My GF has severe asthma.

Today she was going to visit her sister and had to pop into Asda to pick up some stuff. She was wearing her mask *and* a Sunflower Lanyard meaning that she has a hidden disability.

There were many idiots not wearing masks and some, when she asked them to Social Distance from her were abusive, swore at her or even *deliberately* moved closer to her!

The utter selfishness and disrespect for others that some people have is beyond belief  :wall
:2guns

Re: Today's "What Gets My Goat" - NO POLITICS! - red98 - 30-08-20

as usual its the idiots who wont be told what to do or are too dim to understand the situation, that`s why we have a second wave...this virus is still alive and kicking and as we all know if it continues into the winter season we will be in trouble...just because of those idiots thinking they know best  :wall

GRAHAMM....not heard of the SUNFLOWER scheme before, thanks for bringing it to my / our attention...website down at the moment but i will look another day  :thumbup

i`ve learnt a lot during this virus about people, two classic examples above , the idiots who cant even be bothered to wear a mask and then there`s the people running the sunflower scheme to help others and no doubt most of them doing it in their spare time...

"selfishness and disrespect"....well put GRAHAMM...two words that dont cost us anything but are worth so much...

Its Asda for you- try Sainsbury's and you will get less of that or better still go to Waitrose or Marks and Spencer.

I know that there are some who can not wear a mask for whatever reason but I was in asda and a whole family of 3 were without masks - wonder if they all had the same condition.

Under 12s are exempt of course. Actually our local Asda is pretty good.
Went shopping in Chelmsford yesterday. A pretty well off town, but I was surprised how many illiterates there were. I'm presuming they were illiterate as so many were ignoring 'keep left' and 'exit only'.

There's yet another demo today by 2 protest groups in major cities, with a million plus expected, with at least one of the groups insisting that the virus is a hoax.

If the second wave does happen, there's your reason why!  :grumble

But then we live in a world of fake news and alternative facts.  Where extremists, lies and damned lies, are to be tolerated under the name of 'freedom of speech'.

Just look at the shite that has been spouted and tolerated on this forum over the years.  So why the surprise?

When I go in shops etc I wear my mask - I comply.  But frankly who does and who does not ain't my buisiness.

Forgot to mention they were all adults - the youngest being - my guess about 25.I have been noticing under 12s wearing masks and I get the impression that it is almost a fashion thing for them - or they are trying to look older, keep up with their older siblings.

In fairness though, it's been you that has spouted most of it.  :b

Yep, all the time. There are even images used in news articles seemingly oblivious to it.

These are the same Imbeciles I have have to firmly tell, "to walk the other way around"  with an outstreewtch arm,  instead of trying to squeeze past me. It has worked thus far as I am always wearing my crash helmet at the time  :biker

@Graham, wasnt aware of the Sunflower scheme specifically. Just to make her life easier should could wear a face sheild - https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=face+sheilds&ref=nb_sb_noss_2

Re: Today's "What Gets My Goat" - NO POLITICS! - fazersharp - 30-08-20

I too have never heard of the sunflower scheme ~ why aren't these things widly publisised.

Re: Today's "What Gets My Goat" - NO POLITICS! - Grahamm - 30-08-20

According to this article he Sunflower Lanyard scheme started at Gatwick Aiport in 2016 so staff could identify passengers with special needs that weren't physically obvious.

Various charities have been supporting this and they've got eg a Facebook page etc, however unless you're in touch with those organisations, there hasn't been much covering in national media to make everyone else aware of it Sad

Good biking roads being spoiled by arbitrarily sticking 40mph limits on them  :foc

Or worse yet when they 'resurface' them by scrapping off the tarmac and throwing loose stones everywhere. The amount of my favorite back roads I've had to avoid recently down to that.... absolutely boils my piss because its so dangerous to bikers ??

Re: Today's "What Gets My Goat" - NO POLITICS! - b1k3rdude - 31-08-20

My local parish council does that, never understood the logic behind that other than its a cheap albeit shit road surface. WIll ping my local counciler for an explanasion.

Oh gods, yes Sad

I didn't mention that, but there was a section of the B2150 around Hambledon that had had bloody tar and chip top dressing done recently.

What really pi$$es me off is that they just leave the chippings there to be pressed into the tar or swept to the side of the road by vehicle tyres, except, of course, they also end up in the middle of the lane and the carriageway, right where a bike often wants to be...

"its a cheap [...] road surface."

You've already answered your own question.
