Because the fuel gauge is rubbish and i'll be able to get it to give me a far more accurate range etc.  Useful, as I will be off to Europe next month and want to know how far I really have before I run out, rather than what the poxy gauge tells me.

A preliminary run with it also shows consumption is similar at 70mph, at 80mph and at 90mph - presumable because the engine is coming on cam and getting much better volumetric efficiency as it develops more torque as revs increase and this cancels out the squaring of drag.

A bloody good technical exercise too, cheap at £55, and I can always remove it with out to much fuss (superseal plugs).

Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - noggythenog - 02-07-14

Managed to find the code on my nitron shock....on the spring......at the front out of sight and barely readable/slightly worn off......got the head torch through a tiny gap in the frame and got the code and good old Nitron were able to advise that it is indeed the correct spring for a man of my calibre Wink .

Got some penetrating fluid on the rebound adjustor......tomorrow ill take the right hand foot peg assembly off so i can get a proper grip on the dial.

Stripped more of the 600 down....getting as much as i can outta the way before i attempt getting the engine out.

Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - noggythenog - 06-07-14

Looks like im the only one doing stuff to fazers.......except riding them :rolleyes

Well...i got the engine out......gave it a wipe over with some oil........blocked all the holes........greased over the exhaust studs to stop any rust......copper greased the exposed metal.

Then i wrapped it up.......cleaned up the garden.

Washed the thou......a productive fazer day really. 8)

Well not per say....i did hear a couple sheep in distress though......ya bahhhhhhhhstards........oh i heard so many bikes passing my street today, i was well jealous.....gutted i still dont have a c spanner.....but if i had one then i woulda been out and then i wouldnt have done foc all stripping of the 600 so it aint all bad i suppose.

After a clean the thou looks the mutts nuts so im just hoping i can get it set up right.....gonna jack up the front and put the yokes back to standard and im gobna phone nitron tomorrow and find out why i didnt get my spanner......they have a new design of adjustor just coming in so perhaps thats why.

Heres mine http://foc-u.co.uk/index.php/topic,13853.msg157040.html#msg157040
You can cut the guard flush with the plate and the reflector can be attached through the guard just under the plate with a short flat bracket, get a reflector like this  http://www.petrolscooter.co.uk/rear-bolt-on-reflector-for-kazuma-50cc-100cc-110cc-quad-bikes-atv-s.html

My baby of the Fazer family has just gone to its new home and to a fellow foccer.  Smile

Ken (cager in training) arrived with his mechanic to check it over and he can now change his profile from "I don't own a bike" to "1998 Fazer 400".  His eagle eyed mechanic noticed some play in the Swinging arm bearings and a tiny bit of notchiness in the steering head bearings which I had not noticed, much to my surprise. I never felt it when I rode it, but then I had not ridden it more than 10miles since my son brought it came back from the UK. His mechanic took it for a spin and also did not notice it when riding it. His comment was the same as mine when I first rode the 400, "it is a really nice little bike to ride"

It has been ultra reliable in the 31000Km my son put on it while I had it. Was really sad to see it go to be honest.  :'(
I could not really justify keeping it, but it is I believe gone to a good home and will be taken care of.

I hope you got what you wanted for it unfazed and that you will put those funds to good use on more bike stuff.

I always liked the fz400....if they had a character then yes it would be likeable....& i never even rode one.....when i was a 16 year old and ogling all the bike porn...mainly my dads back street heroes magazines  :b but often Bike etc there was quite allot of the bandit and fazer 400's for sale but there cant be many left now....ill do a check later.

Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - noggythenog - 08-07-14

Phoned Nitron to ask why over a week later i dont have my c spanner.....they are a good bunch and didnt have my phone number......they are just introducing a new tool which is a needle tool rather than a c spanner so at least ill get one of the latest tools which should hopefully be better.

I also managed to free off the rebound adjustor.....with the help of some more penetrating fluid (best aldi buy ever) annnnnnnndddddd......Mole grips :eek .........it worked though.

So i got hold of the Nitron baseline settings...the settings that they think suit the weight of rider and spring etc.....so maybe not perfect but ive read allot about folk never needing to sway from Nitron baseline......i already know I've got the correct weight spring.....there baseline is 8 clicks compression and 12 clicks rebound.

Ok so lets compare that to the apparently "set up" settings it has been on when i got it.........0 clicks compression......& what now after freeing up transpires to be 0 clicks rebound :rolleyes

I've now set them both to the Nitron baseline settings and maybe in another week i can set the preload properly.

Next on the agenda is raising my yokes back up as i clearly need more clearance......i just noticed i've slightly scuffed the left side of my belly pan like the right and i don't even like left handers......& before you start slimwilly no I'm not bullshitting and i aint no Rossi :b but it is what it is.....most likely less clearance....heavy lump rider and incorrect suspension set up.

Ha ha...i knew youd be on here Wink

Thats the yokes back up to standard....with the added benefit of not so much slanting downwards then maybe it will help me stay on the seat more instead of sliding forward.

Anyway im looking forward to actually doing some welsh roads on it soon.

Took it in to replace the front tyre - lovely to have it rolling nicely into corners again instead of dropping off the edge! (it was a winter tyre, so didn't wear too evenly). And booked it in for a service next week.
Every time I go to that place, he has something in that catches my eye, this time an immaculate Katana 1000 - forgot the camera though. And he had an FZ750 up on the bench - always bikes I think of as my era. Says he might have another Kat thou in for sale soon too - oh, to have unlimited funds!
