Haha - never thought of it that way. But then again, when I'm driving, (or riding) I generally stay alert enough to recognise that the vehicle I'm driving (or riding) is still fit for purpose. I never understand how people can run out of fuel for instance!

Maybe there should be a financial penalty or even points on your license for running out of fuel on a motorway, irrespective of it being a smart motorway.

I believe this is the case in Germany (please correct me if I'm wrong), but I'm also of the opinion that some people shouldn't be allowed behind the wheel, let alone on any motorway, smart or not :lol

Yep fazerscotty, you are quite correct regarding German Autobahns. If you're a member of ADAC, which is an AA equivalent, they will bring fuel out to you, however if the cops get to you first the fine ranges between 30 and 105 euros, depending on the length of time you've been there and also the level of danger you have caused. I suppose all countries have their fair share of iffy drivers, and riders come to that.
