I can sympathise with you Nick being of similar vintage. The flat slide Katana 1000 was a class machine, probably away ahead of its time and I luckily managed to get a ride on one, with the owners comment before letting me loose on it "Drop it and your life will be hell"  :lol Unfortunately with mortatge rates running at 10% interest and rising when they were new ruled me out of ever owning one, new or second hand. Sad
One of the reasons I do not attend shows now I used to come home pissed off from looking at things I would love but could not afford :'(

That's right, big Mikunis on there. It was the 11 that had CVs then, I can never remember without seeing one. This one, although a bit dusty - you could tell that a quick wash and buff would have it gleaming; immaculate paint on body and frame, black chrome exhausts not showing any obvious signs of wear and tear - even the front of the engine was spotless. A rare, rare sight today.

And it's not fair....it's not like it was AT a show - this is where I always take my bike for any work, cos the guy's just so enthusiastic and helpful, not to mention it always feels like you're getting mate's rates. I asked him if he ever got any FZR EXUPs in - he's not had one. Still thinking about grabbing one before the prices soar.

Today I got offered £1,000 p/x for it against a new MT-09.

Spent almost an hour riding the MT round Warwickshire. Really impressed with the power and torque, handling was great, didn't really feel any of this snatchiness MCN are on about (just bang it in B mode round town), the legroom was great too. But, there was just something wrong with how I felt on it. I think it was a lack of stability and smoothness compared to my old 600, but when I got back on it to go home I thought "Fuck me this is comfy!"


Just reinforces that I got my bike choice right first time.  Big Grin

How you getting along with that T/Cat Stevie? At least you'll still have that to play with, and you can always come back to a gen 2 later; still plenty about. To get my gen 1 off me, you'd have to prise it from my cold, dead fingers, but funny how I used to chop and change my only bike without a care in the world. Does that mean that to me, the gen 1 is the best bike I've ever ridden? How else do you explain how I'm not interested in changing it for anything else?

BUT..........next week, I will paying off the loan on mine. Then it's save like the clappers for bike no. 2. It won't be a new bike, whatever I end up going for, but hopefully new-er. Hopefully something lighter, more flickable with more modern equipment. KTMs appeal.... :evil

The T'cat is a great bike for me, it does exactly what I want it to do. It's a grafter bike purely for work. It kicks out about 60mpg, its nippy, nimble, fun, and (fingers crossed) reliable.

The gen II when I got it almost 2 years ago was a trade in for my tiger that I took because I'd have been a fool not to.
I've had some outstanding times on this bike , and holy Shit it's about as fast as my old R1! I've realised though that I don't need a 'do it all' bike anymore, and want something more focussed for Sunday blasting but upright and naked. Hence speed triple or superduke. (can't afford an MT-09).
If I realise I've screwed up later on, I can always get another. After all, they are a fantastic machine.

got it back from the garage with a fresh MOT and new pads and hoses...


then got my top box on it all ready for it's first trip away tomorrow...

Took mine for its MOT , it was all good , put the baffle in and wow is it quiet so its now back out till next year , tomorrow I am heading to mid Wales and the coast  :lol

Went a wee 200 mile blast to Dumfries then along the A75 to Stranraer and back up the A77 to Kilmarnock, cracking day and my head is a little bit sunburnt Big Grin

New front tyre and loosen off the steering head bearings.

Fixed my tank slap wobble at 43mph yay!  Smile

Cleaned it, then applied a new coating/dressing I got in to try to the  tyrewalls, and also to the mirrors. Seems to have brought the mirrors back to black a bit, which is Ideal Big Grin

Not today, but recently, I changed the handlebars. The Renthals are no more. LSL is king!
