R1 front end - nickodemon - 14-12-13 Hi, Who knows the exact model of r1 front end that fits the fzs 1000? What is required? Does it go straight on or is there new bearings etc.. required. Regarding the rear are nitron shocks the way to go? I have the r6 shock mod, which is good, but may want to go to the next level. Thanks, Nick. Re: R1 front end - devilsyam - 14-12-13 See my web site Nick info there and for sale section Re: R1 front end - Falcon 269 - 14-12-13 Also see this, Nick: http://fazer1000.yuku.com/topic/3408/R1-Fork-Conversion-Guide Any year R1 forks can be made to fit. For that matter, I have seen Suzuki GSX-R forks used. None of the options are straight swap, though ... all require mods to the yokes and the steering stem. A recent thread on the FZ1OA forum shows a different approach to the steering stem issue. http://www.yamahafz1oa.com/forum/showthread.php?t=130857&highlight=r1+forks Early model R1s shared the same front wheel and brakes as the Fazer, which makes for a cheaper conversion. Later model R1 forks have superior internals (08 particularly good) and radial brake calipers but you need the front wheel, calipers etc which really bumps up the cost. Luke favours fork extensions to maintain the original front end height. I have mine fitted without which drops the front about 3/4" and speeds the steering considerably. I haven't had any stability or ground clearance issues but it might not suit everyone, particularly larger/heavier riders. ![]() Re: R1 front end - devilsyam - 14-12-13 Slight update you can fit later r1 forks 04 on and use you fazer wheels all you need is the r6 discs Re: R1 front end - nickodemon - 14-12-13 Brilliant informative posts from both you guys ![]() Re: R1 front end - sirgalahad3 - 14-12-13 Yup. I have 4xv forks, yokes, mudguard and a Justy spacer and roll pin. All you need I think? Will not be fitting to mine, changed my mind. Re: R1 front end - devilsyam - 14-12-13 See for sale I have gen2 yikes with all the machining already doneand set modern 09 fz1 forksif you want the lot we can cut a deal Re: R1 front end - sadlonelygit - 14-12-13 Don't forget that you will have to change the springs as the R1 is a lot lighter, unless you are 8st Re: R1 front end - bristol banger - 15-12-13 (14-12-13, 06:54 PM)sadlonelygit link Wrote:Don't forget that you will have to change the springs as the R1 is a lot lighter, unless you are 8st I've got 03 r1 forks on mine, even two up I've had no issues with spring rates or bottoming out. Re: R1 front end - Falcon 269 - 15-12-13 I've got K-tech modded '03 forks in mine, too. These forks were modded for use on an R1 by the previous owner (ebay purchase, so no details unfortunately) so while the springs might be a bit stiffer - and most likely linear not progressive - I can also say that they've been just fine on the Fazer. My inclination would be to buy, fit and try. If you discover that they're undersprung, it's no big deal to drop the forks out and have new springs installed later on. ![]() Re: R1 front end - sadlonelygit - 15-12-13 99-01 0.76 kg/mm 02-03 0.813 kg/mm 04-05 0.93 kg/mm i'm using 1.0, but i am a big fat bastard Re: R1 front end - nickodemon - 17-12-13 Thanks luke for the offer of fz1 forks, but i want r1 forks. Just boughta nice lsl top yoke tha requires no mods. Now i need 2003/2004 bottom yoke, r1 forks/ calipers and r6 discs Re: R1 front end - nickodemon - 17-12-13 Might splash outon 07-08 r1 forks Re: R1 front end - nickodemon - 24-12-13 I have seen a few sets of 2003 (5pw model) forks. Why are some gold and some black? Re: R1 front end - Falcon 269 - 24-12-13 Why is an elephant large, grey and wrinkled ...? Because if it were small, white and round, it would be an aspirin. :lol Different colour schemes on the bikes, so different fork colour, mate, that's all. ![]() Feliz Navidad! Re: R1 front end - nickodemon - 24-12-13 :lol I noticed that american ones seemed to be black and was concerned there was a difference. I'm goong to get 02-03 bottom yoke to match the lsl top yoke to guarantee the offset is the same, then i will decide on the year of forks to use. Re: R1 front end - tommyteeman - 24-12-13 ive had 98, 03 and 08 forks on mine, whish id just started with the 08 setup, if your going to make the front end better might as well have a set of sixpots on there too, transforms the braking. Got to have an r1 front wheel/brakes/spindle but its worth the extra i reckon. ![]() Re: R1 front end - nickodemon - 24-12-13 Do the 08 forks fit 03 yolks? Re: R1 front end - slimwilly - 24-12-13 Tommy, that front end is good!!! makes the bike very modern.. Does any one put R6 front end on?,,,if it is not a stupid thought ![]() Re: R1 front end - tommyteeman - 24-12-13 (24-12-13, 05:03 PM)nickodemon link Wrote:Do the 08 forks fit 03 yolks?yes, mine has 03 bottom yolk and fz1 top yolk. |
