Cleaned chain and adjusted it a notch or two, was a little too slack. Over tightened the bugger and had to loosen it up a little. Typical.

Finally got around to refilling the dry scott oiler and priming it, repositioning it at the same time. Hopefully good to go on that front.

And Noggy visits on his first ride of the year.........................a run down council estate!  :lol  Way to go Nog, I can see me and Bill are gonna have to show you around your own patch one of these days  :rolleyes

Glad you got out at last though. Probably headed your way tomorrow, at least they're saying there'll be some sunshine. What happened to the promised week of great weather? I reckon the jetstream's gone so far north, it's come back up south of us again!

Ha ha Nick, yes it wasnt my best ride but still riding.

Tomorrow should be nice, bit of fog in the morning then rather pleasant, i think i'll throw up a last minute request on the meets & greets section see if i can find any welsh foccers at a loose end...sadly the weekend is off bounds coz i gotta do stuff with the missus but hey it could be snow storms & tsunamis by then so im gonna get out every day this week & have fun.

Is anyone else coming through or just yourself, throw me a line if you fancy company but if you are just in a single handed exploring frame of mind then please dont feel obliged as there shall be more meets im sure.

Company always welcome Noggy. Got a route planned, will be just short of 400 miles all told for me. A40 inbound, brief stop at Oasis, Abergavenny, then on to West End, Llandovery to take on cargo, yum, yum!  :lol
Then thinking Llandrindod, Aber, Machynlleth, Newtown, Crossgates. Then a little mountain road I did on my last camping trip, then Builth Wells, back to Oasis and home. Google says 382 miles  Smile
You up for it boy?!  :b

Have checked chain adjustment and lubed; checked tyre pressures &c, all good to go for an early start!

I'm going to try to be at Llandovery around 9:30, 10 at latest if I can. I'll call you when en route - how long does it take you to get to there?

Ok, let's keep further discussion to your new thread in events.

Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - Dead Eye - 12-03-14

Did a quick clean of the chain and thoroughly coat it with lube... within an hour it just doesn't look like the chain is lubed at all and there's no puddle on the floor... gonna switch the stuff I use I think

I did try to find my old scottoiler from my 600 - I know I kept it somewhere but I'll be damned if I can find the bloody thing :\

Took delivery of the final piece to the puzzle, some r1 yokes.  Forks, springs, yokes, must be time to fit them to the bike Smile

Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - Dead Eye - 12-03-14

Yay, found my old vSystem Scottoiler so spent an hour measuring it up for the thou - I wasn't particularly careful when I quite literally ripped it out of the 600 over 6 months ago - poor install by the previous owner and I swear it oiled the inside of the bike more than the chain :\

So, just waiting a few little spares from the Scottoiler site and I should be able to get it fitted Smile Hopefully this will keep on top of the chain lube situation as I'm just not confident that the dry lubes are doing their jobs properly - this is mostly my fault as its not really the weather they should be used in...

what tail pack do you have on that nick?

Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - Lez72 - 12-03-14

Took the boxeye out for a little 170 mile bimble around Derbyshire and Staffordshire. I observed 4 things,

1) It was foccing cold, even when the fog had cleared.

2) The state of the roads after our extremely wet winter is shocking.

3) Farmers love leaving shit all over the decent bends.

4) I need a larger capacity bike for my daily runner. The boxeye feels far too frantic and revvy and does not promote a relaxing ride. I gave up on sportsbikes a few years back as they were only good at 2 things 1) Looking Awesome and 2) Going Fast. I then bought a Gen 1 Fazer and thought it was the answer. I still think that but I began to clean and polish, clean and polish and then clean and polish it some more whilst adding a few subtle modifications. I've cleaned it to the point of not wanting to use it other than in perfect conditions which invariably we seldom get. I therefore bought the boxeye as I wanted something to actually use that wasn't going to cost me the earth to buy and maintain and also it would allow me to keep the Gen 1 in mint condition. It fits that bill perfectly and I use it as often as work commitments allow. However, despite it being more comfortable (for me) than a sportsbike I find its engine has a very sporty nature. Most rides have therefore become very similar to those I used to have on my sportsbikes. Frantic, buzzy and draining.

Decisions, decisions  :\

Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - noggythenog - 13-03-14

Went out for petrol & ended up doing 55 miles. Big Grin

After yesterdays 300 miler i was just bimbling about today, down the Haven there werent any ships moving so made do with a little tug & a lineboat & a yacht.

Then went up the Presseli hills where i got a stunning view across to the coastline at Fishguard with fog lying within the valley & a rocky Bluestone crag sticking out....poor couple sitting on deck chairs by their campervan had heard me coming for miles so i apologised for the noise he he!.

Also faffed with suspension settings...felt a little soft yesterday so i adjusted to 1 stop from full on the rear & 3 rings on the front.....a bit stiff...have come down 1 on the back & 4 rings now showing.

Re: what did you do with your fazer today ? - esetest - 13-03-14

This afternoon took the front wheel off , and took it to Morpheus motorcycles( top tip guys ) , it was a piece of glass embedded in the tyre , also the tyre valve was badly corroded which was causing the slow puncture  so they replaced the valve as well . Got home refitted wheel in the fading light  .

Sorry kitcrazy, was this aimed at me? If so, it's actually an Oxford tank bag. I put it on the back for day rides, makes it easier to fuel up. It sits on a bike blanket (one of those sticky, webby things) to protect the tail piece paint, and it is held in place with a cargo net. Of course you can get tail packs very similar, but I bought it to use in it's proper place for when I've got the camping gear loaded on the back too.
