Goat" - NO POLITICS! - VNA - 14-09-20 Quote:Moderators', can we have every post back to and including #3619 removed due to infringement of the no politics ruling please?. That includes one by each of yourselves @Grahamm & @b1k3rdude BTW.How do you figure that? It is a discussion on speed limits. But you have steered it onto a political discussion. You seem to be claiming, not for the first time, that the UK need do nothing about climate change. I think your argument is that we are too small, whilst other bigger countries, who emit more, but less in terms of emissions per person, need to do more to reduce their emissions. Obviously, we have been over this before, and it is clearly a political discussion, whereas speed limits and their effectiveness in reducing pollution/emissions need not be. I disagree strongly with the point you are, not for the first, making, but to respond to it would be to engage in a political discussion. So, if you would kindly delete your post number 3626, I will in turn delete my post 3627 pointing out your mistake. Re: Today's "What Gets My Goat" - NO POLITICS! - VNA - 14-09-20 Quote:We're racheting everything down whilst others are pumping it out like there's no tomorrow. Which there probably won't be the way they're carrying on Quote:Don't think that's political :rolleyesWell OK. :eek Look the UK in terms of CO2 emissions per person is one of the biggest polluters and contributors to global warming. But of course the biggest emitter of all, per person, is the USA. But whilst the USA is currently on fire due to rising temperatures, their president Donald Trump is in denial of climate change and refuses to take any action, in fact he is on course to continue to increase CO2 emissions in the USA. But the reality is that man made climate change is happening and we need to reduce our emissions. There already is demand for solutions, that demand will increase rapidly over the next decade. Many complain the cost of reducing emissions is too high and will damage our economies – whereas the clear reality is that not doing anything will cost many times more. Where there is demand there is opportunity. The smart thing to do is to develop the solutions and implement them, in turn becoming world leaders in emission reduction on the road to a carbon neutral economy. The big economic growth over the next two to three decades will be in the new energy and recycling markets. Those who have the solutions will sell them round the globe. Re: Today's "What Gets My Goat" - NO POLITICS! - YamFazFan - 14-09-20 . Re: Today's "What Gets My Goat" - NO POLITICS! - Dudeofrude - 14-09-20 Why doesn't one of you just start a political thread in 'the naughty corner'? It will on be visible to members, be out of sight of the those who really don't wish to see it, and providing it doesnt turn into a slagging match full of personal insults then can be relatively un moderated? Just an idea as some of you seem to really want to get your points across (nothing wrong with that) but seems to spill into every other thread that it can. Least with a dedicated out of the way thread you can all get it out of your system ?? As for this thread... what gets my Goat, when the fucking Council decide to dig up 10 different parts of a road at once instead of working on 1 at a time but still only have 3 blokes working on it ? Re: Today's "What Gets My Goat" - NO POLITICS! - VNA - 14-09-20 Quote:Failing that can you just delete posts #3630 & #3631 as they're the most blatantly political. You have to PM the moderator(s) if you are not happy. Quote:Don't think that's politicalBut in any case, moderator mtread has declared discussing climate change not political. Quote:Why doesn't one of you just start a political thread in 'the naughty corner'?The naughty corner even exist? It should be deleted. Quote:As for this thread... what gets my Goat, when the fucking Council decide to dig up 10 different parts of a road at once instead of working on 1 at a time but still only have 3 blokes working on it ?They have just resurfaced a couple of the streets I ride along to the centre of town. Done a nice job too. But that just means the gas/leccy/water company will be along to dig it up any day soon. Re: Today's "What Gets My Goat" - NO POLITICS! - YamFazFan - 14-09-20 . Re: Today's "What Gets My Goat" - NO POLITICS! - VNA - 14-09-20 Quote:Yeah I know. You don't need to tell me that. I've already had some of your previous posts deleted after reporting them to the admin in the past I’ve only ever contacted the mods once – I was probably a bit hasty (sorry Ogri) but I was upfront and honest about it. I expressed my displeasure (again perhaps in haste) and was 100% open and upfront about contacting the mods. I’m not even aware of any of my posts being deleted. I am aware that one post – that was not political – was altered on the back of an anonymous complaint. I in turn complained that my post has been edited – something that should not, in my view, ever happen. However I did caution the moderator, whom I have no doubt was trying to their level best, to be wary of potentially doing the bidding of others. Your statement above demonstrates why we cannot have political discussion here – some people just cannot behave – it is not a discussion for you YamFazFan – it is a game and a competition.
