fix for this? - MC680x0 - 23-10-14
The l/h leveling adjuster has cracked all around the screw. so the headlight is rocking back and forth freely. anyone had this and found a fix other than buying a entire new headlight assembly. I'd take a pic but my phone camera aint working - no other camera - but suffice to say there is a 360 degree hole now around the screw. Thinking of putting a black rubber washer on the outside then push the adjuster screw through into the inner assembly, so if I unscrew all the way does the adjuster come out? I didn't want to try in case it's a bugger to get back in?

It can be welded fairly easily with a soldering iron.

thanks for the insight. sounds simple but how? I do not own a soldering iron so what type would I need and what is the procedure? would it not just melt a thick gouge around the screw?

Super glue and bicarbonate of soda. Its not pretty but it works.

If you glue 2 surfaces together, then go over the join with a bead of super glue, then sprinkle with Bicarbonate of soda, then glue, then again with bicarbonate of soda etc. Do this 5 or 6 times and the bicarbonate of soda forms a very hard, plastic like crust, much stronger than just super glue on its own.

Not the best quality but it kinda gives you the idea. Just remember to use bicarbonate of soda ( which the Yanks call baking soda ) and not baking powder.

q bond is the business. you fill the gap with the filler plastic powder and then add the glue. easy! works great at fixing cracks, you just open out the crack, build it up with the powder and glue, then sand it flat. it looks like original plastic after you've sanded it. you can even create a new piece of plastic with it if something has snapped off like a mounting tab or you could fill a hole and tap it if you've stripped plastic threads. it's excellent stuff!

Typo on this fukin stupid phone
Anyway, not sorted. Came down this morning gently adjusted the leveler and the home just opened up. Fukin really pissing me off. Superglue n bicarb didn't work either. Grrrr.
This qbond stuff...how does one patch a hole?

The q bond stuff will rebuild broken plastic. I can't tell you for sure if it'll work without seeing the damage but there's videos on youtube showing examples of what can be done with it

Sussed a way. I shall use some auto gauze sheet,as used in body filler, craft a 3x3 cm square patch and apply Superglue and bicarb, using tweezers quickly apply over the hole pressing around the edges and leave to set. Then sand off,paint and drill the hole. Sounds like this will work

Hi,
When you use the soldering iron to plastic weld you need to use cut pieces of metal from a paper clip. they are pushed into both sides across the crack to act like a stitch it reinforces the join as well you can youtube it to see how it's done

Best plastic welding I've seen is Delboys Garage on YouTube.
He uses paper clips as said above, but uses cable tie is the 'solder' to fill and glue the gap.
Works a treat and remains flexible which a lot of other fixes like superglue/bicarbonate doesn't.
