Underneath exaust - slimwilly - 11-05-14

I fancy making and underneath exaust, not a new idea i know, but i rekon i can get enough box and heatproofing under there as i have no center stand, then a small exit pipe or maybe a line of two or 3 or 4  chrome mini exit pipes in a line.

not as big a can as this , maybe just exit pipes, if not then a moto gp style pipe like this

Re: Underneath exaust - red98 - 11-05-14

mmmmmmmm.....so you planning on putting a collector/silencer where the center stand was and then a tube up under the seat splitting into four.....sounds good but iam not too sure if theres enough room by the shock or would you go up the outside ? not as nice looking......interesting project  Smile .......are you able to bend your own tube ?... are you peicing it together ?....or using pre formed bends ?......lots of questions i know  :o ..was thinking of making my own exhaust for the project 600.....

Re: Underneath exaust - slimwilly - 11-05-14

Ideally i would like no exit pipe,,the whole exaust underneath, just the exit pipe showing,,and no not up under seat,

I do have a pipe bender , bends up to 1 1/4" steel..not that i am planning on using it for this.

I'm doing that for Project Fazer's (the proper one!  Wink ) exhaust - twin underseat R1 pipes.

I was planning on preformed bends, myself. We'll see when I get to that stage.c

Re: Underneath exaust - Exupnut - 11-05-14

I always thought u were a bender

Pity. Would have liked to have seen this in my lifetime  :lol

Smartarse.  :lol

I'm in touch with the engineering shop for the swingarm, when that's done, it's tail fairing followed by pipes. Getting there!

Nice reply exupnut..........soon down to your level  :lol

Hardest part will be threading the pipe between shock, linkage and frame.......wonder if smaller diameter pipe will work or will that affect performance....last thing you want with a blue bike  :lol

Two things: Did you see that really nice cafe racer 600 with the spoked wheels? He'd run his exhaust around the outside of the swingarm - looked a bit bizarre, but seemed to do the job!

I was considering using oval shaped pipe for that section (before I went SSSA - makes life easier there), as that preserves the all-important area, whilst giving you reduced impact on the width fore and aft of the pipe.

Re: Underneath exaust - red98 - 11-05-14

Yep...saw that one looked great....but.....exhaust did'nt look right on the outside, got to be hidden, like ths idea of oval, with the same internal area so no change in performance, harder to bend if diy....how about two smaller round ones......

Re: Underneath exaust - slimwilly - 11-05-14

My problem will be around the dog bones part of suspension, heat insulation, tyre clearance ,insulation, there is room up both sides of dog bones and underneath with a box section, with gas flowing channels inside box leading to exit, baffle system inside.

Re: Underneath exaust - Tmation - 11-05-14

Turn the swing arm into the silencer, its been done a few times in the past and looks well cool.

Pics?

Also, have you considered what the Panigale and the Kawa ER-6 do for their exhausts? If yours is purely underneath, not rising up between the wheel & the bike, that may be an easier mod.

Re: Underneath exaust - devilsyam - 12-06-14

Slim as I see it for fz1
R1 headers from 04-06 de cat link pipe (slimer that stock) r1 swinging arm caliper and hanger
I'd go Dan moto rear pipes as slim and cheap
Fit this then see were it all touches and mod accordingly
This would b my route

Re: Underneath exaust - slimwilly - 12-06-14

Yes , it would be good to do that but first i want to get in the SHED,, and see what this genius can knock up :lol :lol :lol

haha,, fucking stainless steel cooking trays,,either be good for a meetup bbq or cook an egg on route :lol

I now have to source some thin stainless welding rods and try welding the stuff, if i can make a can of upper and down side then they can be partable to try different gas routes and different sound dampening methods.

I could go into catering,,about eight of the huge stainless pans :lol
