Fazer 600 oil ,,, stuck - jonnel101 - 15-02-13

Hi im changing the oil on my fazer 600 99 model and cant find any min or max marks on the sight glass .

It just looks likes a normal sight glass size but it is all black with a tiny hole towards the top

is this normal

any ideas where to fill to

thanks in advance

It can be tricky to spot the oil level, a good source of light helps.
You might need to take the clutch cover off and clean the inside of the glass, old mucky oil does tend to stain it.

the max and min marks are on the engine casing around the edge of the glass not on the glass  Big Grin

I tend to just use the sight glass itself as the min / max mark :| Can't say I've ever noticed the min / max marks on the casing before...

If the oil isn't visible, it's too low. If the oil fills the glass there's too much.

Should be like this

Re: Fazer 600 oil ,,, stuck - darrsi - 15-02-13

Strip the engine down from the left side, and pull all metal type things out of the way until you've bored all the way through to the oil window.
Then clean the inside with a cotton bud........ Wink

Why Mr Darrssi, our best intelligence from the village would have it that you are, sir, guilty of a simple omission, the sight glass would most surely  need to be cleaned most dlligently from the outside as well as from the inside to be properly efficatous.

Aha

But with a mere treatment of activ8 friction reducer it does not matter where the oil level is

I check mine on the centre stand with a torch as the foccing level glass is so awkward to see on your own without some one holding the bike up for you and I don't fancy a 600 landing on my head on the drive

Are you saying you've attempted to check the oil window on your own without the bike being on the stand before?
