boxeye hid.. anyone got any pics? - Paulfzs - 09-10-15

so ive fitted hid to the left side orn my boxeye...

I keep seeing people saying "turn night to day" but mines more.. turn night to dusk...

55w led + ballast..

Anyone here fitted hid to the left side got any pictures of how it looks at night on a road and not a wall at 5 yards.

im trying to work out if its my kit thats weak or just crappy due to the bad reflectors.

Hid bulb only not hid projector.

Paul, here's mine mate.
I'll need to get nighttime ones but it is bright and certainly makes a difference Smile

Re: boxeye hid.. anyone got any pics? - BBROWN1664 - 09-10-15

I cant find the pictures from when I did mine but I did both sides and had done the dual light mod so I had 2x HID on for dipped beam.

You could put the sun in there and it will make little difference without doing something about the reflectors!

Projectors work because they're not using the reflectors to distribute the light.

Re: boxeye hid.. anyone got any pics? - Paulfzs - 09-10-15

mine looks similar sinto but im not sure if its actually any brighter than an osram nightbreaker that i had in before.

which way did you put your bulb?

the little rod pointing up or down?

I had a nightbreaker in before Paul, and my HID is way brighter and sharper than that was.
Can't remember what way the bulb went in as it's actually a H7 that I had lying around as I just wanted to try and see what it'd look like before I went on with my future mod of HID's on both sides :b

Re: boxeye hid.. anyone got any pics? - Paulfzs - 09-10-15

It's been dark here for ages Sad
But had a couple of beers Smile
I'll go down to garage and take a couple of pics of it going across street, not ideal but you'll get an idea.
Give me 5mins or so mate Smile

Edit...here you go.
1st is no lights,
2nd is dipped beam
3rd is full beam

And yes, you may have to tilt your head :lol

Re: boxeye hid.. anyone got any pics? - Paulfzs - 09-10-15

Yeah thats better than mine :S

quite a bit better!
full beam isnt but i have spotlights Big Grin

ill go out soon and grab a pic of mine

with the dip beam on your pic.. where the paving slabs end thats about 1/2 as bright as mine is and thats all i have, nothing further along :S

i just seem to have a  dull box infront of me that lights up maybe 5 feet ahead of where it starts.

Re: boxeye hid.. anyone got any pics? - sinto607276 - 09-10-15

Yes Paul, just the nearside bulb, yes, the full beam is crap but I'm just waiting on a set of lamps coming then I'm going to experiment with dual hi/lo H4 HID bulbs Smile
Don't really need full beam when I've got one good HID :b

Re: boxeye hid.. anyone got any pics? - sinto607276 - 09-10-15

That's only about a car length, I adjusted my lights to get more distance, maybe you just have to adjust the screws to get more length?
I've sat behind cop cars and even travelling towards me and never had them pull me over so they must be ok Smile

Re: boxeye hid.. anyone got any pics? - Paulfzs - 09-10-15

showoff Big Grin

i need to figure out whats wrong with mine.

definitely  not as bright as yours and the range is pathetic.

ill have a go with the screws.. although last time i did they didn't do much

what ballast do you use? and whats the wattage of bulb and ballast

Re: boxeye hid.. anyone got any pics? - sinto607276 - 09-10-15

Where's your pics?
Let me see your ballast and wiring too when you get a chance, I've never had any hassle with installing HID's into any of my bikes (about 4) and my cars (3) and also my mates bike's, so could just be a crap set up you have tbh

Re: boxeye hid.. anyone got any pics? - sinto607276 - 09-10-15

I'll search the garage tomorrow and find the ballast and bulb and take a pic of it and post it here, I know it's slimline but not sure of wattage at the moment and i've only ever used 6000k bulbs as anything else isn't as sharp,  too low is crap, too high is illegal so I've always stuck with 6000k

It's not just the wattage etc of the bulb, it's the output of the ballast so it can light the bulb up properly, the pictures I took weren't as good as they get better the longer they're on, the bulb wasn't even warmed up when I took that as I just turned on ignition, turned on lights and took the pics.

Re: boxeye hid.. anyone got any pics? - Paulfzs - 09-10-15

ive tried different types...

The big waterproof 35w ballast + 35w bulb and had no problems with flicker just weak power.

put on a 55w ballast and bulb and it has a flicker the same as this: ! No longer available
i bought a "proper" harness from ebay as i showed before with the relay connected direct to the battery and it still flickered, i bought a 4700kv capacitor from maplins and wired it into the harness and still flickers.

tried different 55w bulbs but no difference. the ballast eventually died due to coming unstuck from my fairing and getting bashed around (earplugs i didnt hear it) so i got a 3rd 55w slim ballast and still flickering.

current ballast
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/331564915636?_trksid=p2057872.m2748.l2649&var=540718233761&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

ordered new 55w bulbs, they came with a ballast plug that connects direct to the h1 plug of the headlight and still flickers.

I connected a hid bulb + ballast to a 12v 22ah mobility scooter battery and it fired up fine got super bright and didn't flicker...

My battery is 10ah so it should be plenty as they only really take 8-9ah at start up then drop.

Re: boxeye hid.. anyone got any pics? - sinto607276 - 09-10-15

Mmmm not sure what's happening atm, but flickering is generally down to poor connections/poor ballast as it's struggling to transfer the power through to the bulb

ill check all connections but no idea, its fine untill it warms up which is odd.

turning the fan on makes no difference to it

Re: boxeye hid.. anyone got any pics? - sinto607276 - 09-10-15

So you really should be running 55w ballast and bulbs and not have them connected to the battery in anyway, the only HID harness that has to be connected to the battery direct is a dual element HID as it needs constant power when lights are on to make it work as a dual element.

What was the k's of the bulbs you use(d) as I said earlier, I only use 6000k as these seem to be the most stable that I've found and apart from that, they are a far crisper light as far as I'm concerned Smile

Why would turning on the fan make a difference?

Re: boxeye hid.. anyone got any pics? - Paulfzs - 09-10-15

ive tried 4000k 5000k and 6000k, got 6000k in at the moment.

when it flickers/wobbles it seems to alternate between a light blue and a white so it seems like its not getting a stable enough current to keep it the white it should be.

Re: boxeye hid.. anyone got any pics? - sinto607276 - 09-10-15

Is the ballast capable of doing 6000k? Some are cheap crap and would light up the original fazer bulbs nevermind an HID bulb :b

Another thought....is the bulb secure and the connections good?
Check inside every connection and make sure they are sound, sometimes one of them loose can cause you problems but as you put one plug into the other you automatically think it's sound but it could be not making a good enough connection.
